Looking to get into raiding and I am satisfied I have a good revenant build, and a good mesmer build, but I want (in case we lack the need for) a good condi build so I am going to go with corruption necro. Viper’s stats are suggested as best, but I don’t think I am ever going to be able to make a complete set of Viper’s armour (certainly not any time soon) because of needing a lot of the materials for guild hall and so on. Plus I have already a set of ascended Rampager’s gear.

So, my query is, what is a ‘closest to’ Viper’s set stat? Rampagers/Rabid? I realize nothing will be the ‘same’ but obviously under the circumstances I just want to get as close to…

If you can’t get Viper, then your next bet is Sinister. If you can’t get sinister then you are out of luck because Rabid is a no no. You will grab agro and kitten up the entire run for everybody. Rampagers and Carrion are just not good enough for raid.

Sorry to break it to you, But no closest to vipers exist, next to no group (especially pugs) would take you, maybe if you joined a guild. I’m sure some would for training runs, or to just carry you through.

As for a few more points, Mesmer… chronotank is the most important role in VG(first boss), and would take quite a while for a newbie to learn such a role, meaning to attempt to raid (again especially pug) would again pretty much be impossible.

Best bet you got, looks like you got to try to stick with your herald. which is pretty simple attack boss, buff friends, profession.

A lot of condi players have a mix of viper/sinister trinkets

Armor and weapons vipers are not hard, just buy the recipe from Auric basin and switch stats on Ascended.

You can get viper amulet from living story reward.

If you have a legendary back I suggest to use it with Viper stats

Progressing you raids run, you will buy viper rings/accessory

Alternatively you could start raiding with the classes you have and use your shards for more gear.

Change it via Mystic Forge? As one stated above, you can buy the receipts in Auric Basin.

Erm, changing stats to a pre-existent set of ascended armor isn’t all that expensive…

Yea the stat swap to ascended vipers from ascended anything would be the best bet, especially now that black diamonds are about a fifth of the cost compared to pre-april patch.

You can get sinister trinkets from LS2 unlocked, and buy extras from Silverwastes or with Laurels (look at the bottom of the accessory tab for the proper stats).

Also, if you are running something like a necro needing to hit 100% bleed duration, look into maybe making an exotic Viper’s Amulet, that takes 400 jewelry and the recipe comes from Auric Basin.

What are you talking about? Viper is cheap. Just craft any vanilla ascended and then reforge it into viper with exotic insignias. Sinister trinkets are OK. You should get viper amulet from doing Chapter 4 HoT achievs. The rest of the trinkets can be bought for raid tokens.

The alternative to ascended viper gear for necro is exotic vipers gear.

I highly recommend you craft a set of exotic vipers trinkets. Condi duration is key for necro.

Having full ascended with only exotic viper trinkets is a marginal difference.

If a raid group won’t take you because your trinkets are exotic instead of ascended and they fear that will wipe them, they’re likely incompetent morons and you should avoid their group anyways.

If your group knows the mechanics, the content is perfectly doable even in full exotics.

Hell, some of these bosses are being 4-5 manned. That should give you an idea about the actual DPS requirements. People just love to exaggerate the difficulty of these raids. These raids are no WoW mythics, FFXIV Savage modes, or Wildstar raiding.
