Some may remember back when we could repeat dungeons much more easily.
Back then rewards were (un)balanced in that every path gave just the 26s – resulting in the cof p1 farming over and over.
With other paths now yielding more gold (granted some paths probably could do with more/less end gold), would it benefit to allow us to repeat on alts?
This would open up to much more easily forming groups, especially for us EU players on NA servers.
No, its “account bound”, if you run with and alt you will get the same diminishing returns you would get by running the same character.
I think it is a good idea for increased rewards for alts. Anything that will encourage more dungeon play is ok in my book. Maybe not the gold reward though, that would definitely be unbalanced imo. I’m thinking more along the lines of one-time full 60 tokens w/o gold for alts that repeat a completed dungeon before the daily; that would be nice.
or you can do it for the 20 tokens if you really want to mate nothing is stoping you….. the reason it is like that now is to make people run more dungeon paths not the same over and over on alts
Most players do their daily dungeon rotations for gold, the tokens are only secondary. So increasing the token reward from 20 to 60 will not encourage player only doing 1 path over and over. They will still go through their daily paths for the gold reward but will be more encouraged to work on repeating those paths with their alts because because getting the full 60 tokens per path per alt is a lot more enticing, which was the point of this thread.
and why cant you repeat it for the 20 tokens then?

Your argument basically amounts to “let’s not change the status quo because change is inherently bad” and addresses nothing Tom says.
The great irony in this is that we are only at this current status quo because of changes, and people here are arguing for the original status quo.

Thats not strictly true. I don’t think anyone wants to go back to every dungeon path gives 26s silver only.
The issue of people farming one path over and over is an issue with risk:reward.
Also was a result of less general knowledge of anything but cof p1 back then.
I suspect most would continue to do dungeon tours rather than alt-farming one path now for several reasons:
1) same path for hours = boring.
2) better general knowledge of other paths
3) rewards are (arguably) better balanced for other paths now
4) collections requiring other paths (though only a short term reason)
5) people are now used to doing tours.
reasons I think this would be a benefit:
1) easier to find groups, especially during EU evenings on NA servers.
2) encourage people to play more than one class (resulting in better understanding of team compositions, and what they can do to help their team be stronger).
3) some people just enjoy doing dungeons.
So far the only reason against this I’ve seen is " because I don’t like change".
I don’t recall dungeons giving 26 silver only. Back in the CoF P1 farming days we still got approximately 1g at the end of each path, from various sources, subject to DR.
Hard to say whether things were better before, but I am definitely in favour of per character time-gating.

Moving the gold away from boss drops steered the food meta away from omnomberry bars with the 40% gold find. That was definitely a good change.
Making everything, including the regular dungeon chests, account bound may have been one step too far.
Just to play devil’s advocate, why should a person with alts be able to make more money repeating dungeons than someone with only one character? Alts are not there for farming. Players continually ask for more money from their alts because they want more money, simple. Alts are not an achievement that deserves a reward. Alts are fun. That’s all.
If you think that running a dungeon a second time in a day with an alt is fun then just do it. Enjoy it.
Enjoyment, like any other form of reward, is just another way to be measured by utility. Sure, some people out there do things just for the sake of fun, but rarely is that the only thing that gets taken into account when deciding to do one thing over the other.
In addition to that, gold/tokens/etc. allows a player to enjoy many other things the game has to offer, so that aspect has to be considered as well.
IMO I feel the argument that “you should just do things for fun, and that should be enough” is a very weak one. Players want to be rewarded in a multitude of ways and fun is only one variable.
Definitely agree moving it off bosses and reducing the demand for gold drop food (in dungeons) was a good move.
A person with alts wouldn’t be able to “make more money” than someone without alts.
gold/hour would be the same. Doing a path twice would take twice as long as doing it once.
Absolutely everything is once per day now, even the ground chests. There is absolutely no reward for helping buddies/guildies out and filling a slot in a dungeon path later in a day.
“just for fun” is quite a weak argument and it seems my original purpose has been missed. Most people wont do it “just for fun”, they want their gold, or their t6 mats, or their bandit crests. Very few are so generous with their (limited) time. Looking to make it easier to fill groups from guild rosta, and see more lfgs being posted/filled.

If you have more alts, you need more stuff. It is really quite simple. Every single account bound gate makes alts just a bit more of a burden than they need to be.
‘Fun’ in MMOs means getting stuff. You know it, I know it and ANet kitten sure knows it. You do something, and get an item when it’s done. This is the foundation upon which the entire genre is built.

60 tokens for alts affects the dungeon trinket market.
Oversupply back then was so bad because of not much diminishing returns on token supply.
No-one buys the dungeon trinkets – after the ascended stuff got released.
Why would they now buy them?

Yet somehow my Nightmare Coils and Plagues sell over night.
no, it will further devalue gold and the cost of gems will rise even more. nonono.

I would consider this a good middle ground. No increased reward in gold so we are not introducing more gold into the economy; actually, it is helping with the gold sink via trinkets/ecto trade through the BLTC. While increased tokens will lower trinket prices, it is still limited by the amount of recipes out there and cap on how many alts people have. More importantly, the trade-off of more dungeon activity is a net positive IMO. And this is coming from a person who has at least 1 recipe in almost every dungeon.

The chests along the route should be available on ALTs.
Once you’ve done it on one character swapping results in 0 chests.
Combine this with the tokens and I think we have a good middle ground for rewarding ALTs (even if the end big gold reward is missing).
along the way ground chests would definitely help.
So how about shifting some of the tokens/gold from the daily chest to the main reward chest?
So for example cof p1:
Daily chest: 30 tokens & 75 silver
Guaranteed end:
30 tokens and 56s silver
OR AC
Daily:
30 tokens
1.25g
Guaranteed end:
30 tokens
56 silver.
Personally I’d like more silver in the guaranteed end pile (half of the current daily reward), but I can see problems with being able to repeat arah p1/2 (for those who are good enough).
I’m against any changes to increase gold rewards over what they already are. Gold rewards for dungeons are in a good place. If Anet were to change anything, the daily gold reward just need to be better distributed.
