Excelsior comrades!

For more than a year we have been wandering in dungeons, slaying monsters right and left. For more than a year we have been learning how to master these encounters, and we have become very good at it. So good that the only real way we can get better is by doing it faster. Speedrun records are definitely awesome. The feats of skill displayed by the top PvE players achieving them are truly amazing. Yet these speedruns often leave the viewer with a bitter after-taste. People want to see entertaining play, they want to see daring tactics, they want to see challenge … What if we could push the limits of our achievements and give the the performers as well as the viewers something to strive for?

My friends, I hereby present you:

The Dungeon Challenge
Volume 1

This is the time and place where you can engage the best players for a friendly test of your skills and imagination.
The Dungeon Challenge is a very simple concept, there is a Challenge Master, he defines a Challenge and anyone can try to beat it to claim the title and become the Challenge Master instead of him.
To achieve a challenge you have to beat the test defined by the challenge master exactly in the terms that he has stated. You have to provide a video for proof. The community then decides if you have properly performed, and in the end it is the challenge master who validates or invalidates your achievement. If your claim is approved then you become the challenge master and you have to define a challenge. You can be as creative as you want when designing challenges (group solo, traits, camera angle .. you name it). The point is not to make it impossible, but to make it interesting and entertaining.

I will keep track of who has managed to claim the challenge master title for themselves. A scoreboard will be published and updated as the chain of challenges goes on. Do you want to make a name for yourself? Beat the challenges, claim the title, and you will know fame like no one has known since the last gladiators.

Let’s not keep you waiting any longer. Here is the first challenge:

Challenge 1, the 20th of September 2013:
Kill the Slave Driver in Citadel of Flame explorable path 1 with only off-hand weapons equipped in your group.
All skills are allowed for as long as you do not have main hand skills available (so no conjured weapons, no transformations, for example)

Finish the Uncategorized Fractal’s champion fight (right after the first set of harpies) by killing the rabbit last.
The fractal level has to be at least 28.
No consumables allowed apart from nourishment.
Kiting the rabbit out of the room is not allowed.

Are utility skills allowed?

Sounds nice ^^ but it may take a while XD

Are skills like Thieves Guild / Hounds of Balthazar allowed?

What about Rangers? :O

What about death shroud?

What about consumables and other “stuff”?

Yes, utility skills are allowed for as long as they do not give you main hand skills.
Thieves guild and Hounds of Balthazar are allowed.
Ranger’s pets are allowed, the ranger himself must use only off-hand weapons.
Death shroud is kind of in a grey area, I would say it is not allowed.

Consumables and other “stuff” are allowed, but keep it clean
Edit: afterthought, consumables are not allowed for this one!

I guess this means it’s time for a five mesmer group all spamming phantasms then.

Today we used this and beat TAFU in 17 minutes. Here is the video

How did you know that its my birthday? :O I’ve been thinking of doing something similar for quite some time, I’m in, when I have some more time I would like to go over some suggestions ,I think that, with your permission, I can try broadening the scale of the operation and increasing the stakes a bit with the sponsoring of rT.

We will be putting up another challenge as of now, we’d like a group to do the champion fight in the harpy fractal on lvl 28, the challenge is to kill the rabbit last, no consumables allowed, nourishment is fine ofcourse. Also, kiting the rabbit out of the room(I dont even know if its possible but just in case) is not allowed.

Full dungeon run with no UI sounds fun anyway, might have to do it some time.

if not solo its hard to check though, 4 people could jsut run with UI, we cant see it if only 1 person vids

A question to the community:

We are trying to promote these challenges to a broad audience because we really believe in them. I know a lot of people are interested in these, so we would like your opinion: should the challenge thread be located on the general discussion sub forum or here in the dungeon forum?

I would say we don’t want to people come here . Because once they do, they won’t be coming back.

The No healing challenge.

Rules-

• Kill any boss without healing skills. This means that everyone’s 6th skill must be empty. This includes Healing Signet, Signet of Malice, Signet of Restoration and Signet of Resolve.
• No cheesing/LoSing.
• Everything else is allowed. Any form of healing other than healing skills is allowed. Including, ressurection, regeneration, water combo fields.
• Choose whatever boss you want to kill.
