Hello!

A group of friends and I recently started playing guild wars 2 together and I’m having a difficult time selecting a profession to complement our current group setup.

Currently we have 2 warriors, one is very defensively/support specced shouts/banners that kind of thing. The other is very offensive, lots of AOE dmg.

The third member of our group is playing a condition damage mesmer.

I began playing before the others and currently have one of each class leveled to at least the 20/30 range (apart from warrior) and am uncertain which will best complement the group we currently have.

We are planning to run dungeons just the four of us, if that makes a significant difference in my class choice.

Guardian is probably the best class for offering synergy with pretty much any group. That said I really have not seen a need so far to have any specific class combos in the dungeons other than people occasionally looking for plate wearers.

4 warriors, 1 guardian. Might swap 1 warrior for mesmer. Or try 4 elementalists and 1 mesmer. Honestly every combination works.

Stop trying to bring other MMO style here and get a class that you like and learn how to be more effective with it. It will give you the better results.

I would recommend elementalist.

Warriors are good for laying down combo finishers, but not so much so the combo fields. Mesmers have a couple, but you’ll shine as an elementalist in that regard. Drop a water field and have the warriors pick up and place their battle standards to heal everyone in the area a ton, or do the same in a fire field to give everyone a full stack of might buffs.

Guardian would be my second pick—you have a lot of support from your shouts, but you’re putting yet another person in melee and only light and fire fields—not bad, but the elementalist is more versatile.

I do agree that you should pick something that is fun instead of just picking one for the synergies, but there is something to be said for the reduced stress that well-balanced groups tend to bring.

I would recommend adding a guardian or a support/reflect mesmer.

Dont even act like there isnt a preferred group composition for any given fight.

It´s because some people are lazy to learn how the mechanics of this game works. My ranger as healer is much better than any elementalist, at least I can use a relatively fast area heal/condition remover/water field and give a good amount of damage without having to wait for the cooldown of switching element. I can even support with a warhorn+healing spring. Or give some fire field for warriors using a torch and some multi-enemy damage with the axe. My engi can use light field and give a blast giving retaliation to my teamamates. And even heal and remove conditions. And whitout switching weapon can poison the enemy.

My warrior is a master of AC, when I get some weak pug that can´t do well because the breeders can overcome if not killed fast I change to my warrior an give them time to do the job when I keep distracting the breeder and killing their spawns.

It´s just learn how to play. And there are lot of lazy people that don´t want that.

And directly respond you Krsitine, yeah I love people who know how to do a dungeon and can work as a team instead someone who can only do one thing and are a dead bag on the rest. That´s my preferred group.
