What do you think the stupidest fight is? By that I mean the one where even the most charitable explanation you can come up with for the design ends up being stupid.
There are lots of bad fights, but some of them can still be done quickly with the right group (ta f/u, for instance), and some might be excusable because Anet doesn’t understand how their events scale, even though they should of course know that (dredge clown car, for instance).
Worse than fights of either of these kinds is, I think, the grenth fight in arah p4. The first part is cool—split up, do a little damage, kill two orrians, it’s a fine mechanic. But then you have to kill 20 elite wraiths one at a time, running back and forth through the room to get to them.
The best explanation I can come up with for this is that they wanted grenth’s mark to present a challenge and thought that the way to do it was to start you off with just one wraith and then build up to five. Maybe they misunderstood how easy it would be to not worry about the mark; that can be excused because it was designed before release.
But that still wouldn’t have required 20 wraiths. Someone had to decide that 20 was the right number. “Hey, how many wraiths should we make them kill?” “This path isn’t long enough; better drag the fight out a bit.”
Well I would like not to say dredges, but I can’t, so dredges it is.

In addition to the above, Simin. The mechanic is a great idea, but how precise you have to be can be frustrating. Pre nerf it was nearly impossible, especially my guild, which most members dont run Berserker, which i dont care but people seem to think Berserker or fail. :P

Pre-nerf you could poison her with a Thief and DPS her while she was invisible. It was pretty easy. Now you can just AFK her.
As a DPS Thief, i tried that… it didnt work, my autos werent hitting, i knew because they werent cycling, maybe before i ever beat it you could, i beat it pre nerf aboutvabmonth before it got changed

The ascended stuff feels like it comes from the depths of the abyss. Crafting, for most people (I do know there are some who enjoy doing it, and selling stuff) is the least fun part of an MMO, and in most MMO, only people who enjoy crafting will pick it up. They just made crafting mandatory.
So far the way anet has worked is that they want you to do all the content whether it’s any good or not. This is terrible. You have to do guild missions if you want the ascended earrings without spending ton of laurels and glob. You have to craft for ascended weapons (and spend a kitten ton of gold in the process). You have to do dailies for laurels, and log on every day if you don’t want to be left behind (what’s the logic in the daily system? say, if I play a lot more hours during the week ends, and don’t play during some days of the week, why should I be behind someone who plays 30 minutes per day but logs on every day?).
Funnily enough the one and only thing you don’t have to do are dungeons. You do need to do some fractals as a more reasonable way to get rings though, and have the ingredient for backpiece.
So much for “play as you want”, and “no grind”. They did promise there’d be no grind for stats, only for skins like legendaries and the previous expensive exotics. Ascended stuff completely turned this game into the regular grind mmo.

There was one game where crafting was very very good: star wars galaxies (before a certain patch where they wowised everything).
But apart from crafting the rest of the game wasn’t that great .. well you could be a Jedi and craft you own lightsaber and be hunted by actual player bounty hunters, but apart from that as well it wasn’t that great.
The crafting part however, was the best I have ever seen so far.
The first concept was that you could collect materials anywhere in the vast open world, you could build harvesting plants, and the type of raw materials you would get depended on the area. There was a bazillion types of raw materials.
The second concept was that you could use almost any of these materials to craft items such as armor, weapons parts, speeders, buildings (I had a palace ..), spaceships, food, medecine, and lightsabers! The type of material you would use would affect the properties and quality of the item crafted.
The last concept is that you had to make many smaller parts (like walls, doors, pivots, windows, etc) before assembling them to make the final item (house). The quality and properties of each of these parts would affect the final item.
So there were players known for crafting the best scopes for rifles, or the best shields for spacecrafts.
You could experiment a lot with the raw materials and with the type of parts used.
This crafting system was so deep that crafter was a “class” on its own.
I miss that.
WoW’s crafting wasn’t as great but at least it made sense.
Gw2’s crafting just feels like playing on Excel. I play on Excel all day at work, I don’t want to do that when I come back home.

For now. Do you really think that with the whole shebang it will make no difference in wvwvw (and probably future content) ? they intend to introduce ascended armor, if you don’t work for the current stuff you will be so far behind that it will take you forever to get everything by the time it becomes mandatory. It used to be only accessories, which don’t really make a huge difference, but you go from accessories and then weapons then armor.. then who knows what, because they started doing vertical progression and I don’t think they’ll stop anytime soon.
My opinion is that if you don’t really try to get full sets now you might seriously regret it later depending on the direction this game takes.
Then there’s also the fact that most pugs will kick you out of fractals for not having max AR. I’m sorry but I don’t really want to be kicked because I don’t have max AR, despite the fact that I’m fine with dodging agony. When people were getting accessories, they started asking for 40 AR, then 45, for 48 runs. I’m pretty sure that two or three months from now they’ll ask for 55.

Legendary Jaddeor Icefist / Legendary Balgren Creedbreaker. These sonorous names belong to the two extremely boring, stupid and long HotW Path 2 bosses. It’s the pinnacle of HP sponge bosses in HotW. I really don’t know what the developers were thinking. Just make the HP a kittening third, really. There are no interesting mechanics, no different phases, just uber long stupid fights.
