I am looking for input as to why players seem obsessed with having a guardian in their group.

The situation is like this. You are trying to do a F-20 daily and players obsessively want a guardian in their group. I do have a guardian at F-20 and I am still at a total loss as why you would really need one. I joined some of these groups trying to be a real idiot by only spamming scepter attacks and putting up a shield once in a while. Still, players seemed totally happy with my abysmal performance.

I also got an Ele at F-20 which I personally deem vastly superior in terms of crowd control. Balling the group and have two thieves spam “cluster bomb” into a “lava font”, which results in the entire group having 25 might stacks before an encounter is also pretty unbeatable in terms of combo-damage.

I also can’t be survivability, because I die with neither class very often.

If you know which magic button the players looking for guardians want me to push, please drop me a line.

Of course there are protection and aegis. Any of these are essential in a few fights in higher level fractals, not so much in lower levels, and definitely not around 20. I don’t even play a guardian, I shouldn’t be the one telling you how you are useful

The core mechanics of fractals can be summed up as “dodge what you can’t reflect, reflect what you can’t dodge.”

Unfortunately, most people can’t dodge. Guardian’s many reflect is what a lot of people are going for to compensate for that. Then again, if I were to do lower fractals, I tend to avoid groups asking for specific classes, these groups just scream incompetence.
