Are his ranged attacks considered projectiles(Not the life leeching move)? A mesmer’s feedback bubble can reflect them, a gurdian’s wall of reflection can reflect them, an elementalist’s magnetic aura can’t and a theif’s smoke screen can’t absorb them. All of these skills are supposed to counter projectiles, but only some actually work. I was considering using a focus on ele, but I am not sure the swirling winds skill will absorb the projectiles. If you have any idea whether it will or not, please tell me. Thank you.

Swirling winds will absorb

The thing is, those projectile are:

• bouncing => they go over the smoke screen most of the time or the #4 focus of mesmer
• aoe projectiles that are actually ground targeted and not toon targeted => which makes reflects like magnetic aura not work.

However, if you go at ~500 range, the projectiles won’t hit you most of the time ^^

Smoke Screen absorbs just the way Wall of Reflection does reflect.

Is there any minimum distance from lupi I should stand so that swirling winds work? Or is it effective at all ranges?

It’s effective at all ranges. Are you having a problem with projectile absorbs/reflects? Or rather, a specific problem.

I just have had problems with the projectiles on other classes with different skills, but I want to try out focus ele, so I wanted to clarify. Thanks for the reply

It’s about the time your absorb/reflect skill gets active. If he unleashes a projectile and then your skill get active, the projectile will ignore that skill.

I can’t get Whirling Defenses to work on that kitten at all.

Based on my experience on my ele:

• Focus earth 4 is not a guaranteed reflect for the AoE projectiles since the area of reflect is so small. You’ll reflect the projectile aimed right under your feet, but the one just over 50 units away from you will hit you with splash damage. I haven’t had much luck using this one to save myself from the P3 AoE barrage, but I may be activating it too late. Works fine against the single-target projectiles.
• Focus earth 5 will protect you from all damage, I think. I don’t think I’ve tried it during the P3 single-target life steal, but it has protected me from damage from all of his other attacks.
• Focus air 4 (Swirling Winds) absorbs the projectiles. It will also absorb AoE projectiles, even if you are at his feet – just make sure to hit it when you see the hug. Hitting it when you see the AoE rings means you’re casting it too late. And it’s larger than a Mesmer’s feedback, so don’t use both on the same attack or else you make your party very sad. I have not tested it against the P3 AoE barrage.
• Staff earth 3, like Focus earth 4, has a small area of effect so you’ll likely be hit by splash damage from AoE projectiles. Maybe it will work if you’re lucky, but I’m not that lucky. Works fine against the single-target projectiles.

Uuuh no, the cricles are supposed to indicate where the projectiles will hit. Though they are misleading in lupi’s case.

Those that you can reflect (under him, where feedback pops up) show up after they hit.
