So… PvE…
The game seems very based around the dodge roll mechanic and is also very limited because of the lack of the trinity system. Removing it has worked well in PvP but not so much in PvE.
I think this is very apparrent throughout the game. Take the dragon fights for instance, very static because you cant tank it or heal it properly. I’m not saying you cant heal by the way, just not in the traditional sense. You have 50 guys stood in front of what might as well be a very loud rock running and dodging then killing adds. Then running and dodging and killing adds. Then protecting npcs by killing adds. Then complaining that you cant see whats going on because of the engines limits.
Then we have the dungeons, they are pretty fun, hard in places, but so obviously lacking testing in others. Tonight we ran CoF for the first time since the patch. We tried wing 2 as we knew what to do how to do it and had our run without any exploits down to about 20 mins. We got to the bit where you need to get magg over the lava, he died in fire, the mobs kept respawning so we dropped the extinguisher, it didnt respawn. So we had to use 2 warrior elites to pain stakingly drag him out of the fire until we got one. After we did this we found if you get aggro of his target and just run, he follows anyway despite the fix to speed runs.
Dodge roll. A fantastic PvE mechanic, very intuitive easy to pick up and great idea. In PvE, not so great. Similar to the downed state. It feels like the downed state is an excuse to put 1 shot bosses and Huge dragon 1 shot aoe in the game. You just get back up with anyone ressing and forget it ever happened. In PvE everyone except ele has a great time being downed
Speed runs. Now that you dont get anything for killing a boss, why are you against speed runs? Why punish talented gamers who can do things fast? I completely agree that arah shard farming was dumb and had to be fixed. Now that you can’t do that however, why is there DM for putting time into the game?
Back to the trinity system. PvE in my eyes has gone from careful cc of mobs with good tanks and healers in demand to just dps. As long as you have 1 suport “not a healer because theres no trinity * cough * guardian” you can faceroll almost anything. I know that some people will say well i done it so anyone else should be able to. I know you can setup a group for perma blinds and perma stacks of 25 vulnerablity. The problem lies with the lack of a tank a healer and dps. You get alot of hybrid broken builds that are generally crapola. If you gove the average gamer too many choices, they will always pick the wrong ones. Then lots of other average gamers will defend that gamer on forums then nerfs and buffs happen due to the masses playing UP/OP classes when really they have horrible builds. /Rant off.
One of my guildies summed the patch up very well tonight. He said it felt very swtor. Changes that have not been thought through a little rushed and under tested. You guys are the experts and what you have done well in the game you have pushed the boundaries of the genre with. On the other hand what you have done badly with you have done really badly.
Well done guys you made a great game, few little things and it will long lasting success!
