So why are AH guardian builds...
Unfortunately shout Warriors and shout Guardians are not needed with the current design of PvE encounters. Most people seem to favoring full damage or damage + some extra sustain mixed in, only sacrificing as little damage as they can. Most incoming damage from dungeons and fractals is going to come in big spike damage, so it doesn’t matter what you trait/gear for, as long as you can dodge, or at least survive one hit so you can get out.
I’d like it if encounters required at least a little bit of party healing. They got rid of the holy trinity so you wouldn’t have to rely on healers and tanks, but created a new problem. You need to do a lot of damage and keep yourself alive to be useful. Suppot, tanks, healers? Not needed.
Because one was deemed acceptable by a respected theory-crafter, and the other was not. Most people are sheep, they’ll accept what they’re told and not give it any second thought. As it is, I think both are kind of lame.
This
Also supply and demand as well… There’s more supply of both Warrior players and viable Warrior builds in PvE than there is supply of Guardians & sustained non-conditional DPS Builds for Guardians. IE: it’s all relative. Guardians basically get a free pass b/c they can provide a few seconds of top lel support & sustain without dedicating their whole build to it like Rangers, Engies, etc… have to.
…yeah… it’s basically just Anet’s balance team being hypocrits and I don’t mind b/c it benefits my primary class (which makes me a hypocrite too and I don’t care).

They better hurry up and start running this. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Dungeon-Leeching-build/first#post2505641

Yes, people are sheep. It took only a few posts disapproving AH builds and judging by this thread alone, the community considers them now to be more trash than MF builds.

I’ve been bashing AH builds since November.
OK, so people are sheep in game. And I’m pretty sure you are sheep in other things in life. So we are all sheep. Happy?
Sheep sheep here & sheep sheep there. Sheep sheep everywhere.
I like my AH Zerker/Knights guardian. I usually use him for pugs if I’m tired/had a long day and/or want to eat while playing. AH is the way to go

Exactly, it’s a lazy build that requires no effort to play and lowers skill level.

I live in New Zealand. There are indeed sheep everywhere.

Oh?
I have to refrain myself not to say a word.
There are definitely situations where an ah tank build outweighs the new meta zerker builds, and what I think many of you are forgetting here is that are more than 3 classes in this game, not everyone goes Mesmer, Warrior, Guardian in a perfect 20: 60: 20 ratio, in non “arian race” gaming there are a great deal of possibilities for what your teammates are and how they play, and i don’t think anyone here is really going to argue the point that a solid 5 group of max dps builds won’t complete a run faster than a mismatched group of unfamiliar players.
That said, those of us not in a top 20 guild of top level players find ourselves in different positions, and especially in dungeons like arrah and FC when not running with that master race squad some compensations need to be made.
AH offers alot of buffer room for less than ideal groups to actually complete a dungeon rather than just get angry and start rage kicking half way through. I usually run with my guild mates, in a random, whoever happens to be on and ready, mixture of all 8 classes, often ending ending up as the only heavy class present,
In this situation The AH Gardian is ( My prefernece is GS/staff) a vastly superior choice because it allows the best crowd control abilities and by no means modest damage dealing to large groups of enemies around you. This is amplified further when running with necros because minions can recieve boons as well which gives you excellent healing as well as extreme might stacking for your entire party, even though they are 50 feet behind you railing concentrated aoe into the condenced group of enemies you’ve created.
For crowd control, trash mobs, buff distribution, and keeping your party alive, ah is the unquestionably superior build when you’ve got light squishies backing you up, I have run both builds with the same party, and whatever dps i personally sacrifice going to ah, is more than made up for by the party contribution it allows via might stacking and increased crit damage (retributive armor is 7% now instead of 5%)
my current build varies based on where we’re headed, but my dungeon build is nearly always 0/0/30/30/10 or 0/15/30/20/5 alternating between knight with soldier runes, soldier with dolyak, and zerker with scholar. even though, if i do happen to get with that magical mes, guard, warrior, warrior, warrior group, then it’s zerker domination time
My point is, there isn’t one build that makes the others useless, so gear up and game on, do it all,
Good job bringing a 7 month old thread back.
This topic has been discussed to death, AH works, it’s viable, but by no means optimal, and anyone who so much as cares about their own performance in runs should never be using a crutch like this.
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
Stability and Protection boon is way more useful than a measley 4.5k heal.
EDIT: Didn’t know how old this topic is.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
Wow, this is back when I was still using AH. I made the switch to meta and I’m 10x the player I was while using AH. AH made me lazy, I never had to learn any mechanics. It also held me back from excelling at the game. Crutch is an appropriate term.
I saw this at the top of the dungeon forum and I thought to myself…
“In a last ditch effort to avert the tide of logic, the casuals began to necro illogical threads! ‘Go go shout heals! AH 4ever!’ Whatever will our elitist heroes do?”

Game over, yo.
Reading the first page of this thread made me giggle a bit

That was a long time ago.
To be fair, a character with higher Toughness can be useful in some situations.
Actually, the main one is the first champions fight of the Harpie fractal where you want to pull the Ettin away from the party. In that specific situation I find it works out well.
But usually you do seem to be better off with 5 zerkers. And zerker guardian hits like a truck AND is incredibly utilitous.
How is toughness useful here? All you do is kite an ettin in circles so the rest of the party can freely fight the shaman. Little to no damage unless you don’t dodge or block.
EDIT: Oh… 7 months ago. kitten.
Nevermind.
AH is a bad crutch. Specially staffhumping AH guards. Its up there with bearbow as terrible builds you see too often.
