As the title asks, does anyone know why Anet decided to time-gate dungeon tokens? Before you could do multiple runs (if you had alts) and collect the full amount of tokens for each, if you wanted to spend the time doing so.

Now the full amount of tokens are only rewarded once per day per account. What made Anet go through with this decision? It doesn’t make the game more difficult, it just makes it more tedious. I thought Anet was against doing that…?

You can repeat for 20 tokens as many times as you want atleast. The biggest issue is no more karma in dungeons.

You can but all they did was make it much slower and more of a grind…something they said they were against… /shrug

Ok… there was a while where you could do 2 paths, swap to an alt and still get no DR what so ever. It was very easy to rack up tons of tokens very quickly doing this. I got percursors doing this in SE by taking exotic weapons and tossing them into the forge. It was a bit over the top. That being said the current system is too harsh. Losing 1g+40 tokens +20 frags… it should have slowly scaled down like how it used to after they changed the alt swapping stuffs imo.

Might be able to ask support about that. It’s a valid question, yet as of now seems to have no answer as to why. It’s not like S.A.B, where you could just make a new character and run it again (although, time gating there is inexcusable as well), making alts able to run the dungeons requires a great deal more effort and is probably done moreso because the player(s) actually wanted more characters rather than just extra tokens.

Only reason I can think of is that whoever came up with the idea was either being stupid or just trying to make it take longer to annoy people. As if the waypoint combat lock wasn’t a dumb enough idea.

Anet has grown to hate alts over the past year. This is just yet another one of their attacks in attempts to stomp out people playing alts. They also would prefer players to avoid certain dungeon paths, as well as prefer zerg champ farming trains. This is the type of gameplay that Anet wants for the game.

Or perhaps they are just incompetent when it comes to giving appropriate rewards to incentivize more fun gameplay, and to provide larger rewards for more challenging (less brain dead) play styles.

I don’t think they hate alts, just that they are having difficulty balancing a player with 1 character Vs. another that has like 8. This is hardly the first MMO to have this problem. I mean alts would be good for them… more things a player might buy from the gemshop (x-mute stones, skins, etc.)
