Stop making consumable same as class skill
Watchwork portal devices have been a thing for ages and they probably have better value if you don’t spam your white mantle portal every time its off cooldown.
Harpy feathers have also been a thing for years and people still want thieves for dungeons
You see, I totally disagree with you and also think the cooldown of the item should be reduced to something reasonable. And this is not because it costs the equivalent of 500g to get. It’s because in my opinion portal is used most of the time to cheese out stuff like jumping puzzles more than anything and I always thought portal should have been something accessible to all classes and not a way for one to make money in some instances. Lets face it, no other class can make money off a utility skill they get for free.
I have a question why is the cool down so short on the watchwork portal vs the the one from raids which is by far harder to get. I am not saying make it as usable as the meser portal just not 30 min. Gods know memser would never stop if it had a cool down as short as theirs even tho it dose the same thing. I would have to agree with azoqu i say up the cool down on the meser portal to 15 mins and see how they would take it. It would still be shorter then the one from the raids.
I hope the next round of Elite Specializations has something like Mesmer Portal. I look forward to your posts then.

Lets not do that. Its one thing to have a utility device copy a utility skill, especially one that is expensive and hard to get. Its another to give away one of the most iconic skills in the game to another class for literally no reason

I’d hardly call portal something Iconic to mesmer, especially if we are going to consider how old mesmer actually is as a class….
It’s a real shame what they call mesmer in GW2 is such a departure from how it played and the real Iconic skills it had in GW1. Things like Panic, Cry of Frustration, Fragility all the fun hexes that actually defined that class.
Portal is a largely borken and useless mesmer skill at this point any way, compared to its original design.
Originally, there was no “hit f” interaction, as it was primarily used as a combat tool. the mesmer and his allies could use to to warp back and forth between points in combat as much as they wanted to flank/confuse mobs, etc.
These days it is literally only ever used to skip mobs in dungeons, cheese jumping puzzles, or to move around in wvw.
In truth it should absolutely be a utility item, and the mesmer’s version should be changed to something more useful in an actual fight.

Ya cause Mesmer hasn’t already stolen aegis from Guardian and Revenant hasn’t toppled Guardian as the boon class.

I read this argument in the other thrad as well and it bugged me there too, simply since it’s not true.
Aegis was NEVER guardian only. It was from the start a boon which was easiest to get via guardian but accessible by a multitude of classes. Mesmer always had the ability to gain/provide aegis via chaos storm. Other classes like thief and necromancer also had access to aegis.
The argument about revenant and guardian is even worse. Guardian was never a “boon” class. Same es elementalist and warrior are no boon classes. What about all the classes that gained quickness over the years (especially guardian “Feel my warth” which provided over 50% uptime post change and had to get nerfed). Boons were never a guardian only mechanic (not even aegis) so this argument is baseless.

Yes, let’s increase the amount of people who can cheese stuff since that is fair. The times where anyone charged for portals has been over for 3 years now and even back then there was quite a few people who placed portals free of charge. But you are correct, maybe the portal skill as such needs to get revisited. The skill is a permanent design problem and might need removal.

This is a GW*2* forum. Its fine if you think the GW2 mesmer is but a shadow of the class as it was in GW1, but that is not relevant to the discussion because core mesmer in GW2 was never the mesmer from GW1. Bringing that version of the class up is irrelevant and only serves to derail the thread.
Portal is pretty iconic. Mesmer remains the only class that can port others at will a sizeable distance in any game mode. Sure other classes have teleport skills but none of them can take someone else with them or let others use their teleport when they want provided it hasn’t timed out yet.

Yes I agree that portal was cooler back then but you know ANet, they can’t separate PvE and PvP skills so portal was changed to better accommodate the PvP players. Its still a nice and fun skill to use though
You can’t use any consumables besides food in raids. Also I think it’s more a design fault that character specific uitility skills and/or consumables are so usefull in dungeons/fractals.
Oh and PvE and PvP balance are already really bad.
