Just finished my first run of the Aetherpath, which took our group five hours. Was really disappointed to see the reward of 2 gold when a ten minute CoF run gives 1 gold. Can this be increased significantly?

Five hours? Then you were either all first timers or pretty bad.
Aetherpath takes around 30-45min with a group who knows what’s up and isn’t too bad.

However I’d like to see a 3g reward for this path too.

Five hours? Then you were either all first timers or pretty bad.
Aetherpath takes around 30-45min with a group who knows what’s up and isn’t too bad.

However I’d like to see a 3g reward for this path too.

That’s his point. For a first timer it is very difficult compared to everything except Arah, but the reward is quite mediocre. Even first timers complete CoF relatively quickly.

The rewards for Fractals and Aetherpath suggest to me that Anet were moving towards a system that would emphasize meaningful drops (in the form of unique skins) over gold rewards. This is encouraging but unfortunately they dropped the ball by making the skin drops entirely RNG. What they should’ve done was the SAB reward system which was RNG drops + tokens exchangeable for skins as an alternative.

Well the aether skins should’ve been account bound in the first place like the fractal skins. There’s really no reason for a unique dungeon skin to be available on the TP. And value depends on the token cost. For fractal skins I’ve heard suggestions of something like 50 pristines which is reasonable.

Well the aether skins should’ve been account bound in the first place like the fractal skins. There’s really no reason for a unique dungeon skin to be available on the TP. And value depends on the token cost. For fractal skins I’ve heard suggestions of something like 50 pristines which is reasonable.

It’s the feeling of “wow, I just got a 1500g drop”. That’s why they’re tradeable. That’s why every dungeon should have such kind of weapons.

Rare weapons which give you a reason to run a dungeon over and over again, to get one of those skins, either for own use or to make a ton of money.

I wouldn’t even mind a fractal weapon trading post where you can swap fractal skins with other players.

Nah. I’d rather have the SAB loot system, where you can:

a) Run the dungeon several times until you have enough tokens to buy an account-bound version of the skin. Rewards dedication

b) Do the dungeon and hope to get a lucky drop (these Rare skin versions are sellable) from the chest at the end of the dungeon. This preserves the “windfall” feeling. Rewards luck

c) If you absolutely hate doing the dungeon, you can just buy the skin from one of the lucky players from option B. Rewards your work from other areas of the game/gem buying, which keeps ANet in business

In my opinion, the Aetherpath and the rewards are good as they are in the moment.
They reward those who take the challange and optimize their tactics with the chance at a rare weapon with a decent price(if they wish to sell them).
I’ve been running the path on a daily base now for a while, mostly half-random, and so far it took us never more than one hour, mostly ~35-40 Minutes.
Though this Dungeon is hard for the first time, it really get’s easier once you get the hang of the bosses and the Events(Like the Ooze puzzle).
Even if someone is a beginner in this path, it is easy to learn. But: Most players do not want to learn. They want to join in the party with no experience at all and then expect a fast run. But that’s not how it works. On my dailie runs, we’ve been rejecting a few players with this attitude.
What most people neglect to do is to make themselves familiar with the Dungeon Path before they try it. If players new to such paths would do this, they would have had less troubles beating it. And in fact, that is what I suggested to everyone by now.
This path really isn’t too hard, and it has been a lot fun to me the last weeks. The challange it brings every day when having another random player in the team, the hope of getting a rare Aetherized Nightmare Weapon one day, I would hate having changed to this Dungeon path. I like it as it is.

I’d definitely run aetherpath for skins, but not with the current RNG system. I don’t mind if its accountbound, just let me get a definite way to acquire the skin other than that godforsaken RNG part. I also think its very fun and challenging, more so than any Arah paths, but then the reward+ time spent is just not worth it. I can finish p1 and p2 with a good group in 40~60 minutes for guaranteed 6g+200 arah tokens or I list lfg for aether, wait good 30 min to an hour for a decent group, finish the path in an hour for 2g and some TA tokens…. Just rework the rewards better and more people will play.

Let’s wait till week 3 before going mad about this

If nothing happens, then +1 for the mentioned ideas (including account bound aetherised nighmare skins ~ fractal skins are bound too :P)

I’ve run 100+ aetherpath so far, learnt to duo, selling full achievment runs, but that’s all just gold, and i haven’t seen any skins to drop yet ._.

Looks like i could get those skins faster by forming open world and buying from TP, not sure if that’s working as intended.

Average dungeon loot (i mean, every single time i run it…) :

  • Sparki & Slick: champ bag +3 blues; if exotic, it is normal nightmare skin, not the aether one.
  • Foregman Spur: no chest, only champion bag
  • End Chest: 3 greens, if rare : it’s a tonic
    if exotic: it’s a superior rune of 2silver
  • Hidden Chests: greens, rarely rares once seen a guy pulling out a precursor(spear) from one of these, but still it wasn’t a rare skin…

Best loot from the dungeon: the yellow salvagable, which can drop charged core/lodestone. GG.Well Played.
