Safespots and Exploits
I’ll be very clear here:
If a GM finds a player that is using a “Safe Spot”, that player will be moved out of the safe spot and warned (via in-game text). If they are caught again, that account will be temporarily suspended. If a GM finds a player that is using a “Safe Spot” and selling the dungeon run, that account will be temporarily suspended without warning.
If Anet is spending time and money on “hall monitors” I think that the focus has been grossly bent. Perhaps there should be more time/attention/money placed on fixing issues with this game that affect game play and not as a virtual police force banning people paying for and playing in an environment that the Developers did not fully vet – ie, QA testing with the mindset of a player instead of a developer.
First – straw man. It was never said that they have increased the monitoring of dungeons, only that GMs will respond if they see behavior they consider exploitive – with a WARNING.
Second – GMs and Developers are not the same. I doubt they are reassigning developers to be GMs, and money spent on GMs helps to keep the game healthy. In fact, there are other threads on this forum questioning why there aren’t more GMs in game to ban the botters, gold sellers and other ne’r do wells.
To everyone complaining about the “Dungeon Police” and how necessary/useful it is: Even World of Warcraft with its army of QA still used Game Masters to police their dungeons because problems will almost always slip through the cracks. Players in that game were afraid of exploiting because penalties were both harsh and swift, which helped maintain the integrity of the game.
It also changes people’s attitudes when finding a bug/exploit. When there’s no consequences, players will react to discovering bugs like this: “Let’s abuse it until they fix it!” instead of like this, “Maybe we shouldn’t abuse it because we might get banned.”

As mentioned by Dub. GM or Dev representation in EU is not that strong yet.
Hope you guys have some there aswell to check.
I can confirm this. The other day when I was in Arah path 3 with a guildmate to duo the path and sell, a GM popped out of nowhere while we were killing mobs to pass time while waiting for buyers to, how he put it, “check for bad things”.
I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing that GMs come in to check if sellers where using skips or the like.
But I agree with the people that pointed out, that the ressources could be spent on fixing these issues rather than just monitoring if they are abused or not.
I don’t think they’re going to fire GMs to hire more devs. Checking dungeons is probably a “down time” activity for the GMs when they’re not busy dealing with other more pressing matters. We asked for them to crack down, now they are, shouldn’t we be happy? I’d think we should/would, but the latest story still has a lot of us scratching our heads. If they can’t be upfront about what is and isn’t an exploit then it seems kinda bullkitten to see bans, let alone a perma ban like we saw (which was rightfully overturned into a temp one at least).
Some things that I’m quite sure fall under the category of exploits have become standard practice for PUG groups, they really need to be upfront and let us know that it’s going to be getting us warnings/bans if we use them… or… fix it.
Hello Chris, could you please elaborate how not exploiting is using a safespot twice, skipping the warning, moving to a permanent ban, to be made temporary after a kittenstorm ongoing?
Nobody should need a more detailed explanation of exploiting. As as you’re asking a question about how much or how often or how long then you probably know that what you’re doing is not entirely within the code of conduct.
Problem is that these “exploits” have been around for a year and when lots of people use them you will be at disadvantage when you don’t.
A lot of these “exploits” have been reported 18 months ago and still go “unfixed” and now there saying if you use them in the current “meta” you can be temp banned, LOL what a joke, great way to support the community, this is why I don’t run dungeons and or fractals, if the fights where not boring, and loot was not so shockingly poor, people wouldn’t stack to kill a boss in 5 seconds ( no one wants to spend 10 minutes max ranging a boss down ) or skip mobs, but no instead of fixing it we’ll just tell players they are not allowed to do that no more LOL.
