So, I’m a guardian who pugs, and because I have a staff I’m usually only welcome in TA (mostly a joke there). The thing is that the staff swiftness symbol recently got overhauled, so that now the longer you sit on it the longer the swiftness duration lasts. Every time I lay one down however, most of the party take off straight away and set off the volatile blossoms unless I charge off with them.

Anyway, this is half rant, half public service announcement. The longer you stay on a guardian’s swiftness symbol, the longer the swiftness duration, and don’t assume that the guardian will take off straight away.

When you run trash in TA, equip a staff. When you prepare to fight, equip a real weapon.

But no worries, I like you. It’s because you’re here that I receive so many (too many actually) compliments about being a zerk guard with sword+focus, greatsword and hammer.

There’s no time to stand 4 sec in a symbol!

you don’t really have that happen in TA though. there’s almost always a little breather between trash skip segments where you can get OOC regen and stack swiftness/stealth etc.

I always strafe a bit in the symbol to get longer swiftness, which is a pain to get for a d/f ele :’<

I think OP is talking about the symbol before the run starts.

as an ele don’t you just stack your own swiftness with static field + blasts? also, gotta love d/f for skipping, obsidian flesh/swirling OP

Oh, good idea. I never think of it. I can try to stack it before the run, so guard doesn’t have to put down the symbol. Is the max duration for swiftness 60 sec?

no. I’ve seen 1min40+ swiftness when I get people to blast in my static field, although 60s should be more than enough. it might be good to use a different heal other than arcane brilliance though, because some trash skips are rather condition-heavy.

I reserve Magnetic Wave and Cleansing Flame for condi and mostly use the Glyph for quick cast + replenish swiftness.

In WvW guild groups, it’s not rare to have 2 minutes or more of swiftness du to the easier access to boon duration.

The rule is actually something like you have 5 stacks of speed, each with its own duration. So at some point you actually don’t gain more of that boon.

Theres only a few classes with limited swiftness and TA skips dont take a minute long where you need lots of it or anything. Id never wait tbh, especially if you have confidence in yourself you can complete the skip yourself. If they are a newbie then they wouldnt know to stand in it anyway, therefore its up to you to TYPE to your team and say “Dropping swiftness, stand for 5 secs” and itll be up to them to decide. If you randomly drop a effect on floor, most people wont notice, etc…

Its a nice notion just communicate with team for maximum effectiveness of its use

I’m amazed at how little communication there is, yet people get so frustrated when the other 4 members they haven’t said a word to don’t do exactly what they wanted.

Er, use retreat + stand your ground instead. Usually helps in full pug teams when theres always that one guy who dont know how to dodge so the aegis/stability prevent the endless knockdowns.

Yeah, you got me, I just camp staff the whole time, and when I hit 4 I make sure that nobody is close enough to benefit. The only reason I use shouts is to take advantage of my beautiful Altruistic Healing, but I make sure that I only use Stand Your Ground against bosses that don’t knock back. And if my party wipes while I’m still alive in my clerics and PVT gear (with a bit of Settlers thrown in because I hate having all those stats wasted on Power) I tell them dead is no dps.

I agree. Something like a MM necro should provide your team with some serious support.
