I call the devs to judge this forum post AND the freakin dungeon, because it needs to be done and adressed on how many people bug path 1 in order to complete it.

Our guild. The Republic [SPQR] on Sanctum of Raal, Got together for what is considered the impossible dungeon.

Here was our group makeup.

+2 Guardians
-1 Guardian was PURE DPS specced, a Norn Guardian
-The other guardian, was me. A heal-specced guardian, found Here
+1 Warrior
-Toughness/power/Vitality build
+1 Thief
-Power/Precision/Crit damage
+1 mesmer
-Power/Precision/Crit damage

Boss #2 spawns constant mobs which comes through boss #1’s domain. Which makes boss #1 harder, because of the constant spawns that occur.

Here is how we beat Boss #1.
We waited until a minion wave came, and we killed it as fast as we could. Then we just got right on the boss and DPS’d him down. Sounds easy, right? No. The constant spawn of mobs/ Engineers that lob grenades make this boss fight extremely harder and more difficult, especially since the boss can pull your and do a AOE spin attack, on top of the grenadiers throwing grenades on you.

A : Kill the minion wave before the boss. There will be 3 total minion waves before you reach the boss, maybe 4 if your DPS is sub-par.

B: After the third minion wave, the entire group walks in and begins to wail on the boss after the mesmer throws down a time warp

C: Both guardians pull out staff and use empower might/throw swiftness on the ground. This grants the entire party 24 stacks of might, as well as some mediocre damage.

D: 1 guardian keeps his staff out and the other picks up his greatsword and begins wailing on the boss.

E: the 1 Staff guardian throws down a line of warding 900(F) away to prevent the mobs from coming into the boss right room. After which the 1 guardian will throw his Santuary at almost the same spot, about 800(f) away. Preventing enemies from passing for another 8 seconds, due to traits. The 1 guardian will then throw an empower before switching weapons.

F: The mesmser will throw his illusionary wall that cripples the minions, at about 700(f) so they run at a slower speed for 5 seconds.

G: The 2 guardian will then pull out his staff while the other one switches to a mace/focus spec and #2 guardian then throws a line of warding 600(f) away since the minions have now broken free of sanctuary and are crippled.
The #2 guardian, because of his spec, cannot throw a sanctuary ,and instead will stand at the gate and activate it when the minions begin piling up. (By now there are 15 minions waiting to come in)

All together you have about 30-45 seconds to burn down the boss before the minion waves become unmanageable. We have tried every other method. From everyone DPS’ing the boss, from trying to take out all the minions first. There are just too many, and they hit way too hard, so the best way to get through this boss fight is to have Guardian CC’s.

After the boss is dead, We have the thief do a invisibility circle, and we all stand in it while the massive minion wave passes us by.

And that is how you defeat/ DO path 1 first boss, the only boss that forces people to quit the dungeon. If you have any other ways of doing this dungeon without exploiting. Please post it here and our guild would love to try out the different methods.

That is extremely impressive and well thought out!

I was under the impression(I can tell that you are too) that Dungeons should be doable by any group of individuals, as long as they can use teamwork. Your strategy is the epitome of said teamwork, but limited to those builds of those characters.

I love the dungeons so much. My guild works very well together, we all team constantly and run everything, and we cannot make it past the deluge of mobs on this particular path. I feel like something is being missed in the execution of this first part and I am just not seeing it.

On the PUG group I was we just smashed him down as soon as we started the dungeon, ignoring the adds. We did die afterwards but then rezzed and ran to the gate for 2nd boss.

You are absolutely correct. This was the only way we have been able to get through it without wiping the party. We have tried this dungeon time and time again to see if we can do it, and we’ve done it with several other group combinations. But more often than not, we have to have at least 1 guardian in order to hold the mobs back. There is just no other way of keeping the minions away.

You should be able to do any dungeon, any path, without a specific group makeup, and this is the only way our guild has managed to beat path 1 consecutively. We have to get on our alts to do the other paths, and then get on our mains for path 1. Its rediculous.

But how did you get past all the minion waves that followed you all the way to the second boss? Did you mass invis with mesmer? Did you go invisible with thief? The only way to lose aggro is to go invisible, So unless you were a whole team of norn with snow leopard form, i dont see how you all just made it past the adds. we went through at least 10-12 waves of adds getting to the second boss, all the while destroying the gates that prevent us from going any further.

I have to pull out my book for that part, because its just rediculous how much damage they do, and how much healing I have to do in order to keep the party up during this part of the dungeon.

And yes, we have thought out this part of the dungeon extremely well, we feel that any dungeon is do-able, but it has to be the right party make-up. Which really shouldnt be the case.

My pug groups have also just brute forced the 1st boss down with high DPS, then jumped in the lava and waited for the minions to despawn.

Then you simply run to the 2nd boss. Sit by the gate and you won’t aggro the adds. Adds will only follow you to the 2nd boss if you aggro them too close to the boss. If this happens, you just start running back the way you came until you lose aggro, wait a few seconds, then attempt to run to the boss again.

Yes gorge, but commiting suicide to get a quest completion should not be the answer.

Even path 2 CoF in the aptly named “room of sacrifice” our guild can do it no problem without leaving the room and “sacrificing” members.

You are way to specific on which classes to bring and what abilities to use. Dungeons should be doable with a bigger variety of party composition. It is nice that you have found a single setup that fixes the problem, but most people can’t find the party you are describing. I play a ranger does that mean i am not allowed to go there ever?

I have a video of it that my dedicated group just did. We hadn’t done it since the “fix” where you can’t hold one grenadier, and it was pretty rough.

But we managed to complete it in 21 min, 2 guard, 2 war, 1 mesmer group.

Yes strifey please do, we just attempted to do it last night again with a different group make up, and we failed horribly. the only way we can get past it is with our current group make up.

I pugged SE path 1 like 2 days ago without bugging it. It’s not that bad. We would let a patrol pass, run to the boss, kill him before the adds got out of hand, ran back to a safe spot, kill the adds we had currently. Rinse repeat until you’re past the endless waves.

Granted the path is probably really annoying without some good dps and at least 1 good support.

I have done this multiple times since the fix. As far as group make up, i recommend 2 melee for damage output. It is possible in a 5 range group, but it was noticeably harder.

If you cant make it through the waves, it is because you have dead weight on your team and they aren’t doing enough damage or supporting (ie. might, weaken, vuln NOT equipped a few weak heals). Problem is most players believe they do enough throwing out healing rain etc. but really they should be buff/debuffing.

Boss 1 – Pull 1 wave before you pull boss. 4 players stay on boss and dps (preferably aoe like grenades thief bow etc.) Use elites, I can’t stress this enough. It sounds stupid but most players do not use their elites till things get bad and too late. Use them early you can fit in 2 sometimes 3. One player stays on add patrol, typically melee. All players should have a stun break to avoid the pull/aoe.

Loot boss and keep pushing.

Boss 2 – again kill one wave before boss pull. This time run through boss to other side behind him and fan out. This will reset boss and minions. You will sometimes get a wave but it allows most waves to just go pass to other side. Just burn him down and shoot singularities. Cond remove confuse.

Loot clear the mine bots and roll over mines to remove.

Boss 3 – You can’t pull off to the tunnel on left anymore. I have had good luck with pulling 1 to the tunnel entering the boss room though. Thief is ideal but other classes can bleed/stealth. Kill like before simple fight. If you have no way to pull still pull back as one usually will come closer than the others and you can simply range dps furthest foward for a long time before other 2 become threat. Avoid air pockets by strafing. Save dodges for flame volley.

Loot and goto last room.

Boss 4- they added minion to the boss. Pull him out alone and kill him in the robot room. He summons adds too just kill when they pop. The big aoe is caltrops so avoid when you can. Kill easy. Last boss is the same with adds in mix. Just kill like before. The only way to die is to not dodge his aoe greatsword mesmer attack.

Run is still fast, it just can’t be done for free anymore.

When my guild did this path in explorable a few days ago, we didn’t even kill the adds. Mind you, we died once the first boss died due to the accumulation of them (not to mention a few times after trying to learn the rest of the instance), but we figured it wasn’t worth the trouble when we realized they simply don’t stop spawning. For the second boss, we fought right by the door and the spawns would not aggro before they began to run down their normal route, and the ones we trained to the boss simply reset by the time we got to the ramp. The only trouble there is dealing with the singularities, but it’s a hell of a lot easier than dealing with any add spawns. Everything past that point should be doable by any group.

On a side note, the fact that there is no waypoints in this path is a joke. Quite frankly this path is one of the worst pieces of content I’ve come across in Guild Wars 2; it is really in a sorry state that is not suitable for a live build.

On a side note, the fact that there is no waypoints in this path is a joke. Quite frankly this path is one of the worst pieces of content I’ve come across in Guild Wars 2; it is really in a sorry state that is not suitable for a live build.

You gotta try Arah Path 1 lol, you’ll come to realize how nice this waypoint is compared to the ones there ;o

My groups first run of it:

It went a little rough, there are a couple things I’d probably do different next time.

1. After you kill the first barrier, instead of killing the first wave, jump over to the ledge to let them pass like you used to do for the first wave of grenadiers. This gives you more time to focus down the first golem boss before another wave comes. Also make sure to focus down the golem as fast as possible. After that just run to each barrier like we did instead of killing each wave.

2. I haven’t tried it, but I’m wondering if you can leash the last boss and kill the champion separately.

Managed to do this path today with the group I regularly do dungeons with, we just powered straight through fighting every wave. Couple of members had to swap characters to get past the 2nd platform.

We had 3 guardians, a warrior and a support specced elementalist. I can’t really see powering through this path without a well optimized team.

i am a Guardian myself, but barely have had the chance to run with other Guardians. that being said, i truly believe that all combos should work for any dungeon, just perhaps some more efficient than others. for any given scenario.

will have to give this a shot again. just yesterday we did path 3 no problem. then went ahead and did path 1 and we kept wiping. we were able to take out some waves before the next one showed but, but we got bottlenecked at the first Boss. guess it was a good DPS check though, as it was literally a red sea come crashing down on us.

will have to relook our combinations, builds and stratgy.

Just saying we did SE 1 without glitching as well. Our tactic was running 3 guardians, 1 warrior, and 1 mesmer. We literally paid no attention to tactics and literally zerged through all the mobs. The deaths occurred was someone fell off the cliff, one person was eating and playing at the same time, and typing to chat. The way it worked out was we had endless stability so we could power through the golem boss without any problem. I can provide a video of us doing is if anyone is interested. It took us 20 minutes to finish the path in the end even though we don’t really know what we are doing since all of us haven’t done SE in ages; it feels we did it in 20 minutes with almost no strategy was because all 5 of us understand and play our class really well as well as all of us are correctly geared for the dungeon.

This brings to my next point which is Anet stated that dungeon are do-able with any group of people. We tried to do it again with 5 squishies and we just couldn’t. The reason is there is not enough stability to prevent the golem from pulling and the 5 target AoE limit really hurt our AoE set ups. Pretty much we concluded, heavy classes are NEEDED to do this even if the group manages to avoid some of the respawns. We’re willing to give 5 clothies another try, will update progress later.

Just soloed this on my war, the amount of “creativity” used…

Just skipped everything to second boss. Killed it without it even fighting back. WPed back and destroyed first barrier (stopped patrols). Killed first boss (inquest around were green for some reason). Destroyed barriers. Stacked stability to run through mine-field. Killed poison- and fire-golem without them even fighting back. Killed electric-golem. Killed Tazza without even fighting back. And then I won!

Took plenty of time to figure out how to but nothing really impressive.

I tried PUGing SE path 1 this weekend after watching Strifey’s video but we failed. Our group consisted of 2x Guardian, 1 Necro, 1 Ele, and 1 Warrior.

We did manage to kill the first boss after a few tries. Basically we had to kill his adds, run away to the ledge off the side and lose aggro (if someone had aggro at this point they jumped into the lava). Then we ran back again and just barely killed the boss (I think only one or two of us was still alive). Then we gathered at the ledge again and ran the gauntlet killing all the barriers. We made it to the second boss but could never get the full group to the safe side alive. The two squishy’s would almost always die running to the second boss or die right after getting there. Two of us weren’t ready to give up but the rest of the group had it at that point and bailed.

I think that if the patrols spawned less frequently or if they were regular mobs this path would be slightly more PUG friendly. Plus a WP after the second or third boss!

my team got half way through this path the other night.

boss 1:
mesmer runs as far as possible toward the boss, drops portal at boss platform, then runs back without getting aggro (have to beat the first wave!). everyone waits for the right timing, and then port to the boss and burn it down asap.

thief then invis the whole party, and run through the waves of minions past the second boss to the rear door. burn through the barriers on the way but attack no other mobs.

fight second boss from behind spawns…
