Raids: How do rewards work?
From what it seems like people get their own loot, this has been ArenaNet mindset since launch. The purpose is to have a challenging hard content for the elite players. It seems you get 12g a week from it.

Riku is correct. You get your own rewards per boss, including two rare/exotic drops (high chance of exotic) and a chance at both ascended rewards and exclusive rewards. Additionally, because it’s the most recently released raid you get 4g per boss per week, to a total of 12g if you beat the entire wing.
For each attempt (even if you lose) each person gets a certain amount of raid currency.
If you win, a loot chest drops (looks just like the chest at Teq or end of DS meta) that each person can loot once per week.
For a night of attempts, I got like 20 magnetite shards (0-2 per attempt, depending on the phase you pushed it into), which actually seems like slightly more than what someone would get outright killing it on the first attempt (but saving several hours). Not really sure how many shards are needed for rewards though.

Upwards to 600 or so are needed.
