The endless waiting
That’s been my experience too. Also, the waiting to fill in “roles” because of people dropping like flies. Fun times in raids…
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
The waiting is always there. Even when I play with my 9 friends you still have to wait a lot, take breaks very often. Cause out of 10 people someone will always have to go do something at some time. And this will always be an issue, unless you find 9 people to raid with you who have no life and only play the game without any interruptions.
For some reason, I don’t remember overly long waiting times when raiding in WoW vanilla with 40 people.
Is there something pecular that causes the waiting times here? Or have people simply become impatient?

Then that’s a raid design problem ultimately, not a player created problem.

Clearly it’s the raids fault when people need to go afk all the time? Did I miss your sarcasm? xD
welp, it’ s a normal thing for raids – people has stuff to do, and when there are 10 people they tend to accumulate
About vanilla wow and 40 man raids… the waiting was absurdly crippling. Even if at the times there were mostly hardcore nerds that abnegated anything else from their life while in raid the ready check could take a hell lot of time, usually.
In fact it was usual thing to just run without checking every time if somebody was ready, with the result that somebody started with a minute of delay or so on! This, coupled with the necessity of picking players badly geared and with “fluctating” skills made the game very frustrating.
This is why 40 man raids were removed. Not worth the mess, i agree on that.
The waiting should not occur since this content is only for guilds. There is no raids on lfg for a reason. They think everybody got a skilled group on their guild to run this RAID.
