Rangers in dungeon groups
If you are talking about CoF then that is to be expected. Here’s why:
Half of the community farm CoF p1/p2 once a day. They are fast, decent rewards, good armor stats. The other half like to speed farm CoF p1 for several hours and require 4 wars and 1 mesmer (typically). The speed farm can be done in 5 minutes, where as a non optimal group does it in 10 minutes.
As long as your group is clear on if they are doing a daily p1/p2 vs p1 farm, then there shouldn’t be any issues.
If a war is whining, then it’s his fault, he needs to go find a speed farm team.
ALSO: try finding a group on gw2lfg.com. I usually don’t run into issues with pugs on there.

How I feel exactly, Like even with 3 decent zerker warriors we do like 8 min runs and he has crappy gear. It’s just crazy like “ranger?” instaleave lol
I haven’t played any other MMO’s (besided gw1), but a friend of mine told me that this mindset is a guild wars community thing, not found in other MMO’s to the degree that it’s found here. There were many speed runs in gw1 that were the same.

Its personal preference, some people dont’ want to play with rangers, especially in pve content so they don’t play with them. Why kitten about it? i personally say “no rangers” in my lfg post most of the time, not just for cof but for any path.
I do this because i have a maxed ranger, guard and war and to be honest the ranger is soooo far behind the war/guard in pretty much everything that they are just useless, thats my personal opinion but everyone is different. If you don’t like it then play a different game and stop complaining about it.

Just to clear this up, elitism of all shapes and sizes has been around in the genre for ages. In the grand scheme of things GW2 has actually done a pretty good job of avoiding class-based discrepancies, and class-based elitism is certainly present but ridiculously tame (comparatively).
I think your friend is talking more about the speedrunning causing elitism. I had never even heard a speedrun before coming to this game, and I remember typing N to go North.

Play games for fun and classes we enjoy playing? NOT IN MY MMORPG
There are times when certain bosses will instantly destroy a rangers pets, times when pets are useless, or times when they flat out disrupt certain mechanics. One example is the dredge fractal boss, if the pet grabs aggro, it’s not possible to drag the boss to the lava. Because of that, a ranger can’t use their pet there, because of that, rangers deal considerably less damage than other players.
I go with anyone when pugging and generally don’t care what class people are, but rangers are sometimes pretty frustrating when their pets do stupid things, so I can understand why some people don’t like being with them.
As an asura, I do this all the time.”
a zerker ranger with a jaguar and traps can do a lot of dmg. not as much as a warrior but it’s nothing to sneeze at.
having played a gaurdian and now a ranger i can say my DPS is far far better as a ranger than a guardian.

Seriously hope your not trying to compare a guard to a ranger. Guardian’s have party-wide stability, prot, regen, reflect, aegis, and burning with the ability to ball up most trash mobs with GS 5. Add in the might stacks on crit plus the staff and its a no brainer.
This is typically known as the “Ranged clkittene” mentality. Every MMO has this issue with the elitist jerks who try to quote specific stats, damage etc., to try and justify their silly attitudes.
After Rangers are completely ostracized thanks to the elitist morons, then they’ll target the NEXT worst class overall, and do the same to THAT class, and so an and so on, until there are maybe…….MAYBE, 2-3 classes that EVER get groups.
Those who think “I’ll play wtf I want sokitten” eventually leave the game, and since they’re most likely the majority who play, the game dies, and the elitists all say “ZOMGOD THIS GAMEZ TEH SUKZ CUZ NO ONE PLAYZ!!”
They migrate to the next gen MMOs a time after the fun-loving players do, and begin to troll THAT game to their silly mentalities, rinse, repeat.
So I guess you COULD say that the elitist jerks are nothing more than MMO trolls that get off on destroying a game’s infrastructure.
Just sayin……

sure they do, but last time i checked, rangers also have party wide buffs and other utilities as well.
staff is garbage for anything except 4. most decen players abandon the staff in favour of something like sword/focus.

Thought it was pretty obvious i was talking about might stacks and staff.

You really haven’t a clue about rangers have you?
Never forgte that the majority of real baddies ALL play warrior. That’s cos it’s the single biggest faceroll class in the game that requires minimum thought to play. It’s the same people who played w/mo’s with mending in GW1. I would take a good ranger over a typical noob warrior any day of the week.

Yeah… no. Take a Warrior into PvP and see how easy you “faceroll” a Mesmer, Thief or Elementalist. Or any other dungeon that isn’t “easy mode”.
The problem lies in CoF1 being far too easy to rampage through in glass cannon gear. This works with any class but Warriors do it the best.
Do you even lift, bro?

Uh..Yeah yeah…See the title of the thread….The clue was in the word DUNGEON…

yea, must be hard sitting back auto attacking as a ranger the whole time, wheres that dodge button again?

Honestly..l2p…
As a ranger I take solace in the fact that I can normally destroy warriors in PvP :P
But I’ve never really had this problem too much,I avoid those kinda “no noobs/only heavies” groups

-checks the forum section he’s reading-
I do believe we’re talking about PvE :P
In that regard, when I first started playing the game, I indeed started as a Warrior because I had a feeling it was the most straight forward class that would require little other gymnastics to play. This was back when I had to learn the functions of the game, how to move (I never play wasd controls but it seems necessary if I want to move camera), mechanics, etc. I’d suggest anyone new or unfamiliar with PC games in general to start with a Warrior
But just because it’s simple doesn’t mean it’s easy. And Glasscannon Warrior is tough to play well.
Oh, on topic. I’ve been interested in only 2 more classes besides the 3 I’ve rolled. Guardian and Ranger. I’m just waiting for a good reason (and name changes to come into the game to free up the 2 slots I have that are reserving the names I want) to finally roll either.

I love how you all only read the first sentence of my reply and ignored everything else.
Selective reading is fun!
Do you even lift, bro?
But the majority of your point was in the first sentence. And they really are pretty good at any dungeon. Even the ‘hard mode’ dungeons, they tend to come out on top and are negated less (really annoying being faced with stuff in dungeons that basically say “Illusions? Yeah, you’re not gonna get to use them right now”). Many dungeons revolve around “kill it” and “don’t die”. Warrior can do both pretty well.
You can’t faceroll them, which was the point I was countering. The problem really is CoF1 being too easy to farm as a glass cannon, but as I also pointed out any class can do that. Warriors just do it better. That people are being jerks is in no way the fault of the Profession itself.
Do you even lift, bro?

if you can’t beat them, join them or ignore them!
craft your lvl 80 warrior for farming dungeons!
everyone and their grannies have a warrior nowdays..
the why my “x” class is unaccepted are getting old…
if you really want to play with non-mainstream classes..
ignore the elitists and play with
people that can accept difference in class setup.
there are many even in pug groups.
What’s the deal with warriors on any sort of farming run bailing when there is a ranger in the group? Literally the only class I see instabail and they always ask, “Ranger?” and upon answering yes, they leave. As if it’s 100% impossible to clear an instance quickly without 5 zerker warriors. Now this is absolutely the only complaint I have towards this community. Coming from other mmos this community is kitten near perfect, everyone is nice, everyone helps people out and no one is a jerk for no reason… except in dungeons.
soooooooooo what’s the deal?
There’s no issue. Rangers have no problem in teams.

You are all wrong to complain about rangers. Rangers are fine because this guy said it !
I hate rangers because most of them use their knockback when they don’t need to.
I hate rangers because most of them use their knockback when they don’t need to.
A good ranger will not use their knockback when they don’t need to.
Hammer guardians also have a knockback and people still party with them plenty. Please don’t blame a class for a few people who misuse a skill.
Main: Caeimhe – Sylvari Ranger
Alts: Charr Guardian, Asura Elementalist, Human Thief, Norn Necromancer
yea, must be hard sitting back auto attacking as a ranger the whole time, wheres that dodge button again?
actually, I’ve met 4-6 warriors now that say the specific reason they made a warrior is so they don’t have to dodge that and I see people not dodge like 90% of mechanics in dungeons. I just got the general idea that a lot of bad people play this game but the community makes up for it
also, I’m not a ranger I’m a mesmer. I just feel bad for rangers that join groups and have all the glass cannon dps run for the hills upon joining
That’s why arena net needs to implant something like gw2lfg since a lot of people don’t know about this. So issues like these barely happen since they know before hand what kind of group they in or what kind of group person X is looking for. Myself I’m more for bring the player not the class, I had a lot of times when people say “oh we don’t have a guardian this will go bad” and then we finished the dungeon without a wipe and reasonable speed, even with 2 rangers in the group.
Luckily so far it does not happen as much as WoW and I hope the community in GW2 will be more mature then that game for a long time.

Because I have a ranger that runs dungeons and I’ve teamed with rangers and never had any issues with them that were due to class.
So yeah, they are fine because I said it.
(edited by DeathPanel.8362)
usually my ranger is the one reviving the glass cannon warriors in dungeons.
The only time I have been kicked from CoF p1 group on my ranger….was by an engineer. He claimed he “had a friend” even though I was second to join the group. Warriors arent the only ones. Also, try using a GS on your ranger. You will shock, wow, and awe the melee’ers once your mixing it up with them
Because they bring less to a group then other classes. It’s not that they can’t do a dungeon, it’s that they are less efficient and have less valuable utility skills that increase the dps of the entire group and or provide valuable dungeon utility like reflects, boon stripping, boons in general.
A large part of their dps is through pets, which also die alot and are useless for burning down trash pulls where cleave and AoE are king.
So most people don’t want them when they can bring in something else that let’s you do things easier and quicker.

It’s about the total package…
In FOTM people want Guardian’s because they can make most of the encounters face roll easier.
CoF P1 people want Mesmers only because of Time Warp and Portal because otherwise it would just be 5 Warriors.

Shayera Nightfall – 80 Mesmer
