“Seriously, just dodge.”
I have fought a myriad of diabolical monstrosities and creatures. Everything from Giant Dragons from WoW to Hutt Mercenary Bosses and their droids in SWTOR. Titanic Beasts far and wide!
But I was certainly not prepared to see This as a possible raid encounter.
I have no words, I…I think this is one of those things you never wanted until it came into existence.
Well. Played.
I have to confess that we really, really enjoyed plotting today’s reveal.
It has 10 Googolplexplexplex HP and you have 8 minutes to try to kill it, and all it’s friends, before it ‘burps backwards’, kills everyone and nukes LA.
Well i assume the boss is going to be a huge joke.
At the end of the fight it accidentally attacks itself and falls to its death from a tree?
Well i assume the boss is going to be a huge joke.
What makes you think so?
Well i assume the boss is going to be a huge joke.
What makes you think so?
Because it’s huge and a sloth? :^)
Seriously, tis true we can’t assume it’ll be a joke just because it looks like an encounter from HelloKittyOnline. Hope spoj will be wrong.
Holy kitten! I actually saw this years ago in a dream! So it’s true, I can see the future!
I’ll be interested to see how this fits into the lore… because based on what i’ve seen so far… it doesn’t… at all…
I’ll be interested to see how this fits into the lore… because based on what i’ve seen so far… it doesn’t… at all…
And Risen Orrian Gorillas made any more sense back at release? Seriously, if we can make a Gorilla boss fit into the lore we can make a Sloth boss fit just fine.
I thought it was a prank or a joke post of some kind, with increasing desperation as I kept digging the internet for evidence… Guess I can’t be in denial any longer.

I don’t see any connection between what a boss looks like and how difficult it is

Erm “The Melandru’s Home for Wayward Gorillas” was a major landmark in Orr.. L2Lore.
I just hope the sloth involves psychic powers or something as part of the encounter because the whole concept of being physically assaulted by a sloth is pretty bad.
Their entire metabolism prevents them from physical exertion, so outside of explaining it away with magic powers a sloth swiping at people is silly.
good thing the bloodstone and ley energy are all around to provide a bunch of random magic power!
I dont know about you guys. But i feel difficult raid bosses should be designed to be intimidating. Wing 1 didnt do a great job on that either. Only Gorseval excelled in that department. I cant take something like this seriously. And as much as i like comedy in some areas of the game. I dont think this is the right place to do it. The adds also bother my OCD. Mixing a mammal with a grub. And not even making it look right…. It looks like an edit with paint.
And ill repeat what i said last night. Nice to see anets boss design is representative of their current state of the game.
Call me a negative nancy. But it seems anet is only capable of making jokes right now.
inb4 it’ll be Korga 2.0 with the base speed of a bugged Korga.
What I really want to know though… Is there actually any lore behind this boss?
In before not only Slothasor completely wrecks newcomers, the last boss of wing 2 is the murderboss of mass destruction and wreckage.
It’s not only if the boss is dangerous or not, he also should look and feel like a boss. I mean, who wants to fight some teddy bears if he could also fight a dangerous looking dragon or some other monsters?^^
Erm “The Melandru’s Home for Wayward Gorillas” was a major landmark in Orr.. L2Lore.
Erm… That’s exactly my point. There will be similar, equally-justifying lore for Slothasor.
This better be a joke, and it’s not even a good one. =/
I don’t think it’s so bad. It’s a jungle, it doesn’t all need to be lizards and dragons and undead.
Don’t knock it till you try it.
GW2 has far more serious issues than whether you like a sloth as a boss.
Such as this game becoming ever more like a godkitten casino, treating players like wallets with miserable class balancing rate, bare boned content updates every half year, kitten poor rewards with those few good ones hidden behind immense gold gates or RNG gates. Most cosmetics gated behind the cash shop or the gamble boxes sold in said cash shop.

It’s just inappropriate to make a raid boss a joke – wrong place to do that imo
Not rly sure why the design matters so much. As long as it has fun mechanics I don’t mind at all. :P
Character design is hugely important. Creating an intimidating boss adds a sense of danger, urgency and excitement to the fight. Fighting a giant cute thing completely takes that away.
Why do you think Gorseval is so popular? Because its both intimidating, overwhelming and has decent fight mechanics that make it challenging.
Sure i dont mind joke bosses in some areas of the game. They can be amusing in their own way. But raids are so infrequently released and are supposed to be the top end of difficulty. Id rather not see stuff which could hardly be called serious.
That said. I will take back everything if anet manage to somehow make him intimidating. For example he morphs during the fight into a grotesque beast (angry quaggan type thing). Or Mordremoths corruption or other magic causes him to explode/mutate into something else. The adds however are a joke. I seriously hope those are not what we are going to see.

I was just talking about this with some friends of mine.
I mean, it is a sloth beast, but why does it have Slugminions?
I think it might phase into some more eldritch looking…Innocent at first but it gets ruthless as the fight progresses is my train of thought.
I think it’s alright!
Don’t judge a book by it’s appearance, maybe he is amazingly designed.
We’ll see.

Doesnt matter if its amazingly designed if i cant stop laughing. Or fawning over the cute monster trying to maul my team.
Or you can laugh at the sight of your unaware teammates get slaughtered by the cute things. Anyone remember the Angry Chicken in Ebonhawk? Or Champion Rabbit in Uncategorized Fractal? My reflex taught me not to go into their range without a backup plan. Good thing the latter has too low HP to be a threat.

I… guess. For me Gorseval is the most enjoyable fight too but it doesn’t have much to do with how it looks. :P It’s the mechanics that make or break a fight for me.
The name “Slothasor” reminds me of “Saloth Sar”…. in the jungle too…
Cute and deathly. Just like it should be.
Maybe at 66% its head explodes and we see tentacles sprouting out of it ?
Why does he have to even do anything? Just add enough health and a very tight enrage timer.
I’m not a huge fan of the design either. Sure, it’s funny and good for a laugh, but i don’t really want my raid bosses to be making me laugh when they could be making me intimidated or think “oh, that’s really cool” to myself. Those minions are all kinds of pathetic too, their faces look like stretched jpegs.
It is low pixelated, it looks like they are just trolling us a bit. But even if it is true, I don’t care as long as it has good fighting mechanics and loot.
Is this a joke? Why all mmo have epic boss while anet give us a sloth boss in next raid …
I really hope it’s a joke … I try to defend anet in his choices for years, but this is too much.
Please wake up anet, you will continue to lose your players …

I mean…..
You fight Sabetha, basically an enlargened average human female model with no distinct armor or features, let alone much of a backstory.
This raid doesn’t make much sense storywise to begin with.

nobody said sabetha is a good design tho. its like queensdale flashbacks, but plz sloth, and I thought it couldn’t get any worse
(it makes sense storywise. its a jungle, of course there are wild animals and rogue ppl)

Well, yeah, but the story for these bosses is not that fleshed out. Good raids and their bosses not only have the ambiance, but characters that have a good backstory.
Even when WoW fails to establish a boss by ingame dialogue, the dungeon journal explains to you who this boss is and why he’s there, what’s his pecking order in that instance, etc.
And games like Wildstar outright show you why bosses are there and who they are.
Guild Wars 1 did well like these games, but GW2 after the explorable dungeons were wholly abandoned just gave us bosses with no backstory whatsoever.

I never said Sabetha was an epic boss, I hate her … Interesting fight ok, but ugly as hell and no presence. VG and Gorseval are good. But I’ve a question, where are the devs who created Dhuum, Mallyx ? Ok Mallyx was a big gorrila, but scary and epic … We just want this kind of boss, big, beautiful and epic. Not a simple sloth.

That’s not a simple sloth. Look at his eyes. There is clearly Satan himself inside that sloth.
I understand a Sloth boss but these slothminion things with sloth head and grub body seems more like a joke. why not just miniature version of the boss?
I wonder if that thing can even Enrage.
I’m more worried about it putting himself to sleep profoundly in front of the exit.
I think it’s going to be like snorelax. There is going to be a huge break bar you have to get through quickly or it goes to sleep and it regains all health.
But watch out for hyper beam.
Pretty obvious:
1st Boss: Sid
2nd Boss: Diego
3rd Boss: Manni
