The principe im developing here is that regardless of party size a good player can ’’carry’’ a bad team trought even if everyone else is dead. The game does not punish party for letting people die neither does it actualy makes it realy harder for people with a well timed dodge to do boss fight easily.

The principe of focused assault is that about every 4 second some boss could use a targeting attack wich will never miss (yes you heard me this attack will always hit regardless if you are blocking or not) and deal medium damage to a target in a logical order (1,2,3,4,5 and repeat always hiting in the same order if target are missing skip to the next number if there is more target then the numbers can continue ramping up to 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and so on) this is basicaly a enrage type mechanics wich makes the players take progressively more hits as the number of availlable targets diminish (now you have a good reason to bring in a minion master a mesmer or a ranger as they gives more target to the party and in such a way reduce the impact of that effect)
As a result as the number of availlable targets gets smaller, the boss will hit them more frequently eventualy killing even the most resiliant character or making the fight way harder for it (You will have a terrible time trying to revive your team once two or 3 players are down! beware not to let that happen)

Im not subjesting all boss use this mechanics but some definitively should (This makes a niche for AI user class such as ranger necromancer and mesmer as they will truly reduce the incoming damage from focused assault on the party) so to give a serious reason for some player to take care of their fallen teamates in fights.

While the damage is minor and can be overhealed easily taking to many of those hits consecutively will effectively bring down a large chunk of your health and may even eventualy kill you wich is why having a large number of alive player in the fight might be important.

As an alternative to hiting in a logical order the mechanics could also hit at random (making you worry constantly about keeping a healty bar)

Yeah and they could remove our weapons too! Then we can all just heal each other all the time!

No. Unavoidable damage is not fun, it’s not a mechanic, it’s nothing except cheesy. All of these posts boil down to ‘I want to play a healer class’. There is already damage reduction. It’s called protection and there are already classes that bring this when needed. There is also damage reduction in the form of reflects and blocks. They reduce damage to 0. There is also damage reduction in the form of dodging. You can take ANY combination of classes and be successful in an instance.

If unavoidable damage is introduced, then the need for a healer is also introduced. Then the game is limited and requires a dedicated healer to ‘outheal the ticks’. This is a horrible idea.

There are plenty of trinity MMOs out there. This is not one of them. Anet designed a very unique combat system that I enjoy more than the dated MMOs.

Unblockable/Guard break moves are one thing which anet already fails at – Make them have a visual and/or audio cue. (reminder: description below a mob’s HP or a buff icon is not acceptable for these mechanics).

Guaranteed damage no matter what you do is just dumb.

I had a pug thief once tell the guardian to drop his weapons and focus solely on rezzing. Your joke is something some pugs would actually want to take as granted.
