Speed Runs Usually End Up Taking Longer
The flaw here is that either the group didn’t know what to skip, failed at skipping, or aren’t on the same page with the same plan. It sucks being in pugs that assume everyone is on the same page and run off on their own. Despite all this though, if you manage to fix those flaws, then speed running is faster, but good luck doing that consistently with pugs.
This is most often seen in TA with the wolves, about half the time a group decides to skip this one or more (usually the light class guy) goes down and we spend more time waiting around for that person to get through than it would just to kill them first time round.
… all depends on the group.
Speed runs are faster if you can do them properly. They’re incredibly frustrating if you can’t though. So I avoid them, because people think everyone can just run past by default, and often there’s at least one person that can’t do so reliably, either because of lack of flexibility in their skill load-outs, squishiness, or not knowing where they’re running.
But I think you’re right that by the time you have to try and run past a group the second time, you would have saved more time just fighting them normally.
It’s pretty obvious, and nobody’s impressed.

Its not about time saved. Its about work. Id rather wait 10 minutes, and not kill anything. Than fight for 5 minutes.
Speed runs by means of trash skipping if done properly can save time. I do it often and I am certainly capable of doing so reliably. But then there is the whole PUG aspect during party formation. No matter how one put his/her requirements across, newbies who think that skipping trash is just plain running through will join up and be disappointed. Nonetheless not every run can be perfect and for me, I am willing to make that call.
Skipping mobs is an escape skill and if you are good at it, it will enhance your fighting capability. By saying good at it, meaning you are running alone not w/ a group because that will guarantee you will be a target and are remained a target for a long time.
On the other hand, running with PUG is like playing Rusian roulette. If you are not good at escaping, you might got lucky and you might not.
Edited: A general observation of player’s skill during skipping mobs. Not direct to your post, mosspit.

If the above is directed at my post, I mean I can skip reliably alone or with a group. Not necessarily with the same skillset.
Heres the kicker,
People wanting speed runs are actually wanting to be carried by others so it just turns into a group where everyone expects to be carried by eachother.
Here is why, your team are not skilled at all.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
Its not about time saved. Its about work. Id rather wait 10 minutes, and not kill anything. Than fight for 5 minutes.
Lol… work? Seriously work? Stop playing this game if actually PLAYING is a chore to you.
You sound like an addicted teen.
I was doing map completion yesterday morning, noticed a guy spamming for his ideal setup. 4 zerk warriors and a mesmer.
He spammed for 20 minutes solid and I presume started his farming, which usually is 3 runs for most groups. Thought it was ironic that he’d spent roughly 41 minutes total doing what any group could do in less than 30 minutes.
I personally find most ‘speed runs’ end up a complete nightmare unless it happens to be with people you know.

the gw2lfg website is the same bluesavanah,
Seriously look at it; heaps of “looking for zerker warrior” posts, and my “just lookin 1 m for p1” (or whatever for CoF) gets filled in 2 seconds. So do all the others – its why there are ONLY zerker posts left; because no body joins them (or doesn’t reach the bar set for them).
Yes its called a speed run cause it is slower than an ordinary run, righhht.
A bad group will take ages to do any kind of run
Let’s see… after doing CoF1 runs for the past 2 weeks, most speed runs are horrible and I leave after 1. Yes, it’s that bad. Some are ok and finish it in under 10 minutes, still not “fast fast”. Best ones are guild parties which honestly I can go with most setups and can still steamroll it.
Fastest 4war / 1mes party I’ve done is a guild party at roughly 7 minutes.
Fastest unconventional party I’ve done is a 2ele / 1war / 1thf / 1mes at roughly 8 minutes.
Most speed run pugs end up being 10 minutes… unfortunately, most unconventional pugs I’ve had anything from 15-20 minutes due to various reasons from completely inexperienced to dps being so low that they actually wipe to boss.
It’s not a speedrun thing, its a pug thing trying to do fast things and failing at it.
IMO (kittenes aside) it comes down to communication. I’ve taught lots of people how to skip trash in TA. And it does go faster. (Helps that I can give people stability and shout away the fear/immobilize.)
But if you just have a group that wants to speed run but half of them don’t know how and don’t ask what to do, you’re going to have a rough time.
Kal Snow – Norn Guardian
the problem was you did a dungeon run with a pug.
Absolute rubbish. If even 1 person knows what they are doing and explains it to the others in advance, speed runs are much quicker.
When the whole group already knows, it’s an absolute cake walk. Your problem came in that nobody knew what they were doing.
Honestly though if people just used a bit of awareness and watched the other players and the map you’d rarely even have to explain anything.
Often times when trying to run past trash, I get the impression that people have forgotten about that little arrow above each utility skill slot as well as the fact that you’re allowed to carry more than two sets of weapons.
Outside of groups where everyone in the party knows the path like the back of the hand and knows how to speed through it, speed runs always devolve into slow, non-fun constant faceplanting.
I’d rather just fight my way through, personally. Even on the dungeon paths I can do with my eyes closed. It’s more fun that way, and you get to spend time with people.
