Rotation:
Begin the fight in Mallyx, begin with Embrace the Darkness, follow with Axe skill 1, then sword skill 2, then auto attack until sword 2 is off cooldown/energy drops to 0, then either cast sword 2 again or legend swap to shiro. Cast enchanted daggers if you need to sustain the scholar buff, afterwards trigger facet of nature and impossible odds, auto attack until Mallyx is back up, you’ll probably have 3 to 4 seconds of impossible odds downtime, although you should maintain quickness through that. When impossible odd runs out, end facet of nature and cast sword 2 (if it is up), then switch to mallyx as soon as it is up and repeat.

Close but there’s a couple things you’re missing:

1) You can’t have more than -10 Upkeep, so you can’t run Facet of Nature upkeep. You’ll need to double-tap it first and then pop IO

2) Your trait choices are close but I’d have taken something more along these lines: http://dulfy.net/gw2traits#build=AgYG5AVcA_Q~ This should give better Fury when you active your heal if you need it. The Might on Boon Application is just going to be better than the stunbreaker for PvE, especially if you’re popping the Facet of Nature active. Should be a little extra might per person. Also not sure if it’ll work on yourself but if it does it should be a decent DPS boost assuming you aren’t already capped on Might from your Ele or Warrior.

3) You’re most likely better off taking Fried Golden Dumplings. The Might gain will be better than 100 power (4 stacks of Might > 100 Power). The extended boon duration on should make up for the ~3.5% crit chance you lose out on from the precision, since it results in higher Might and Fury uptimes (as well as the 2% per boon bonus).

4) Not sure about the rotations. You may be better off popping UA depending on it’s modifier. Probably on the Mallyx rotation given Mallyx isn’t -10 and you can probably fit one in.

That said the idea of Mallyx Upkeep, swap, Shiro Upkeep is almost definitely going to be meta.

The build also depends if you’re running open PvE (testing out the new maps), or if you’re going to be running in dungeons/fractals.

Depending on your team you’ll want to take different foods. Dumplings are understandable to use in solo situations, but in an organized group with a PS Warrior the Dumplings will get less mileage. Any food with Precision may lose its usefulness since either a Discipline banner or a Spotter will get a Rev into the 90% for crit chance. Both Banner and Spotter will push Crit cap (if not already surpass it). Salads (or its cheaper variants) will probably be the best as Rev has a lot of non-rooting moves Though, I need to test if ‘mist’ skills (shadowstep-esque skills) count as rooted or moving.

Trying to pigeon hole revenant into shiro and mallyx is like saying ele should only use fire or guard can’t use any reflects. The other legends have so much support that it would be dumb not to use them.

So a couple things:

1. Is there any dev comment saying 10 upkeep is the maximum possible? While that sounds plausible, I’d like to see something saying 10 is the max ever. Assuming it is the max, the only change would be to cast the active at the start of the fight, or upon entering shiro to get a couple seconds of bonus duration on quickness.

2. In my build I am assuming at minimum an Elementalist and a Phalanx Strength Warrior, as such, there’s no need for additional might generation, and in fact the short duration of might generated could be problematic as it could overwrite boons.

3. Chances are +power +ferocity food is the absolute best food, but its easily the most expensive. Moving to maintain salad is probably not ideal, as sword 2 is most likely a root, and the sword auto attack has a returning projectile which can miss with too much movement.

4. That was not intended as a comprehensive guide to revenant, but rather a basic build to do maximum dps. In unoptimized parties you may need the revenant to generate might and/or fury, or need the revenant to use condi clears and projectile blocks, if that’s the case its perfectly sensible to swap legends in the same way any other class would swap utilities. However, the reveneant should be the last class to attempt to do this, as they have to sacrifice more personal dps than most other classes to gain utility.

Eh, sorta.

Mallyx and Shiro both offer high levels of damge output which is what the Revenant will offer most to the team. The other Legends are to be swapped as needed for their specific utilities.

Jalis offers personal tanking and sustain while offering party wide stab and damage mitigation.

Ventari is a heavy heal/recovery bot. There’s also projectile control, but I would generally let other classes who have reflect abilities take that responsibility before I would want to slot that Legend.

Glint is an amazing boon master. So if there’s ever a situation where you’re in a less than ideal team, Dragon stances can fill in the boons that aren’t already being distributed.

So it’s not necessarily pigeon holing but rather pointing out what’s their most contributive assets.

Honestly I think camping Mallyx is a waste. I really think that a Shiro/Glint build is far superior, with Ventari rotated in when projectiles need to be managed and Jalis rotated in when permanent stability is needed. I only see Mallyx being used if you happen to have a ton of conditions on you or if you need a boon rip. Sword/Axe is where a majority of the DPS comes from anyway, so legend choices are very mutable and flexible.

Honestly I think camping Mallyx is a waste.

It’s a 15% boost to stats. That’s literally huge. It’s somewhere around 350 – 400 power and nearly 150 ferocity for a full ascended Berserker spec. That’s an insane damage boost.

Hell assuming some basic stuff like full ascended berserker, a Co-eff of 1.0, an avg weapon str of 1000, 100% crit chance an attack is going to hit for 2105 in full berserker (2557 power, 214 Crit Damage)

With Embrace the Darkness you’re hitting 2534 damage. That’s a little over 20% extra damage.

This is assuming it’s taken into account BEFORE might, banners, etc. If it’s after then it could be even higher.

Unless you’re lacking a PS Warrior/Might Stacking Ele or a Guardian/Mesmer then Mallyx/Shiro is going to be the way to go. Hell Mallyx may even outdo Shiro depending on how much of a DPS increase quickness is going to be for the class.

If Mallyx ends up being better than Shiro (I don’t foresee that being the case), then Mallyx will get used consistently, but then Shiro will get rotated out for the other legends.

While a lot of damage is awesome, don’t get me wrong, it’s not as much damage as an Elementalist, it’s not as much AOE damage as an Elementalist, and it’s not as much utility as an Elementalist. If you’re not going to use the different facets of a Revenant that make it unique, versatile, and relevant (projectile absorbs, perma stability, perma AOE Fury, perma +50% boon duration to all allies), then you’re really not benefiting from running a Revenant in the first place.

So really there’s about 4 slots in a party that are pretty much locked in:

1 Warrior: You’ve got banners, Might, and Empower Allies + decent dps. Revenant could potentially cover the might, but doesn’t have the banners, and 150 ferocity is weaker than 150 power. Revenant’s dps when maintaining might is also likely substantially lower than Warrior’s.

1 Elementalist: You need at least 1 ele for access to at least 1 deep freeze, dps and fury generation. Revenant could bring fury generation, but Ele has deep freeze and much higher dps. Further, ele can also bring some condi cleanse and heals without needing to tank their dps to do so.

1 Thief: Stealth + potentially fury and vigor, as well as the most spammable blast finisher in the game. Thief also brings excellent blind access, something revenant needs to use a very specific setup and much lowered dps to bring. Revenant can’t bring stealth so it can’t replace the thief.

1 Guard/Mesmer: Reflects/projectile blocks/condi clear/stability/group aegis/distorion. Group quickness and fury. Rev can bring some of this stuff, but at a much higher cost than Guard or mesmer, and lacks the unique utility each class can provide.

So Revenant really only makes sense for the 5th slot that would usually be put for the 2nd Ele. The Revenant’s good points is fury aura + great vuln output. Potentially +boon duration could be helpful for pugs where if you do have a ps warrior they might not have strength runes and the proper food, in which case the +50% boon duration could be fairly useful. Overall, Revenant is almost certainly a weaker choice than the second Ele, and probably a weaker choice than Ranger. Trying to replace the guard or mesmer with revenant is probably not a good idea as its a serious dps loss to go ventari/jalis; and revenant lacks access to aegis or distortion.

Idk people say the dps of rev is around staff ele and condi engi. I think the boon enhancement is a good contribution especially in raid maybe.

Rev can do many of these defensive support things, as you said. The value of the Rev is they can do those things, when needed, but when not needed they can switch gears to offensive support. They are a bit more versatile than those. The problem is they suffer the jack of all trades issue that Engineer has, where in a record type scenario you go for specialists not generalists.

I’m curious, does DnT have numbers for revenant’s dps while in various legends? If Revenant actually has more dps than guardian, at least while in Shiro/Mallyx, and not too much less dps while in Ventari, then it might be a viable alternative in certain content. Although the fact that Revenant only destroys projectiles rather than reflects them is definitely problematic. You’d still be losing out on some of guardian’s utility that revenant can’t bring (partywide blocks, blinds)

If they do have numbers from the first BWE, they’re out of date. Revenant is getting huge mainhand sword buffs and other buffs elsewhere for the second BWE, so those will be the most recent numbers. My gut instinct is that it will have higher DPS than a Guardian just from Sword/Axe alone, and also carries an AOE Ferocity buff, and therefore will be a much better choice for the support slot than a Guardian.

It’s pretty easy to plug the list of changes into what we already have and get an idea. FWIW, in group play, the legend you pick isn’t particularly relevant since your DPS is determined mostly by traits and weapon choice and utility skills play only a small factor. Based on the changes they listed for this coming beta, if they stick with them Rev will be pretty strong.

That’s great news. I’m really excited to see what it comes to and the roles a Revenant can fill, especially since you confirmed what I already was thinking: that the DPS primarily comes from weapons and traits and utilities play a very small part.
