Reverse psychology is a godsend
I’ve noticed something similar, if I advertise an LFG for super casuals I’ll get at least one very experienced player.
Read: Playing to Win.
Guide: How to play a Mesmer in dungeons.
I think it is random. Both cases the guy who joined didn’t read the LFG information but saw the path.
My favourite was putting a math skill testing question in the subject
“Answer 2+3x2 on join”

Not many paid attention in 3rd grade I guess
I like to make my LFG posts something like…
“READ – 49 swamp ready – must love Ellie Goulding and long walks on the beach”
Surprisingly, pretty much nobody mentions anything when they join. I’m assuming they don’t read it at all. I still get idiots. There’s nothing I can do— I am a magnet for morons when I post on the LFG.
“READ – 49 swamp ready – must love Ellie Goulding and long walks on the beach”
e-marry me?

Don’t you mean e-marry Ellie!? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3tvV9l-mx8
I wonder how many ‘experienced only’ groups are full of people assuming that the other 4 experienced people will carry them.
Almost all of them. I made/joined SO many “experienced” groups for fun and ended up having 2-4 blatantly obvious non speaking/reading/thinking newbs it’s hard to believe.
Math meta is a good way to filter complete kittens though.

With a 4-members Snow Crows party we posted for CoE : P1&3, need bear-bow ranger.
We got a ranger for each path as one left :
- for P1 he was short bow but not bear and after 5 linutes asked if he couldn’t switch to a better weapon oO
- for P3 he trolled us to the last Alpha at which point he said : guys why can’t I play sword ?
Okay, this approach has failed now :P
Tried “P3 100k+ AP Bearbows” and nobody seems to have a sense of humour
Tried once, “AC P1, Pink Dye Only” got a bunch of 80 zerg with ascended not willing to change dye, worse, low lvls with bad build no good skills also not willing to change die.
So i gave up and went full elitist, not perfect but at least keep the faint of heart away.
i had $$$$$$$p2$$$$ and got full melee berserker party (2 sword rangers as a bonus)
$$$$$mon€¥ is good$$$$$
I joined a 50 000 000 000 AP + 10 legendaries party the other day. Was good. I think the person who made it was inspired by a different listing, apparently serious, asking for 20k AP.

AP elitism
It’s coming
Brace yourselves
Nope, not working.
ps: We started with P2 and Detha of course bugged out, so i had to leave. Such lost.
At least two of your warrs has nourishment/util buff.
Wait. Was it MF food?

I forgot to check that out actually. :/
I’ve started putting listings as “no fun allowed” but never mentioning it, or being obtuse if anyone asks. I do feel like it gets you people who are very much focused on the game though.
I need to try some of these, especially the math check and “no fun allowed”. Absolute genius.
One test I like to pull on groups I host in fractals is just rolling with whatever the first one is. Repeatedly rolling swamp is so boring. That being said, virtually EVERY time and I mean EVERY time I’ve hosted Fractals since the update, the first has been swamp. I don’t care what I get and still it comes up swamp. STAHP WID DA SWAMP!
The other thing I do with dungeon runs I host is at certain points when the usual tactic is to stack, I just leroy in. My guildies follow and we just chop down the mobs. Did that in COE last night, and just as one of the other joiners (I won’t say PUGs since they were actually pretty good) said “not going to stack?” I threw my sword (being a warr) at the first ice elemental, my axe at a second and my guildie (another warr) threw his sword at the goliath. Other guildie said, “stacking is for kitten” then went bearbow for the lulz. If joiners can handle that and not leave then it’s time for some fun.
Even went and took down the champion abomination.
I think I’ll try a new hosting line on COE
“P1-3, will aggro everything”
“P1-3, will aggro everything”
Bahahaha, that’s brilliant xD
Good way to make sure you get a group that won’t be too serious and it doesn’t come off kitteny.
I did a CoE advertisement that looked like: LFM CoE 3, MUST BE MM NECRO. Only 2 necros join, no MM.
Must be MM, will aggro everything…
tomato, tomatoe ;-)
That screenshot of the MM party in CoE at Alpha still cracks me up!

I know lol! That’s the reason I did it XD

Depends on the group. A bad one will roll for swamp after they have filled the party. Those are boring. And a bad sign about the groups competence if they have problems with anything that isn’t swamp.
A good group, or at least a good party leader, will roll for swamp while waiting for the party to fill up.

100% true. I do fotm on rare occasions nowadays but if I’m ever to host, I always roll for swamp before I even bother hosting LFG because it’s really annoying when people join while you’re rolling… especially when they don’t leave right away after upon finding out I haven’t rolled it yet.

Wat? A good group/party leader will roll character according to what pugs he gets, duh.

Like I said, I will never go deliberately for swamp, anyone who joins my hosted groups can leave or do whatever we roll. I just need to remember to post that in LFG. “49, swamp is NOT up, but it IS wet”
It’s because the bads want to join the good groups so they can get carried.

Azrael, I personally refuse to do harpy fractal with pugs so that isn’t as much of an option for me. I get what you’re trying to do, but I’d rather beat my head against the wall than even attempt to. Minimizing my chance for that fractal is absolutely necessary. It’s just one of those things that I have absolutely no tolerance for without much of an explanation for it other than it genuinely ruins my mood and motivation to keep playing :P
Lately I actually find underwater ruins one kind of fun to duo. Jellyfish boss is boring, but it’s more interesting when you’re duoing it level 50

I actually really enjoy harpies. It’s one of those sorts of maps that you know you’ve got the party for it but there’s always that slight window of error that means a knock down and you go flying. I usually go with guildies, particularly our guild leader who is a very good guardian.
However, I will agree that pugging harpies is like the lottery, you either get a great group and blitz it or it turns into a nightmare.
