Main argument: The creator of a RAID squad should automatically have all the tools that a commander has to control the team.

Commander tools:

1. Invite and replace players
2. Move players in different groups
3. Place marks
4. Ready check

5. Countdown (this tool is not present today in GW but it would be a very usefull tool for raiding, it’s a simple 5,4,3,2,1,go tool so the squad knows exactly when to engage in combat).

Without going too much into detail it’s just common sense that the person who created the raid squad, thus took the reponsability of the group upon himself, should have the tools to control the composition and the marking of the squad. It is simply absurd that the creator (also called RL = Raid Leader) is obliged to spend 300g to place a single mark on a fellow raider.

In GW there are mainly 2 ways of creating raid groups. Using the guild system you can create static raid groups (with fixed players) while using the LFG you can create dynamic raid groups (known as PuG).

On one hand Anet incentivize the usage of PuG groups but on the other hand heavily penalize the creation of PuG groups by making the commander tag mandatory.

So just to make an example, if you have a group of 10 people and none of them has a commander tag than you can’t even place a mark on the ground for a boss encounter that was specifically designed to test your group coordiantion in the fight.

What happened I think is that ANet tryed to combine an old system they had, the commander system, with the a new system they introduced, the raid system. In my opinion it is not a good combination and it is required an improvement of the curent raid management system. The commander system works just fine for other areas but not for raids.
