Solo Lupi
It’s not used on melee range so you have to get back to him fast.
and what is the melee range? Because I’m standing right next to him.
the melee range is the little red circle around lupi’s feet =)
so i must be inside that red circle?
no, if you stand inside that circle lupicus will move (moving lupi/pushing lupi)
you just have to stand at the edge of that red circle

The bubble range is a bit bigger than edge of red circle. That’s for the rapid fire thingy.
you can stand inside the red circle if you have him on the wall and you’re facing the wall.
On a non-wall, that’s supposed to move him.
It is possible on a non-wall not to trigger this, as have others have said, to be on the edge of the red circle.
for phase 3 if you run inside him, he will move to reposition himself and then stop, that is the magic melee range that prevents him from using the dome/bubble/necrid trap attack. If you wall him, you can be inside him since he can’t move backwards to reposition himself. Being inside him prevents him from using his aoe barrage attack. Innuendos intended..

There is a sweet spot, where you’re close enough that he won’t dome but far enough that you won’t push him. Keep practicing and you’ll find it.
If you’re on warrior, a good way to determine perfect melee range is to Rush (gs5) him. You won’t hit him, but where you stop moving forward is the correct melee range as to not push him. (At that time, you can switch to axe/sword) OR, if you don’t care about your time/dps, just eviscerate him and where you land is just right.
What class are you using?
Once lupi goes up into the air you should get out of the red circle. The trick is to get back into melee as fast as possible. For a War you can just trait for +25% movement speed, guard can just use sword 2 or GS 3 and so on.
Once you get back in to melee range the trick is to not move.
Dodge the leech move + aoe and then stand still b4 he finished his animation.
Like the others said, keep practicing
