Sorrows Embrace - why nobody plays path 2?
SE p2 is one of the few dungeons that I occasionally (rarely) do outside of Arah. I find the others too short. I’m the type that likes longer “harder” content (I think aetherpath is great). If you’re on NA and see me online sometime (usually after midnight, EST), send me a whisper – its good for me to get out of Arah every once in awhile. Also, if you can’t get a group on the lfg, SE2 is soloable. I find it best to just do the path yourself, but keep the lfg up in case someone eventually wants to join.
It gets bugged easily. Otherwise it’s a decent challenge.

Because its longer, has an annoying time gate, bugs easily and the final boss is a pug killer.
we do it in our dungeontours and its actualy good loot once you know how to avoid most bugs >.<
It gets bugged easily. Otherwise it’s a decent challenge.
This is the primary reason. I’ll do it with experienced guild groups, but it’s too easy to get stuck.
You can completely negate the chance of bugging by killing the elites accompanying the champs before the last champion dies. Has never bugged for me after my parties started doing so.
Point is: as a result I wont be able to play with nobody but few wannabe elitistic, hardcore grinders totaly addicted to this game with ascended gear equipped to the teeth which I really hate in game because they only play with builds from web and cant do anything else besides raising ach. points above 15k and are still noobs. Most of gamers I meet in game are like 1,500-3000 achievement points noobs who just learned how to survive personal story and are not fit for dungs requiring more than auto-attacking mobs (you can find those in Ascalonian catacombs, CoF).

Of course it is easy as fart for me to do SE p2 but for everyone else its super hard. You see people are blocking my progress. Its just sadly ridiculous that people could spent 3hours in GW1 in dung nowhere near stage 3 final boss and enjoying with heroes HM battles but ppl refuse to do 30minutes dungeon run in GW2 Europe megaserver.
Everyone but you is kitten and bad at the game for not wanting to do SE p2 and you’re the biggest pro of them all who could finish the path with 2 fingers in his kitten .
I just don’t do it because I find it boring aside from the last boss. Too many trash mobs to kill and I would rather AFK or do something else besides it, no other reason really.
I think most people don’t do it because it’s not widely known for pugs, making the path too far out of their comfort zone. The same thing for cof p3 usually and aetherpath.
I ran that path solo last week, took about 2 hours but I did learn a lot. Here are my top reasons why I would never run P2 with a pug:
- The DPS pressure from dredge is too high, need high reflect uptime to sustain.
- The constant CC spam by dredge is too annoying, need high stability uptime to mitigate.
- Blinds don’t work, required to bring the two above to mitigate.
- For reflects, mesmer alone is not enough, wardens die to splash damage too fast.
To do this path “fast” and “smooth” requires good active defenses as well as high dps output to avoid sustaining. Judging by my past experience (daily pug runs for past 1.5 years), my guess would be that only 10% of pugs will actually meet the criteria above, meaning only 10% of the runs will be enjoyable. Nobody wants to repeatedly run a path with such low chances of being smooth. To increase that chance pugs will need to actually change and adapt their builds/comps and we already know the chances of that happening….
Took me an hour to babysit my guild group through SE p2 with Teamspeak. No wipe. But the pressure is tremendous. My throat was sore from micromanaging each member of the group.
I like the path, if it weren’t for the bugs I’d probably do it more often, but those are annoying. My first win though was with a water camping staff Ele, 2 thieves that couldn’t/wouldn’t stealth, and something else that was not much help. IIRC about 2 hours to get through. Since then the majority of my attempts have ended in a bugged path, so I’ve just left it out of the things I want to do. If they’d fix the bugs it’d probably be high up there on my favorite paths.
Carry on guard, you can even solo the last ranged boss. And WoR all the mobs to death with Save yourselves as a source of fury. I dragged a guildie and some random pugs through it, you can say “stand here” then manage the rest of the battle with utilities.
Personally for me the main reason I don’t run this path more often is that in the usual paths people have idea what to do and tend to have somewhat dps focused builds. In SE p2 all you get are folks that want the dungeon master title and the last 2 golem mechanic just blows their mind.
because for people who do dungeons for gold, it is just too long…

Dude, chill. Just post your own lfg and don’t start to blame guys with good gear. It’s not a big hassle to have ascended. People usually run dungeons for tokens and p2 is longer than 3, no matter what you say here. They rather do another dungeon for the gold.
You have one point though: why giving us challenging content if people won’t do it? So that’s how Anet can do it: give unique rewards, give us a title track, give us reputation or whatever. It worked in GW1 with UW and FoW, they had unique drops and most runs yielded at least some good items like ectos/shards etc.

its mostly because of 2 reasons:
the npc escort takes forever, you can’t give him swiftness, and if your pugs pull wrong you will multiwipe here. often.
the final boss takes more coordination than most and in my experience most speedclear pugs just faceroll health bars. this tends to not be a good combo.
with people who know the path or at least listen, it can be a very lucrative path. just don’t speed clear it.

Heroes will never work in this game. Anet can’t even get the ranger pet AI fixed. We are either stuck with brain dead heroes who get smashed because they never dodge. Or we would end up with Overpowered Heroes like Mesmer Heroes in GW1 who were better then most human players due to better interrupt timing.
Anet won’t get us an inspect option to separate the player base between zerker and non-zerker. I don’t see them giving out heroes who will separate players out even more. Get used to playing with people, its what anet wants us doing.
the main 3 problems with SE P2 are that:
1) almost every single enemy is an elite. there’s no extra loot from them, there’s no benefit from clearing them. it’s just anet artificially making a path “difficult” by giving every single trash mob a kitten ton of HP. even without the CC spam a full zerk party could sit there forever trying to put dents in hp bars.
2) you only have 2 choices for the entire path: kill every single thing that moves (and be in there all day) or skip the trash mobs and risk bug-pocalypse as every event stalls out
3) the boss isn’t especially difficult IF you have someone who knows exactly how it works and is willing to spend 10 minutes hammering it into the partys mind. otherwise you’ll be there all day just trying to figure it out and get it right. for a dungeon with more cutscenes than a AAA console extravaganza, it’s odd that there isnt a single one explaining the completely unique boss mechanic that you never see anywhere else ever.
I asked why. Answers from crowd (map channel, local chat): it is long. It is hard. Difficult last boss.
Now tell me. If this path is hard and long, whatever, you still want to make more challenging content in new expansions and updates? :-D Rolling on the floor laughing :-D
It takes longer than other paths, it’s slightly harder than other paths and has a higher chance to bug than other paths, but provides no additional reward for it. That’s why players skip SE P2, for the same reason players skip CoF P3, while AC P2 is a path players skip because it can bug easily.
When players are asking for more challenging content, they are also asking for extra rewards to go with it, otherwise what’s the point.
I actually like the path 2. But the NPC escort is killing me. I just can’t stand it. Each time I decide to try it again and everything is fine until I reach that NPC. Then I just want to get the hell out of the dungeon and never come back.
It’s a good challenge and loots, but it’s too long for the rewards, especially if you only get like an hour to play per day. It’s long because there’s alot of unnecessary draggings. It’s painful to watch that dredge carrying things to checkpoint(s), even if you do speedbuff on him. Can they just speed up the process.

You point something out. I mentioned this after they changed the dungeon rewards 2 or some years ago.
This particular reward (1g for SE2) was for me the ‘proof’ that they don’t play their own game, it’s completely out of place.

I think p2 is pretty fun and not too difficult. Plus you get so many bags and chests
i think it is not bugged now. at least me and few guildies tried to simulate the bug by letting the npc die, but it seems all working well now.

Yesterday we did P2 and 1 NPC didt move add all was the 1 that must open the door
so we had a ele with us and with her lighting hammer we jump over that gate door
so we think it will fix the bug but no -.-
so then we redo the dungeon again and it was fixed ??
