In current state of dungeons everyone is skipping most of the dungeon just to get tokens in the end. Nobody cares for something like fun and if you wipe in AC half of your party will leave with words “lol wipe in AC waste of time”. I simply dont like this and as simple solution i would add something like dungeon progress for killing creeps along the way and if you get like 90% of dungeon kills you would get all tokens if not you would for example get just half or something like that.

I like alot of players get bored of trash after running it 5-6 times so we skip alot of it. Ill kill all the trash but doing every run just is not fun.

except that I’ve gotten yellows and lodestones from those “trash” mobs.

I personally never skip and even state while looking for group that I won’t skip. Skipping is just losing out on loot.

Except that’s once in a blue moon. I skip in regular dungeons but never in Fractals which I do much more of. I think in my entire time doing Fractals (500+ Fractals complete, Lv.30 on 2 characters) I’ve gotten 1 exotic drop and maybe 3 Lodestones from mobs that I didn’t have to kill.

A guildie got Dawn from a risen while doing I don’t remember what in Cursed Shore. Yet I never ever found an exotic drop from a monster.
That’s the beauty of random drops. Some are lucky, some aren’t and some can craft Plague and the Bloodstone fragment after doing p4 only once.

If you are the kind of person to go into calculations and finding what is the fastest way to make cash, you’ll notice that killing trash mobs takes a lot of time and have a low chance of giving anything worthy.
In CoE and CoF, maybe you can get something interesting. But in AC ? not a lot of thing that are worth the time.

(This doesn’t mean that I am a skipping dictator, I follow whatever the group wants to do).

you’re unlucky. 5 exotics dropped in fractals (done only up to level 13, ran only like 100 or so), it’s normally yellow galore though.
Now if blues and greens drop in dungeons – play the mystic toilet. Got only like 2 drops of exotics in dungeons, got lots of yellows once again though. A run normally guarantees 1 to 5 yellows and I get them from trash mobs.

time taken normally depends on the group. CoF so far is the easiest dungeon (at last p1 and p2) and it takes what 6 minutes to complete with skipping, 15 without? However when the talk comes to HotW, Coe, TA skipping can take longer than a normal run due to squishy professions not being able to survive the run to the boss. I suppose it’s all about preference really.

Very few people is bothered by this.

You are obviously new, so you haven’t hit the point in repetition where you are just there for the most lucrative part, the 60 daily tokens. The trash mobs are just obstacles. People that are capable can skip trash to save time as a reward for their knowledge of the dungeon. People that want to farm them can farm them. People that are having trouble skipping can take the safe approach and clear them.

Suggesting “fixing” it like some problem is simply forcing your opinion on everyone else. Instead, look at the developers and ask them to change the dungeon designs to offer real incentive to kill trash mobs, which there is few if any currently.

Nothing is broken, therefore, nothing needs fixed. If you like killing trash, more power to you. I have no problem with people that want to kill trash but stop trying to ram your playstyle down everyones throat.

Its been stated a lot on forums but trash mob drops aren’t worth the time it takes to clear them especially considering most of them have a lot of hp for trash. And people experienced in a particular dungeon dont have much difficulty skipping thru trash mobs. Sometimes it can get tricky in TA. I have an easier time getting past trash mobs in Arah than in a certain spot in TA.

It’s one of those human things to do something with the path of least resistance and danger, especially when there is a reward at the end. I could make enemies never drop their aggro on players and force them to fight every single mob, but I don’t see that as a viable solution right now.
I think the better solution is to look at why people are skipping things, and approach from a different angle. Trash mobs have too much HP, and can’t be counted on for lucrative drops from a Risk/Time vs Reward, so people interested in making money (most groups) aren’t incentivized to do it, whereas the end chest/boss are more guaranteed and accountable returns on time and risk. I also think there is something to be said about interesting trash mob mechanics making them more enjoyable of a fight.
I can’t make the rewards from trash mobs so lucrative though that people just farm the first couple trash mobs/boss in a dungeon and then rinse/repeat. We encountered this when people just farmed the first boss in an instance and then restarted it (earlier around launch time), and we had to adjust the content as a result. It’s a fine line you have to walk to encourage players to get to the end, but make the process of getting there rewarding enough as well.

I don’t imagine this next update will resolve all the skipping behavior. The path of least resistance is engrained in people, and even if I do everything I could to incentivize people, there will still be those who skip stuff. I have been fixing exploits that will require players to complete more of the events in dungeons, but I am sure people will still skip what they can to get to their end goal.

For now I would encourage those not looking to skip to find some folks who don’t like skipping and make a guild with them… or maybe look for guilds that are dedicated to not skipping, and tag along with them. I’m in a couple of them (anonymously), and it really is an effective solution to playing the game the way you want to play it: Find other people with similar interests and band together with them.

The devs have picked their battles, and discouraging skipping isnt one of them. Find like minded players or deal with it. That’s all there is to it.

You don’t entertain solutions if you intend to keep things as they are.

It’s true, that post doesn’t seem interested in taking a hardline stance against skipping, but that’s not the same thing as holding the practice sacrosanct. It just seems to be trying to control matters by encouraging people to fight trash instead of discouraging people to skip.

Positive reinforcement instead of negative reinforcement,
but intentions to change the situation all the same.

Just because you don’t find it fun does not mean everyone else does not find it fun.

This has been discussed over and over again on this forum. Skipping is a legit way to do a dungeon and you won’t stop them. The solution was always the same ( has even been said by a dev ): If you wan’t to kill everything, find a group that want’s to kill everything. If you wan’t to skip everything, find a group that want’s skip everything.

I will admit what Robert said about gamers finding the path of least resistance is quite true. But however I believe the motivations behind why ppl skip is not just attributed to mere human nature.

I speak for myself but I believe there are some in the same situation as me. I use dungeons as main method of gaining gold and chest loot, and is aiming to get a legendary. However, a trip down to the TP and you can see the pricing of some of well-sought after mats (Precursors, Lodes etc). And those prices are not static. They are increasing as time goes on.

As a result, I have to run dungeons in a way to get the gold needed for items I want. And the rate of earning gold HAVE to be higher than the rate of price increase of the items I want. Skipping is a makes dungeoning more time-efficient, to squeeze more runs into whatever playtime I have.

I understand that some of items are purely cosmetics and that they are not required to play the game. However, it is still something I desire and want to progress towards. And dungeons are still enjoyable to me despite running them countless times. I just purchased Dusk off the TP very recently and skipping takes no small part in my ability to do so.

Skipping seems natural. I’ve skipped every time I’ve gone in AC. It’s like running around in Orr, do I stop and fight every single mob? Heck no, I run right past all of them, agro or not. Why wouldn’t I do the same in a dungeon?

My skipping has nothing to do with trying to finish the run faster and get more tokens/loot (I don’t really care that much, it’s not like there’s anything great to get). But why fight uninteresting and annoying trash when I don’t have to?

If it was more lucrative to clear trash then people would. There drops just aren’t there so it makes more sense to skip and get to bosses which are where the money is at.

I have nothing against skipping and I do a lot of COF speed runs myself.

however I do believe that not skipping in a dungeon should be more rewarding. Maybe make the chest drops from bosses more rewarding if you have killed the trash mobs in the way? Maybe give dungeon trash mobs a higher chance of dropping black lion keys? Who knows really but I do feel like theres a lot of wasted potential when people just run past half a dungeon

Even though I generally run dungeons by skipping most/all trash, I too have nothing against groups that want to kill trash. I started running dungeons about a month after launch and even up to point I completed my 2 characters with dungeon skins, I was still doing full clears.

I believe newcomers should at least give full clear dungeons a chance. At least experience the content in its…. entirety I guess. However, there are also gamers like myself who have basically ran dungeons to the ground. Our priorties changed and we run dungeons with different purposes in mind.

Grouping with like-minded ppl to run dungeons really just makes the experience more enjoyable.

Hi Guys,

Apologies for what may be considered an off topic post, but I am looking for a dungeon running guild on Gandara EU running dungeons with a minimum of skipped content:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/guilds/guilds/Seeking-PvE-Guild-on-Gandara-EU/first#post1271638

I did have a look through the guild section, but I could not find any posts regarding what I was after so I thought to have a go here.

Again, I do apologize this is slightly off topic, but would appreciate any response and hope the Anet gods do not punish me too much! Thanks in advance.

I think skipping mobs is not the problem…
Theirs always a case when a new comer is in your party….

A good expierieced Group knows exactly when to help out wat skills to use when a party members fallen behind or when their in trouble."l’ve seen som amazing Groups in dungeons.

But a bad group even in speed rooms…lve seen lots of cases where it took even longer then the casual normal runs.
