Raids Temporarily Off-line
At least you were very open and kept your line of communication open to those who waited. No worries at all as there were many emergency calls made and try to keep the beta weekend alive. Hopefully this won’t happen when the HoT is released
A lot of us pre-purchased Heart of Thorns to get access to the beta with the intention of experimenting and testing the raid content. As soon as the beta went live, we updated, made new classes, and waited outside the raids, only to get inside and get booted immediately. If you were lucky enough to get to make it inside of the raid, you would grind through three trash mobs, only to get dc’d by the boss. Most of us waited for hours for the UI to be fixed outside of the portal, only to be greeted with forum posts saying “we’re working on it”. After having it confirmed as working by a developer as “fixed”, we logged back on in an attempt to get back into our raids. If you had the misfortune of being tagged during this time any change of map or dc would leave you done for the night. This didn’t just affect those of us attempting to test raid content, it affected the commanders who were participating in reset night on wvw, Guild leaders taking their guildies through missions, and even people who were generally helping others and were tagged up at the time.Due to the extent of the issues and the hype that came around the raids and the Beta Weekend in general, I feel like some form of compensations would be a nice condolence to “heal some of the wounds” not just to the beta players, but everyone affected by the unfortunate bugs yesterday, as well as to boost the moral of the community for the expansion to come.

It’s a beta weekend, it’s for testing purposes, not early access. The Squad UI was severely broken and caused issues across the entire game, not just raids. They need to test this stuff on the live server’s so that they can find the bugs, and later down the line fix them. Rather it now than when the game actually releases.
I’m pretty sure he mentioned that it caused issues across the games…. and its not self entitlement i know i waited multiple hours outside of that raid to test it and they never put it up. I understand its beta but you cant put up non working content for players to try out and then just go oh well. If the raids weren’t working then simply dont throw them up on the beta. What actually happened though was we were told we would get to test the raids and they didnt work then when they tried to fix them they broke it more. I understand its not as simple as i make it out and i do appreciate the opportunity to try out the beta AT ALL (had LOADS of fun as reaper XD) however people have a right to be upset that they didnt get what was kinda promised to them.
maybe you guy should retest the commander tag outside the beta to make sure you don’t break the core game again, I think it is too ambition for anet to run a beta without first testing the code on the stable world. as I recall, this functionality was enable before the beta, and we were testing it in openworld map (to avoid disrupting wvw), we could already see problem cause by some of the diabled feature to normal tag play then, had we had a chance to play with it more, the issue could be addressed in a more manageable manner (serve their non-raid function first!)
Feed the Merlion… before the Merlion feed on YOU!
Im not saying i disagree with the devs decision. Just pointing out it never completely locked us out of anything until they actually disabled it. Some would certainly prefer trying to work with a broken system than not playing at all. Its a valid opinion.
I was just clarifying what Wizeon meant. Dont assume i agree with him.
Not really spoj.
I couldn’t enter the Raid instance before they disable the Squad UI. Then after they implemented the temporary fix, tagging up made me unable to log into the game for twenty minutes. When I logged into the game, I could not join my friend instance (open world shards, fractals, COE, any). We had to re-make the group a couple of times, and finally after we all had to refresh out client one more time after the patch and I had to remake my beta character, we were able to do some… fractals.
I couln’t fathom what kind of workaround I would have to pull to be able to do raid. Maybe a 5-man group? Since squad was broken.
It’s regrettable that we can’t test raid during this beta weekend.

There was no self entitlement at all in that post, just a person with this thing called an “opinion.”
If they really truly want to test stuff on live servers, there are these things called PTR servers they could have implemented that are not connected to the main servers, but still act as normal live servers. If stuff happens on PTR servers, it does not affect the main game, and they can test everything with people who bought the beta or whatever.
But Anet refuses to do it. Talk about a backwards company who appears to be stuck in archaic times.
@Iris
Exactly you could work around it by reforming the groups and relogging. Its a pain and silly to expect anet to keep it going like that. But it never fully locked us out (even if it seemed that way for a few people). Our entire group couldnt enter for a good 30 minutes before we managed to get it working. But SOME people WOULD prefer to play it like that rather than not at all. Obviously not everyone.
The devs made the right decision given the circumstances. But personally i would have preferred to play even if it was broken. Because i dont log into the game to play 3 year old content anymore. Only reason i actually decided to play this weekend was for trying out raids. And i know thats the same for a lot of others.

Another weekend event bites the dust
It was a good call to call it off and start looking at how to fix it in ways they didn’t do in the beta weekend. I rather them have a problem now and figure out how to fix it than to have the problem when HoT is released.
Yes, it sucks we won’t be able to do the raids but I’m fine with it as long as they are using this time to fix it. I think a good chunk of us understand that a “beta” is not an “early access” type deal. A “beta” is used to check for any issues that would/could arise from new or updated content. Keep on keeping on Anet!

It’s not like I was ever going to get to raid when HoT released, now I can practice not raiding ahead of time.
Regina Buenaobra.6193:
Hey everyone, I have an update regarding the availability of raids.
Due to the issues we experienced yesterday with the Enhance Squad UI and with further internal discussion, we have made the very difficult decision to keep raids turned off for the remainder of the beta weekend.
We are continuing to investigate the issues and also looking into options that would allow us to get more testing on these features before we release.
We thank you for your patience and understanding.
I suspect that the game systems are being rushed to meet the deadline. I’m wondering if there any discussion of perhaps postponing the first raid a few weeks to a month? It would give the players time to experience the other new content and master their new specializations. It would give the team more the time to test and polish the raids. Hopefully, you aren’t polishing a turrd.
Thanks for the update, Regina! Raid team, know that the only disappointment you’ll see in this thread is from passionate people who are just sad that they don’t get to try it out. We on the large understand that this is a super complex system and hopefully we’ll have some way to give you guys additional feedback before release!
Either way, thanks for the heads up. Back to testing specializations!
Hey devs, sorry it went down like this I know you guys probably put in a lot of late nights trying to meet this deadline. It happens. Looking forward to trying raids when they are ready.
I honestly don’t mean to be harsh or cynical. But this is now two major events in a row where it seems like the QA process failed. What assurances do we have the entire expansion won’t be a bug-ridden disaster? Is something fundamentally changing at ArenaNet?
wow guys, the sheer number of “wahh my beta weekend was ruined” posts is simply astounding!
do people know what a Beta weekend is even FOR?
I just wanted to leave a little thankyou note here for ANet, because I know you guys stayed up to ridiculous hours last night desperately trying to find a solution to the problem, and I can understand you guys must be incredibly frustrated not being able to properly test your content :c
Hopefully you guys got some good feedback from the numerous crashes this weekend and you’ll be able to discover the problem before release
And thanks for actually letting us know whats going on! I know a lot of companies that simply dont give a kitten .
Keep up the hard work ANet! \o/

There aren’t any assurances, and I don’t think you (or anyone) is going to get them. It’s not reasonable to ask for assurances, because unsuspected things happen. All the time. Testing on a live server can bring problems that are completely new and couldn’t be predicted. Something that works fine first can suddenly break, etc etc. It’s a good thing that they are open in their communication. It’s clearly not that easy to fix, so that will take its time.

Right. But other MMOs don’t have these problems to the same extent because they have better internal testing coupled with public testing.
Since we’re not testing three of four zones in the expansion and 11 out of 12 raid bosses, I think it’s fair to ask if something is changing internally to make sure all of this content isn’t bugged in a way that makes it unplayable. This is all costing us $50, after all.
I’m really disappointed. Not only was it the one thing I actually wanted to play, it was the only new CONTENT that we were going to be able to beta test. I get that it is unfortunate that there were unintended effects of the new squad UI, but these effects should not have been able to make it thus far. Such an obvious error of not being able to see Guild Chat is embarrassingly simple to make it into even a beta weekend. I’m willing to put that aside, however, because of the shortsightedness in even putting out this raid content. You give us content to test (GREAT! [really it’s not sarcasm]) but it’s based on using new technology that you clearly knew wasn’t tested appropriately, because of such an obvious bug. There was no “back up” plan (like having two parties of 5 and one entering then asking a member of the party if they would like to join and then they can ferry in or something like that) so that the entire testing of a certain type of content is gated by the functionality of (or rather nonfunctioninality) of new QoL updates. It all appears as extremely shortsighted actions for such a large portion of the dev and user-based hype for BWE3.
Do I expect bugs in a beta? YES. Do I expect the content that was so hyped up by devs and players to be rendered inaccessible due to shortsightedness in devs? No. I’m not going to pretend that creating an alternate solution to entering raids is an easy fix/preparation on behalf of the devs, as I am incapable of imagining what that would be like. That being said, thought and care should have been put into this subject, and it simply wasn’t. I hope that this bug can be fixed soon and that raids will be open for testing again (for bugs, obviously) in the next few weeks before release.
There is so much self entitlement going on in the GW2 community surrounding the release of HoT. Call it not, if you wish, but it is what it is. Just because you stood around for hours does NOT mean that you deserve anything as compensation. You could have been testing the rest of the BETA content that was available and working. Anet did not say “Stand by the raid portal aimlessly while we work vigorously until 3AM our time attempting to resolve this issue.” That was your choice not to be doing something more productive, for lack of a better word. You did purchase the $50+ expansion, however that was with intent to play the expansion and have it working as intended, NOT for the BETA weekend which was graciously offered. You are not owed anything from this company until October 23rd. Get a hold of yourselves people.
On a side not, thank you dev team and mods for your work. I, like the rest, was genuinely looking forward to the raid testing but.. that’s what BETA weekends are for right? Finding this kind of bug/hole and patching it prior to expansion release. You guys do an excellent job, and thank you for keeping the lines of communication open with updates and all. BTW, the Reaper is awesome. Don’t change it at all.
Some ppl thinks “beta access” is the same of “VIP Early Access”

well beta is beta, but then again if you are essentially selling beta accekittenanges the relationship.
anyhow less worry about compensation, and more worry about the fact that a lot of this stuff seems like it needs to be tested live, but they dont have that sort of system in place.

I trust that Arena Net will take care of their passionate fan base, as well as their … passionate customers surrounding HoT release. It just doesn’t help anything when people react to an adult situation like they are children. Last I checked, kicking and screaming while sitting in the shopping mart went by the wayside around the same time as diapers. I hope, too, that everything is in working order Oct. 23rd., don’t get me wrong, but I’m not going to scream and cry and bash Anet surrounding a BETA weekend (meant to discover faults) about a fault!
Extremely disappointed by not being able to play them this weekend. We still need to test them regardless. Beta is beta, thats cool but still the expectation was still there.
Raids and druids would really need another BWE (scrappers probably too, but I did not look much at them).
I surely hope you will have another BWE coming up or if something like this merits a reason to push the expansion back a month or two if it will mean that players will have a fully refined experience.

actually being quiet about your gripes is not the best way to handle anything. The people who ask for a lot and make their desires known get pretty far. It boils down to personality types, but it has been shown that the demanding people are more effective.
yeah, it may be annoying but its actually more effective, Even for developers, the worst thing is silence and the belief some one magically always knows what you want.
Hacked off that there is no real actual beta for the game and it is 20 days till release. Everything is just snippets.

want to hear a joke?
Anet’s QA team.
Wow, reading through some player’s posts here almost makes me feel sad about humanity’s future. Self entitlement mixed with opinions from people that have ZERO knowledge about development is sad. It is not because you have an opinion and you are free to say it that your opinion has value (or is correct). You can say the biggest bullkitten out to the 4 winds and it would still be bullkitten.
That said, ANet could have really used a PTR server to test their biggest systems, like Squads and Raids. These occasional 2 days testing on the weekends are too little. I won’t be surprised if they postpone the release of the new Squad system (and, therefore, raids) to a date after the official release of HoT.
An opinion is always correct. Its an opinion. It can be based on false information. But the opinion itself is always valid. If you say “I think pigs can fly” thats fine, its your opinion even if it has no basis. However if you say “Pigs can fly” then you would be talking bullkitten.
Im more disgusted by how everyone is jumping on each other for having different opinions. And then acting as if they are superior somehow. Its absurd.

Raids were not going to be launched at release of HoT anyway, though.
Well… devs did say they were looking forward to some tears. just probably not the tears they were expecting
xD
Please make Beta 3 longer?
I was so excited with the first raid test and being waiting it for a week .
And as the raid and squad UI is the theme of this beta weekend.
I wish they can make the beta test longer when they fix those bugs.

I agree. Nothing will ever be repaired, amended or altered in the way that it needs with silence. However, I never said to be silent about issues. I just stated that we, as consumer adults, should not be acting like children. Being a child may be more effective, but it’s pathetic.
Raiding is now enabled. Everything looks good, but we may have to disable it again without warning. Go forth raiders!

Thank you so much Arena Net! Whether it works through to the 4th or not, you guys work your kittening kitten off to make it all possible. OHHH YEEAAAHH!!
Is this why we can not form parties or talk in party chat all of a sudden?
While Enhanced Squad UI is enabled you cannot be in a party and a squad at the same time. Reform your squad to take advantage of the full enhanced squad functionality.
That said, we are still having some stability issues…

Alright, our raid made it it now
yep this is why party chat just died. thought it was said no raids?
edit: For those that see this, Every time Anet has enabled the enhanced squad, you have to log out if party chat quits working because you can’t leave party. When you come back, you won’t be in party and can reform.

Well, some of our members went to bed already because we were told there would be no raids, but we’ll try to scrounge up a party.
When we go to red portal, it is greyed out, but we are in a squad, hellp? do we need 10 ?
is it disabled again?

We’re turning it back off because of the instability, but when you do get a chance to try it again, you have to change your squad to a raiding squad. Somewhere on my list of stuff to do I’ve got a task to make that better messaged.
