inb4 infraction — this is not a post requesting a response from ANet. I’d love to hear from them, but I’m not going to ask…I’ve learned that lesson already >.< This thread is for discussion of ways that ANet could improve communication, show that they’re listening, and brainstorm ideas for workarounds while a game-breaking bug is fixed.

So there’s been a major progress blocking bug in the Cliffside fractal for a while now. I’m talking about the hammer disappearing when a player falls from the map while carrying it, and then never respawning — forcing the players to abandon the instance 3 fractals into a run. It appeared a couple of patches ago. It hasn’t been acknowledged by ANet, and AFAIK (I don’t run fractals much), it hasn’t been fixed.

Not being fixed is fine. These things take time to track down and correct. 100% understandable.

But seriously — not even acknowledging the problem? Or pulling the map from rotation while it’s being fixed? I’m sure they’re aware of it…but should we really be left completely in the dark about it? This isn’t new content that could be considered a leak, it’s a bug that is frustrating their customers and wasting their time. I don’t get why they’re silent about it. My snarky side wants to say they don’t want to admit to a mistake, but realistically, they probably just don’t have any protocol or precedent for informing players about this sort of thing.

With all of the talk of opening communications, this seems like some low-hanging fruit for engaging the community and smoothing over company/customer relations. It could be a starter scenario for developing an internal protocol for keeping customers informed on progress on a major bug.

What sorts of communications from ANet would you guys like to see? What sorts of workarounds can you guys think of?

I’ll start:

I’d love to see a stickied thread added for each major bug like this. A thread containing:

(1) A description of the bug.
(2) Whether or not it’s a priority for the team to fix it.
(3) Any temporary workarounds they implemented while a real fix is incoming.
(4) A rough ETA for a fix would be nice, but I totally understand if they don’t want to include one.

As for possible workarounds, I think pulling the map from rotation would be a good temporary solution. Fast, easy, and prevents players from wasting an hour just to have the instance break.

As far as I know, they are gonna fix the Cliffside bug.

Woohoo! The egg is on my face then for not keeping up with that thread. Awesome to see the reply (including the one from two weeks ago, that I also missed). After so much silence over similar issues in the past, that is refreshing to see.

Keep it up, folks :-)

Are “inprecise AoEs” considered a bug? That’s the thing which bugs me the most and I’d love to see it fixed…

I’d say so. But my post was more about game breaking bugs, like the cliffside hammer, old Alphard, instance-ownership/destruction, etc. that have a history of being ignored despite many, many threads appearing again and again about them.

I like that they’ve kept us in the loop about Cliffside, I wish I’d seen that thread earlier :-)

In light of the red posts in the bugs subforum (yay!) my only suggestion for how this might have been handled better is that a hotfix to pull the fractal from rotation would have been nice, especially given the severity of the bug. I’ve been wanting to give fractals another try since the “no new dungeons” announcement, but getting stuck at this bug during my first FotM run in months was enough to keep me from going back in.
