Thank You Anet
Thank you Anet for not giving in to the screams and sticking with your design. My static group and I just completed all 4 paths in Arah today and we were totally blown away with some of the events and boss fights. The scenery and atmosphere is spot on and all 5 of us really enjoyed our 5 hours today.
In those 4 wings we ended up with 100 tokens or so but that wasn’t why we were running them. We wanted the challenge. We wanted the atmosphere. We wanted to have our efforts rewarded and we got exactly that.
It wasn’t the loot that rewarded us. It was the satisfaction of knowing we 5 are doing things that most here on this board says is impossible. We were rewarded with the laughs we shared when someone goofed and got capped or how one of our members just cant figure out that running ahead just isn’t bright.
All in all, it was a fantastic day of dungeon crawling and we want to thank you for it. We haven’t had this much challenge in a game since Eq1.
Thanks.
Let me re-write this:
“Thank you ArenaNet for not giving into the QQing today, because me and my 4 buddies were in the first group of 80s who didn’t get shafted in the “Kitten” and got to free farm out CoF gear before you ruined the game for everyone else. Now we have the gear to viably run Arah, so keep up the good work only catering to me and my 4 friends and make sure you don’t screw us too because were the last happy people you have left."

Umm CoF gear wont make you 1 bit stronger than the exotics you can buy from the trading post. The ONLY reason to get the gear is for the looks . Everyone who logs in can have the exact same stats I have by going to the trading post.
So why are you doing something you really really hate that doesnt measure up to your standards when you can get the same stats by crafting or buying them?
The game isnt broken. Your mentality is.
You really aren’t intelligent… one its horsekitten for you to sit here and tell me you and your buddies aren’t all in CoF gear.
Secondly to buy the Exotics for 3-5 gold if not more a piece on the TP you need to farm money. And now the repair cost > Money earned from dungeon grinding which means either way you slice this pie my friend you are thanking arenanet for screwing everyone else but you and your 4 buddies.
Roll another toon and join the crowd who got shafted lets see if you sing the same tune when you get to 80 on that character.
Bud you just don’t have a clue. I have over 200g already and I didn’t get it by running dungeons. I logged on day 1 and leveled weaponsmith as I leveled my character. I sell at least 1 weapon a day and depending on materials I have sold 4 a day. I don’t corner the market, i don’t undercut anyone. All I do is craft a weapon, sell it and boom gtg.
Oh and I am a jeweler as well.I have 2 pieces of CoF gear and have done all 3 paths in CoF. We didnt sit there and farm magg because we KNEW it would be changed.
I bet you right now I can level an alt and staert it out fresh with 0 help from my main and be ahead of you in days. Why? because i dont whine and think things cant be done. I just go do them.

Do all of it while streaming so the video footage is there. I’ll be an avid watcher.

the challenge has been made twice already. (he ignores those posts)
Everything feels like this:
If I can’t, then others shouldn’t.
If I already did it, it should be much harder for others.
Human nature. Selfishness and jealousy. Its a core part of who we are and is entirely unavoidable despite the various degrees it can go to.
Easy way to rectify this is more content for the elitists and easier rewards for the casuals.
The game is still in its infancy which means critiques of all sorts is always helpful for a growing game.

I’ve got ~70g total for just crafting with MINIMAL effort. I’ve been net profiting off my crafts this whole week, its not a surprise to me that someone else got to 200g without exploits.
How did I and most people do it? Excel sheet.
Explorable Modes is for organized and skilled groups, which has always been the case it seems. If you wanna do them, but can’t, then you should probably either join up in a guild, ask them to be on some teamspeak thing or whatever, or just up your game.
Now, about rewards. I find tokens to be a long term goal in the dungeon, which makes it okay that it’s something you need to run the dungeon a lot of times to get, but the problem is that tokens is the only thing you really can show for doing the dungeon. “It took a long time to complete this dungeon guys, but now, behold! 30 tokens! Just 12-19 more times and it will actually mean anything at all!”
There should be a short term goal. Completing one dungeon should give a reward that makes running that one dungeon worth it, where the tokens can be a reward that makes it worth running the dungeon 20 times. Maybe a chest in the end that gives crafting materials appropriate to level, where 80’s would get some of the Tier 6 stuff, like Armored Scales, Ancient Bones, Hardened Leather Scraps, that kind of stuff. Maybe a chance for a Glob of Ectoplasm. Just STUFF that is kind of rare to get in the world, and would make dungeons worth doing one of, and feel like it gave good stuff. There’s so much you need to make a legendary, drop these kind of things into the bag.

This is a good method. Really, all endeavours should be as profitable as doing anything else in this game. There should be no discrepancy to how you play the game so long as you play it.

Heres a question..
If the token reward system takes too long and the trading post cost too much, what is stopping you from crafting your own? Its a really really good crafting system. The rewards are as good as any gear in the whole MMO which isnt done in many MMO’s. It wont cost you a dime if you play the game and plan ahead.
No other true MMO in history has given you so many ways to get the best gear in the game and be on equal footing with the best of the best players. Not WoW, not EQ, not DAOC, not any other true MMo gives everyone be it casual, pro, newcomer, old woman, or whatever the ability to be on equal footing in so many different ways. The best GW2 player in the world has the same stats as the 2 week old player.

Because a ton of people don’t find the concept of spending all their “Many” (sarcasm) hours of free time a day running around doing chores of collecting materials over and over again just to make gear that has no skill or challenge or reward feel outside of “Well I say there an farmed 5000 Iron Ore…that was challenging now I got me 1 exotic piece…time to do it all again.”
This is what I meant by you are not that intelligent. If you had any sense in you, you wouldn’t ask such a stupid question.

“The game isnt broken. Your mentality is.” – Ruien
You’ve already been trying to bait other people a couple times; also, you took the bait with that reply.
You’re no better than them than they are to you.
It’s great that you were able to do Arah with a group of friends for five hours today and have fun. It’s amazing that you were able to get 400 weaponsmithing and jewelcrafting as well as simply watch the market, and with your business instinct, make 200 gold. I am also thankful for the 21 years of service you’ve put into our Navy, and I am genuinely glad that you own your house outright and seem to be doing okay for yourself. While I don’t care as much that you bathe daily, I won’t deny it’s refreshing.
Oh, and if your friends also served, I am thankful for their efforts as well.
Unfortunately, I passed up leveling my crafting, because I had to budget my time. I could level crafting or level an alt or get the Nightmare set. The Nightmare set won out. It makes my Asura look like Queen Maleficent, and that is amazing. High-five Arena Net.
I’ve run the dungeon many times. I have 3 of the 4 that I want. I am choosing not to get the gloves and shoes, because they don’t really show. I don’t really want to do Twilight Arbor any more than I have to. I would rather level an alt!
Before, I was happy. I never ran Twilight Arbor more than a few times. I always had fun with the people I did it with. There were some groups that annoyed me, so I finished my run with them and bid them adieu. For the most part, however, I enjoyed my time in Twilight Arbor. I can run it quite efficiently as a Mesmer. I swap weapons and skills with every group of monsters. I go back and help people when they need it, like with the swarm of bees in the Forward-Up path. And at the end of the run, I am treated with 20 tokens in total towards my armor set, 26 silver, and 177,000 experience. Worth it.
And then came the patch. First run. Yeah! Rewards as usual. After that, pain of loss. I tried resetting the diminishing returns by doing another path but to no avail. I helped out a guild that was new to a path that I had not done today yet and was still affected by diminishing returns. I received 2 silver and 17k experience for an hour of going above and beyond. I was so awesome. I had fun too. They were nice enough people. But at the end of the challenging run, I got the same rewards I would get for doing an event outside for 1-2 minutes. That just doesn’t seem right.
The reward does not fit the amount of effort put in. Yes, I had a great deal of fun, but are we so short on money and experience that there needs to be a trade? Have fun with friends and family in a dungeon or make competitive money and experience elsewhere? I understand that you get items to sell, but you can also get items much faster elsewhere.
Now, you know that I don’t have a craft up to 400, and you know I don’t pay attention to the market. I essentially live off the money I make while helping others with their story mode or explorable dungeons and events. Do I have enough to be competitive with someone like you, who has 200g and is making more every day at a much higher rate? Probably not. And I’m not asking to make as much by doing dungeons.
However, I’m asking for enough so that I don’t have to choose between buckling down and making money so that I might be able to afford things in an ever inflating market and helping people and doing dungeons and having fun and shenanigans everywhere.
CoF needed to be fixed. I agree, but the changes they made had much more far-reaching effects than they had probably intended. They explained how they intended the diminishing returns system to work, and it is simply not working that way. People, as well as me, are voicing our concerns accordingly.
Does this sound unreasonable?
Nope and its a very good post Miya. I see your point. But I don’t agree thats its as broken as this board is making it out to be. My original Op was an honest thank you amid a swarm of hate. I should have left it at that. I would say i hope you get that last piece of gear but i already know you will get it.
You know it.

Wait, am I going to get banned for 15char?
In addition, here is me including something relevant to the topic and completely necessary and not at all padding my post so that it meets the character limit to be posted.

“It wasn’t the loot that rewarded us.”
I think everyone can agree that a challenge is awesome, but being thoroughly disappointed by terrible loot doesn’t have to be a part of the equation.
We can have the best of both worlds, people. Don’t settle for anything less.
Did you miss the part about the 100 tokens ? Thats over half of 1 piece of epic looking gear in just 5 hours. Did I forget to mention that in those 4 runs I had to salvage 5 backpack full of items which I turned around and made 12g from crafting with latter ? Did I mention that we had very few actual repair deaths and all of us came away with more money than we went in with?
You people are just spoiled.
I already have a full set of exotic gear. I could care less about the tokens. I don’t like the way the sets look anyway. We want better rewards, that gives players OTHER incentives to run dungeons for reasons besides the token grind.
Also, you’re saying all this stuff like you are the only one that has ever run Arah. Please, get over yourself. I have done it multiple times, and while you do come away with some salvage loot, it’s nowhere near the reward you are claiming.
Have an open mind, because these dungeons could use a lot of improvement. Your “fanboyism” is through the roof.
My point was that getting 200g in such a time WAS possible by crafting OR dungeon runs. We had OPTIONS. Anet has determined getting gold that quickly WAS A PROBLEM (and/or due to exploits) so they slowed dungeon completion rate, increased difficulty & nerfed dungeon rewards. Crafting they made require some extra mats here and there, but it makes no difference because the added difficulty is just balanced by the games economy.
Now, with this patch you have 1 way to get that kind of money, crafting. You also have a pointless (except once through) game mode.
I like to be rewarded for killing things in game; it’s what I find fun. Using excel, databases, and crunching numbers is what I do for 8 hrs a day at work. I occasionally find it fun, but it’s not why I play video games. I find meeting new people, forming a team, having, and achieving a common goal are fun. I don’t like to play a MMO by myself or with the same 4 people all the time. Then I’d buy an XBOX.
Why don’t you want me to have fun? Why do you want my video game experience to feel like work? Why do you support the removal of a feeling of rewarding? Why wouldn’t you want me to play a MMO with a massively large number of other players?
You say you do dungeons for the challenge. Why’d you do crafting then? Where’s the challenge? Or did you do it for an easy reward? (which is what you WERE accusing us of, and now you’re saying we’re dumb for not taking the easy way out)
facepalm*
