Warrior and Rev both have a relatively easy rotation. In raids both have the added responsibility of cc’ing if an encounter requires it. Only few encounters require something special from those classes (ie. at sabetha warriors are used to get the timed bomb and whirl it out of the group; at trio revs generally take care of the mortars)

Most raid groups bring 2 warriors for every encounter, which means 2 / 10
slots are always “reserved” for them. On the other hand almost everyone has a warrior, so those slots can be filled up fast (a 3rd warrior is almost never used).
A lot of raid groups bring 1 revenant, some dont need any and get fury via druids, run a commander gear chrono and do not care about prot (or get it from a dh). On the other hand there are less revs out there than warriors (but not by much), and in my experience players with multiple classes do not like to run their revs very much.

If you are dead set on those classes I would go for the warrior, just because groups run 2.

If you want an “assured” raid spot you’ll have to look at druid/chronomancer. As they are in key roles in groups and not as easy to play you will often find groups looking for them.

I set all my characters up before starting to raid. I find myself being asked to bring Warrior and Necro most. As a main Engi I find most all other professions DPS rotations pretty dull >.< but Warrior is nice and relaxing to play so I don’t mind. Just don’t forget to set up your Mace/Shield for breakbar stuff(Sigil of Strength to keep might pumping at least somewhat), you end up in it a decent amount.

Who told you engi’s damage is bad?

I find out Engis are no longer really desired for anything, as their damage is sub-optimal compared to a few necros, and provide little to a group.

Who told you engi’s damage is bad?

No where in his post did he call engi’s damage bad.

In my experience almost everyone who has a rev has another class as well. This is because most people had a level 80 before HoT, and so rev is a second class for them. This means that if a group already has a rev, there is a high likelyhood that they will be able to switch to something else in order to accommodate.

In contrast, many people who play warrior only have the warrior. Also, many pug groups run 7-2-1 which usually only uses one warrior.

It’s probably fine to go with either and there won’t be much of a difference in ability to get into raids. Just note that neither of these classes should join a raid looking for dps. Those groups already have buffs covered and are looking for eles or thieves.

For fractals, both can be tricky with boon thieves. Both have mediocre dps and provide lots of boons. Rev can bring good utility in the form of ventari tablet to destroy projectiles at key points. Warrior can bring banners which are buffs that can’t be stolen due to mistlock. Also, if you are in a troubled pug fractal warrior can retrait for lots of survive if you give up might generation. I’ve saved people in barrage phase of mai trin by popping endure pain and ressing.

Rev has one of the easiest rotations in the game. Your utility skills are all upkeep so you press them once and wait till you are low on energy before swapping legends. Otherwise you spam 1 and 2. Warrior is more difficult as you want to maintain your damage buffs. You get 20% damage for 10 seconds from burst skills, and 10% damage from low endurance, but using burst skills restores endurance. Thus maintaining both buffs can be tricky. It’s interesting using dodge rolls as an offensive skill in your dps rotation.

Hope this helps

If you plan to do raid casually, I suggest you to have 2 classes ready for raid. You don’t need full ascended armor (unless you join in group that requires full ascended) but ascended weapon and trinkets are a must and easy to obtain now in game.

Your 1st class can be p/s (phalanx strength) warrior (or revevant because they share the same gear so you can move gear between chars.) Both classes are easy to play, check metabattle.com for information on gear, rune, skills and rotations.

Your 2nd class can be tempest (most group recruit at least 1 tempest for their run.) Tempest can be very squishy at first when you are new to the class. So just pay attention to your position during the encounter and avoid unnecessary damage and you should be fine. Also check the metabattle.com for information on gear, rune, skills and rotation on tempest.

Good luck to you in raid, have fun!

First off, I really love having an engi at Vale Guardian for seeker control. You can join a run with your engi when the lfg calls for condi. For warrior or rev, you’ll want to join the group specifically asking for your class.

If you are making ascended armor, the warrior and revenant can share the set. Warrior is used in raids to generate might. Revenant is typically placed in a party with the chrono to maintain Facet of Nature and some other boons (which the chrono will then extend to the rest of the group). Both classes bring good cc, some groups rely heavily on a revenant to use their staff 5 skill for cc.

Warrior has more build diversity (regarding raids). In addition to the standard greatsword PS warrior, there is the condi PS warrior. It allows you to have some range and could be taken as one of the condi members for Vale Guardian. So if you like to change things up sometimes, warrior may be a better choice.

In agreement with others, being able to “multi-class” will give you a better shot at a spot in raids.

For fractals Engi is almost always OP. For Raidsi would choose Revenant

I find out Engis are no longer really desired for anything, as their damage is sub-optimal compared to a few necros, and provide little to a group.

Had a laugh at this. Actually, when played correctly, engis are capable of the highest condi damage in the game. And they are awesome for high fractals (again, when played correctly). The problem with engis lies in the fact that: 1) Many people do not know how to optimize the rotation/play engis correctly 2) necros are far better at surviving than engis due to their high HP, shroud, etc. Therefore people look first for necros, since it’s usually just that much safer to bring them especially when picking up random PUGs.

As far as raiding goes, sadly yes, engis are in a bit of a tight spot right now… Nobody really wants them atm aside from at Vale Guardian and the escort. This is largely due to a lack of a unique party-wide buff that other classes can bring (revenant, PS warrior, druid, etc) and the engineer cannot. I really wish ANet would do something about this, but meh, it currently is what it is.

If you want to raid with a more reliable class, classes that are regularly looked for include druids, mesmers (as chronotanks), and tempests. Also warriors but as mentioned above, they are very common so those slots tend to be easy to fill.

Warriors and revs are both viable. However, warriors are in higher demand compared to rev’s due to the fact that they boost party wide dps alot. Some groups even run with two warriors to ensure everyone is getting the dps increase since buffs only effect 5 people at once.
