The eleventh raider
You can either have some ppl run the same raid twice, or fill the remainder with friends/pugs/hired help.
Also since there is no gear treadmill, skipping some weeks is no problem.
Most likely, if what Anet promised about the difficulty of raids, the most elite 10x players of the guild will have a raid spot, the rest will be kittened.
What we will do (rather casual guild) will really depend on the actual difficulty.

Even if people get their weekly rewards, they can always raid a second night on an alt to get more practice in a different role. Anyone so selfish that they won’t raid a second night per week to help guildies get it done is probably not worth raiding with in the first place.

Very well said, +1.
On a personal side note- I still have some hope left that for me -unlike the rest of HoT so far- raids will be fun enough to be worth playing just for the sake of playing them.
Leader of “Servants of Balance” [SoB], a small guild endemic to the FSP.
We have over 30 active members, that means 30 people that want to raid.
Our solution to that:
- 1 try-hard raid group.
- 2 “explorer/developer” crews (making team comps + tactics).
- 1 extra raid team for training purposes and in case someone missed his other raid.
That’s what we have in mind right now.
Get your top 8 locked in. Then have the remaining members make armorless/skill less/ dodge less run across the second arah p2 skip. What ever 2 makes it the fartherest will be the 2 who get to raid.

I… actually have to agree on this.

Yeah i’m not seeing how skipping things is supposed to make sure players are good for raid content.

That is really dependent on how much of a time investment raids really are. If a raid takes hours to complete or requires constant wipes to practice (which they probably should), then that 11th, 12th, etc person will probably be SOL, regardless of their skill as a raid. That is the simple truth of fixed number raiding (not taking a stance either way – just pointing out the math of it).

He was joking

I wouldn’t be surprised if you have wiggle room to swap people in and out throughout the week. The time investment is only as long as it takes you to learn the encounter(s) so the # of wipes is highly variable to each team.

If people are right with how many times you will have to retry before you’re able to complete a raid, then that’s even worse. How many people will really enjoy the attempt, wipe, repeat cycle on content they have already completed successfully ?
Especially if the wipe only happens half an hour into the raid.

My comment above about raiding more to help a guildie is true. However, its a two way street. Spending an extra evening helping 3 guildies get their reward is awesome and should be done. Spending an extra evening wiping over and over again because one guy just isn’t getting the job done isn’t fair to everyone either. If the guy understands the mistakes he is making and improves with each pull, then it’s working and you ought to stick with him. If he makes no progress and makes excuse after excuse, wipe after wipe he isn’t trying to learn and you shouldn’t be under an obligation to carry him.

If your guild only has a few “extra” members wanting to run, I don’t think it will be much of an issue for you guys to swap around, especially since people will likely have to leave early and what not.
Or you can run 2 groups of evenly split guildies, and fill the rest of the spots on both teams with pugs/friends.
