I am currently playing a mesmer (sword – pistol / focus) and have made the mistake of coming to the forums and finding out how our main role is being better performed by guardians.

My main focus is to dungeon (fractals) with my guild and was wondering if there were any suggestions on a profession – preferably ranged that would be desirable in fractals?

Coming here asking for suggestions on ranged combat is a huge mistake, don’t pick a profession because it’s ranged option is great, a good ranged option is just a bonus for the few encounters that warrant it.

Zerk build with GS/ x + focus in fractals. That’s the best ranged dps you can get. Don’t bother to do mes condition build in fotm.

Engineer might be the best option. I think engineer’s grenades have the best ranged dps when traited, and they deal a lot of vulnerability stacks and can cause chill and blindness. Then if you have to kite a boss you can use bombs.

After i saw this vídeo i got motivation to finish leveling my eng, and i’m finding it very fun to play ^^

The only profession that is ranged close to as effective in melee is engineer.
For the GS on mesmer: whenever i see a GS mesmer and he isn’t willing to change i kick him. Theres just no excuse for that. Much worse than bearbow’s.

But please don’t range at all, you will likely mess mobs aggro up, don’t bring boons to the party and also don’t receive any (→ bad DPS).

Technically, Engineers can only range. They’re pretty good at it, too. They have a lot of support and healing skills, so Engineers are like mini guardians in that sense.

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.

Engineer, I guess. But I’m not sure how well PUG’s receive Engineers.

Yea, engineers are really the best choice if you want to stay ranged since they do so well with the grenade kit (assuming you can get used to spam targetting your main attacks instead of letting auto-attack do all the work for you).

They also do pretty equal damage with either condi gear or berserker gear.

Overall, they’re probably one of the more under estimated classes, but their damage is solid and they’re great at stacking vulnerability on mobs as well.

I play a Engineer with a static discharge build, and i rarely stay ranged. Just on a few bosses were i am too stupid to dodge everytthing (like vulcanic shaman)
I mostly use Bomb Kit too, never rly used Granades much cause it kills my fingers.

Much dmg comes from Blunderbuss (directly in dat face) and Jump Shot, than i switch to toolkit for a sweet Pry Bar hit (hit 15k once at arah p3 hunter) than i switch to bombkit for the best autohits and maybe do a might combo with firebomb + BOB + rifle turret blast + Supply Crate
But yea it has the best (MID-) ranged burst ive seen. dont know much about granades tho

Oh right, I keep forgetting about the tool kit. Mostly because I never use the thing for damage.
