Scaled downgraded dung?
So Much Blur
I like the system as it is. I like that a level 80 with full trait set ups and exotic gear is more powerful than a level 35 in the same dungeon. I’ve also noticed that a level 35 is very close to the same effectiveness as most level 80s and it’s how you play that matters more than the other stuff (a skilled experienced level 35 in a dungeon will perform better than an unskilled and inexperienced level 80, but a level 80 will have much more breathing room when it comes to survivability and can accomplish things the level 35 won’t be able to).
I do agree there is a problem with bringing lower level people into dungeons. Honestly, I prefer to go with level 80s. I PuG and I want the smoothest possible experience knowing I face lots of stressful consequences of PuGing. Sometimes it goes smoothly, sometimes it’s a clusterkittened disaster that makes me want to chuck my monitor out the window. A full level 80 party is just one of those things I can put in the “Things that increase a chance for success” column. A level 35, while it’s possible can outperform a level 80, is just one of those things that increases the risk. If I know them and I know they can do the dungeon I have no problem bringing them and will even vouch for them. I think the onus is on a lower level person to deal with the issues facing them when it comes to trying to dungeons before reaching max level. I will often bring lower level people into dungeons, but I also accept when the party doesn’t want to do it – I won’t fight for them, but the party has a right to choose not to go with them and I’m not going to push it. If they are a friend I will work with them to find a group that will take them, that’s how it should be for all of them.
While I appreciate the increased difficulty of getting into groups when you’re not max level, there is a reason for it. To close this gap would be to reduce the benefits of being max level with better traits and gear in these dungeons and that’s not fair to the people who have earned some kind of statistical representation of character development. It also removes any casual hierarchy of dungeon difficulty (AC is arguably the easiest because even when downlevelled your stats are above average compared to Arah). The gap isn’t huge but it’s also not irrelevant. I like it that way. It’s not a huge ask to get to level 80 and if you really want to run dungeons before then you can deal with the increased difficulty of finding a tolerant group or privately form one and run with friends or guildies.
The problem with making it better for lower level people is that it takes away from the max level people, and they are the ones who earned that place. Honestly, I don’t think dungeons were designed for lower levels at all so I would argue that min level people are not the “correct” levelled people. The gear is almost completely irrelevant once you’ve earned enough tokens, and even if it was relevant you will very quickly replace it with greens. Any substantial time investment in a lower level character is simply not worth it given how fast you level in this game. If ArenaNet was looking at how dungeons interact with lower level characters I would start looking at dungeon rewards for those levels before I even touched the downlevelling system. Currently it’s pretty clear explorable mode dungeons are for level 80s with the option of running them earlier than that to kick start your gear farm.
I agree with most of what u’v said. Here’s some adds:
-An lvl 80 in a 25-30 zone will 2-3 hit anything in its path. For me its just OK, i can farm the Hearts and Stuff for World Complet without having to play the game toushand times.
-An lvl 80 will be stronger and more complete in WvWvW, dungeons, money and any content u can imagine.
So….of course lvl 80 will be better in all kinda stuff, u have worked hard to get to it.
Anet says: “Now we will make a way that max level can play with their friends an still have a challenge, cause hes level will be rescaled to the area level”.
Game experienxe says: If i go to a low lvl zone with my friend in a group i can power lvl him very easy cause of the speed/kill rate i got.
If i go to a Dungeon with a “correct” level PUG u will mostly kick him in the third boss when he dies again in one shot.
People trying to story mode will plea to guildies to help them, cause SM dont give a **** reward for anyone, so no one that already done it want to do it again.
My point: The “downgrade system” is not working properly or if it is, its a big fail. Cause 80 are still OP in low levels and low players are still the “noob” from partys.
My advice: About Dung make it a way where it will scale according to total level of players.
Make it a decent reward for helping others with SM.
Make above things to let our Alts and New players enjoy the game without the stress of leveling right to 80 a must have.
Its easy to level, and thats why u know u can rush to 80. And thats why when we get to 80 we go bored, we actually skipped the whole content, the feeling of completing each dung, each path, each history in a good pace knowing that wer not “losing” anything by doing it without power level.
A simple code: Total level of players = X/400, where 400 is full Dungeon power.
And a: SM reward also gives 60 tokens for first time complete each day for repeaters.
Encourage people to use your content, Anet

I’m reading so many mixed things. What is your goal of a dungeon?
Is it to blitz though it with ease so that all of your characters can have exotic armor and weapons within a few weeks? Or is it to actually be challenged in the dungeon and work hard for those exotic armor and weapons. Right now there is tons and tons of characters walking around in exotic armor. There’s no challenge for a group of level 80 characters. ArenaNet might as well change the exotic weapons and armor to regular merchants and put a low price tag on them.
Wearing exotic weapons and armor are suppose to signify how much time and effort you put into them. That yes it was a challenge but you completed it and you have the outfit to show it.
If ArenaNet expected all explorable dungeons to be completed at level 80 then they would have marked them all level 80 dungeons. Since they are not marked that there is a problem with the scaling. Making the dungeon harder so that groups of level 80s can’t farm them isn’t going to fix the problem. I know (because we did it last night) that having a group of 3 level 80’s a level 74 and a level 30 in the ac story mode makes a huge difference. The level 80’s could take heat from the mobs, they could heal themselves, and they had way more options in their builds then the poor level 30. He couldn’t take 1 shot from anyone, all we did was rez him. Does this make people not want to take the appropriate level character’s into the dungeon’s??? You bet.
I agree that something needs to be done. I would suggest that if you really want that special armor for characters then you need to work for it. The dungeons should be re-tested and the level of the dungeons made so that a group of level 35’s (assuming ac here) can complete the dungeon between 1.5 and 2 hours. No matter what your level is you would be scaled down to level 35. Mean all your special armor would have the defense of level 35 armor and all you runes would become minor runes, and you would only have 24 trait points to play with. (Maybe you could reset them when you enter the dungeon and they would automatically reset to what you had when you leave the dungeon)
I’m not a programmer or anything so I don’t even know if that’s possible to do, but I do know that there is a big difference between a group of 35’s and a group of 80’s in a level 35 dungeon.
Another option would be to just mark all dungeon’s explorable mode level 80 and make story mode easier for a group of level appropriate players. I’m not sure what you can do to make people want to help other people with story mode. If it’s made easier so that a group of level appropriate players could complete it then you can’t add tokens because then it will just be farmed. Maybe just making is super easy but more difficult then the world around it would be enough to get people to help other people.
