From my personal experience, I used to be kicked a dozen times for No Zerker gears, No Ascended gears, No Agony Resistance, or lack of skills. People did even kick me at the very end of Jade Maw boss (Fotm) after 90-minute-live-and-die-together because they found me suck. Anyway, that was the past.

Now i learned: In order to be the boss in this game, you have to be extremely serious. I learned to become Group leader all the time. I kicked out every single noob/newbie or anyone with less than 1000 Achievement points that i meet in group. Running CoF without Zerker gears? Instant Kick. Fotm level 15 without AR? Instant Kick. You are Rangers? Instant kick, too. Less than 5 exotic gears? Yay probably i will kick ya.

During 8 hours of playing GW2 everyday, almost everything i said is: Gear check pls. People may blame me for being harsh, but do they know why i am harsh and who taught me to be harsh? =/

Surely I am not the only one outthere. Perfectionism is a contagion. It is spreading and will keep spreading unless the authority do something. Remember the time when no one knew about CoF speed run, Fotm was not yet released, Dragons with few people and no Overflow, no lagging like hell. It WAS so much fun.

I wonder when they release new contents in the future, what will those thirst-for-gold (including me probably) become. Monster maybe?

So this is the question: Is the community getting less enjoyable? What do you think?

P/s: Some nice guys asked me: You can decide not to be a perfectionist, can’t you? I say yes. But the fact is more and more people are becoming like me, while it is true that being perfectionist gives you much much more golds in Dugeon runs. I myself realized I don’t want to be perfectionist at all, but I want golds, too.

I can’t tell if this post was facetious or serious.
If facetious, ehhh.. okay. If serious, what is your problem? Why would you start doing the exact thing that you hated done to you? Find a nice group of people to play with if you keep getting kicked. Kicking other “bad” players doesn’t make you better at the game. Learning how to deal with mechanics and situations makes you better.

How can you seriously ask if the community is getting “less enjoyable” when you yourself admit to a corruption of your own will?

You either go with the flow (as you had), or just play it the way you want to play – after all, after you’ve farmed everything there is, all that’s left is to chill and hang out and chat with your guildies. Then you’ll realise it doesn’t matter anymore. Speedruns or not. Community as a whole getting enjoyable or not is subjective. But that’s the nature of society. As one thrives more kittens be revealed. That’s why people always reminisce about the good ol’ day where there’s no TVs, no smartphones, and where kids play around catching each other in a park.

People want to think of online gaming community as vastly different from RL, but actually they are not.

I’ve meet people the exact same as you lol. Your not a “perfectionist” you are an Elitist. And that is the correct term for it. I have a warrior fully decked in zerker gear full exotics and I don’t tend to play in groups like yours. I find it more mind numbing and soul stabbing than anything because I don’t like to see somebody that is trying to learn and grow in the game being called a scrub, newb,or just getting kicked late dungeon for one mistake. It makes me hate the game along with myself when I am in a group that does that. I have been playing with alot of newbs in CM and after running each dungeon path once I have it memorized and can lead/teach people how to run it. Kicking someone from lack of gear/experince is truely demoralizing to them and it might make them quit the game or that dungeon all together. I honestly feel sorry for you because it sounds like the game isn’t fun for you anymore it sounds like a job.

Entire fort of people disapeared, only thing left carved into a tree was CROATOAN.

ya that’s why elitist isn’t the problem.

If you can’t meet those requirement just dont’ join those groups.

And you don’t need to feel sorry for those under geared or inexperienced player “trying to join the elitist group”. Since they are all the same people.

If the first post is serious then i am ashamed. I consider myself a perfectionist and i would not say that you are one. You are merely a elitist. One of a kind i dislike very much. Why? Because it is you new players will encounter and then they think the guild wars community sucks. It is you who helps people to complain about the new AC and it is you who destroys the fun of others.

I still think that elitism is a problem. At some point all the knowledge will be in that pool and the only way for new players will be through very painful trial and error. I support the fact that you learn stuff yourself and that new players give up too easily but be honest how many of these so called “good players” actually learned the mechanics, the game by themselves? A small minority. Such elitism just makes a huge gap in the society and i strongly believe that this is a step in the wrong direction.

There is only 1 thing I select on. If you go fractals 10++ you will want at least 5AR. Sure, it is not required but still … very much suggested.

My trinkets are still yellow, and my stats aren’t min-maxed. I’m not being elitist on things I don’t do myself. But I found fotm10 pretty annoying without AR and I know others struggle just as much as me.

Lastly, I don’t do COF speedruns, but if I would, it is only normal I’d use the correct build for a gimmick, I don’t think any debate about that is possible. If you don’t want to build for a gimmick, you shouldn’t play it.

If I can’t play Guild Wars 2 at work, I won’t work in Guild Wars 2 either.

If you actually were a perfectionist, you would have created a guild were only those good in dungeons were invited. And if you failed 3 times you’d get kicked.

If you party with a horrible PuG you put him on your block list to prevent partying with him ever again.

Basically the whole idea that you’ve been kicked a dozen times sounds pretty ridiculous. If this is true, then the problem is you. Possibly communication issues where you’re trying to join zerker speed runs without zerker gear or 20-30+ fractals without ascended gear. Sure, there are jerks out there that kick people for bad reasons. But if you’ve been kicked over a dozen times, the problem is you.

I hang out with enjoyable people and meet new enjoyable people all the time. I put the few jerks I meet on the block list, pretty simple. This little tirade is simply a reflection of your own attitude, not the community.

I run with my guild using random class compositions and in green gear and I am confident I match or outspeed your pub groups in absolutely every single instance and with no one ever going down. Perfectionism is about pushing yourself and your friends to be great players, not about demanding good gear out of people when your capacity as a player means so much more. If what you say, OP, is really what you’ve learned, then you are far from the perfect player you seek to become and you’ve a long way yet to go. Good luck.

I mean, seriously? For fractals i could understand (somewhat) because they can take longer, but for anything else (especially CoF) where a seasoned player can practically carry 4 new guys, i lack understanding.
I also have the greatest fun and some of the most relaxing runs (because of not taking it kittening serious) with beginners.

If new or inexperienced players have a hard time getting groups that can successfully run dungeons, they will complain both about elitism and how hard the dungeons are. If those numbers become significant enough, ANet might choose to nerf dungeons to accommodate them. Those who are choosing to show players the ropes, who don’t kick anyone who isn’t gaming’s answer to Chuck Norris, might just be doing their bit to keep a modicum of challenge in dungeons.

Doesnt getting that “perfect” group together take more time than actually running CoF 1?

At least some of those CoF1 farm groups are planning to do multiple runs. Such groups are likely farming gold, not tokens.

This. Also if you’re in zerker gear but end up with non-zerkers, you can’t get full dps in. You’ll take too much damage and have to back off or die. The super speed runs only work if everyone is high dps.

You have some fundamental misunderstandings.

You most likely:

Got kicked from COF zerker ONLY farm teams for joining without zerks.
Got kicked from FOTM 20+ requiring AR for not having AR.
Got kicked at the end of Jade Maw for having a bad attitude and abusing your teammates in chat.

Now you’ve turned around after learning all the wrong lessons and kick people for all the wrong reasons. I certainly doubt any thinking team would second any of your kick votes since they are baseless.

I don’t understand why only Zerker gear when that isn’t always the best gear. A good team should have a good mix of gear as Clerics and Knights to name a few others could potentially help kill safer and with using less resources, while putting out almost identical damage numbers.

If you are looking for a design solution to your elitism attitude then you are probably looking at a fractal style design where the new players happily do their things in their group at their level, whilst the elites do their things in their group at their level. The CoF1 model where the new players and the elites mix, both wanting fast easy runs with high rewards, generates the negative attitudes.

Two elements of the GW2 design ethos are also coming together badly. (1) New players immediately have access to endgame content. (2) Skill is more important than equipment and itemization, leading to a big performance gap between high skilled and low skilled (or low experience) players. This means that new players can go into high end content with no itemization but also no skill and fail very badly, something that elites do not want to spend their online time dealing with.

And like I said before I dont’ personally find elitist as a problem, simple because I never meet any unless I’m actively seeking them myself, because “sometimes” those group are indeed smoother and faster.

The truth is if you avoid group with says “require xxx, experienced, speedrun”. You really won’t meet any elitist. And the people I met usually are always very nice people.

Don’t know why but I just can’t stand elitists, people that kick because of inexperience, achievement points, people that expect you to know everything and give you kitten because of the first mistake but at their first sign of a mistake they find something or someone to blame, and specially people that kick because they are rangers/engineers.

I usually just run Arah, i have gotten over 5000 tokens, i have 2 full sets on my necro and when I run path 3 I accept anyone willing to learn. Usually my path 3 runs take about 30 minutes even with new people, much faster than the speed runs I’ve run with the more experienced that don’t like being told what to do. I explain what we are fighting, when we are running. If there’s a thief and a guardian I explain to stack, use shadow refugee and Retreat for any mob skipping we might do. I target mobs that we should focus on and explain to players what skills work best in Arah such as reflection wall for Mages/Hunters. It’s surprising how well the runs go. I consider myself more of a Leader and Guide and you sir are none of this.

The solution to your attitude is simply this: Tell people what you want from them, and keep that list small.

When I make my groups, or when my usual nightly crew take on new people, we have one general rule. Have you run the dungeon before? No? Then be sure to tell us when you don’t know something. In groups that I run, I don’t care if you’ve never run the dungeon, aren’t optimally built, or playing a high burst class (have a friend who is an engineer who would put most warriors to shame when it comes to managing his kit), simply be willing to listen and have a vague understanding of what you’re doing.

What you’re doing is only going to cause you trouble. New players (scrubs, in your terms) do not get better being given the cold shoulder. You want them to do things a certain way? Explain how it should be done and why that way is effective. You need to communicate. If you perhaps get down off your high horse for a few minutes, things would be better.

I’m a hardcore ranger, and quite frankly, I find some of your statements offensive. I think ranger is a good class, if played well. That being said, I do think we could use improvements, but I still beat pre-nerf Arah path 4 with 2 rangers, so our DPS must not be too awful (again, if played correctly).

True, but mesmers in GW1 had the same problem. They were always the strongest profession, yet professions are measured against their worst performance in PUGs, which is very low for rangers and GW1 mesmers.

I have the same with my engineer. My guild loves me, but pugs are a bit more hesitant.

People mostly like having a full zerker group for CoF 1. There may be other areas where a full zerker group will work, but with a lesser success rate.

Lesser success rate? unless we’re talking about high lvl FOTM, there isn’t much content where having a party with ton of zerk warriors would be bad. And in the case of FOTM you’d just replace 2 war with 2 guard and still keep 2 wars and do well.

I don’t really make war only group myself for regular dungeon runs, only CoF farming, but by curiosity I recently joined an Arah run where the guardian who invited me wanted a really, really quick run before reset, and asked only for warriors. We only got warriors, beside that one guardian. The run went perfectly well and Lupicus died rather quickly compared to most of my arah (pug) runs so I’d say it was a success.

All those people who hate on zerk wars are just reenacting The Fox and the Grapes.

I wasn’t hating on zerk warriors, I have a zerk warrior. It’s a fact that the main place people want full zerk warriors is CoF 1. Like I said this setup will also work in other places, however with a lower success rate. This is also fact. Basically anyone in the game can run 5 zerker warriors through CoF 1. Not everyone in the game can run 5 zerker warriors through Arah, thus lower success rate. Also the fact that you had a guardian changes the composition. Guardians can easily take all aggro from Lupi and survive it, I do it all the time. I have a bit harder time surviving constant aggro from Lupi on my warrior. But even with 5 zerk warriors, obviously it can be done, however with a lower success rate compared to CoF 1. Pretty simple.

Seems you were the only person that didn’t get it. What you did was take his post at face value. Everyone else was able to read between the lines.

He says he became an elitist because other elitists were treating him badly. Ignoring the hypocrisy in just that, try to look at what he was saying he was kicked a dozen times for. If you learn to read between the lines, you’ll see he was trying to join groups that want certain specifics when he did not have those specifics. There are plenty of groups doing the same content that do not ask for specifics, those are who he should have joined.

Furthermore, if you read between the lines, you’ll realize English is most likely not his native language, there is a bit of a language barrier going on. This is most likely what led him to joining the wrong groups and led him to believe he was being kicked for the wrong reasons.

Then he turns around, learning all the wrong lessons, and propels those wrong lessons at innocent bystanders.

Next time, try reading between the lines a little.

Thankfully, I’ve managed to not turn to the darkside after much abuse from elitists who always want to finish content a specific way and with specific group compositions.

But then I’m not really hungry for gold. I’m not rich but then I’ve got 4 lvl 80s most of which have 2-3 exotic builds to swap to. No legendaries, one half-ascended. I tend to play the game for the fun and challenge, not to get the goodies at the end. I’m actually confused why people are so bent on amassing gold. Yeah, sometimes I do farm so I can convert gold into gems for purchases I don’t want to spend real cash on, but beyond that, why bother? For legendaries? But they’re not all that legendary. I’ve seen too many people walking around with Sunrise, Bolt, Dreamer, etc to consider it ‘special’. Not worth grinding to the point I’m hating on people’s skill/playstyle/profession choice.

Is playing a Ranger an issue in the current state of the game?

That’s funny, I’ve never once had an issue in dungeons…

Anyway, you should probably feel bad about the way you go about it rather than that you act that way. I mean sure, you’re being a kitten, but you have some very minor justification. However, you should probably look to form those groups specifically with that in mind rather than just gathering a PUG, letting people join and then kicking them out after the fact.

Like when rest of the team was on ledge against Crusher and I pushed him up and he killed 3 of them.
Also Lupicus used to be so funny. I mean how elite they can be if my meleeing somehow messes up their stacking and gameplay?

I’m grinding gold for a legendary because I like the skin. I don’t necessarily consider it special nor do I see legendaries as giving prestige. I just like to make my character look pretty! However, I’ll not take the mackiavellian route of the end justifies the means to get there. I’ll get there on my own time and have fun doing it.

I love elitist groups. It always makes me feel good when they rage-quit, it’s just too funny.

Also Lupicus used to be so funny.

If I ever group with you, I’m going to be looking for any possible way of getting you killed >_>

I have similar interests in you when it comes to elitist pugs, whether that is four other randoms or from the same guild. Pretending to suck (or just simply having a “lazy day”) does have somewhat humorous side effects. For me, I’m not as elitist as I used to be. Those days of talking down at 24 other people in a raid group to get stuff done is long behind me now. Every time I look back at that, I just simply laugh at it; and laugh at those who expresses that sort of thing in party chat.

Often times, I’m usually the first one who walks into the dungeon so even if I were to get kicked because of something that would shatter their fragile ego, the whole ship gets sunken. I guess having 5k+ achievement points, a legendary, and the Dungeon Master title would at least say “Hey! This one doesn’t look like a nub! I guess we can trust ’em in owning the instance.” At least until I find out that I forgot my morning caffeine fix. The combination of 2-vote kicks to me, and instance ownership does end up with some hilarious results of questionable tastes. Honestly, those two features should be fixed to prevent deliberate griefing, but that’s a totally different thread all together.

In regards to Arah p3 in general, I do remember somehow luring the Crusher to the “Exploit Lamp Post” and such a way that he does eventually hit everyone standing on top of it. I wish I had a video capture of that, because it was hilarious when the entire party wiped from just a single attack.

Meleeing Lupi, however, is something I’m not bothered about anymore. I know some people are capable of meleeing him and getting away with it. Some might freak out about it at first considering how risky it is, but the way I see it is this: if you know what you’re doing, then go nuts; but if we all wipe, then most of us would probably blame the odd one in the group first. As with me, I’m always looking to see if something could be done more efficiently, often times with hefty risks involved. However, I realize that some people may not be on the same elevated field as me, so I’ll have to step down a bit so that I can help them get to my level.

In regards to the OP, I believe the proper word for that is “Elitist”. At least perfectionists still have some cognitive reasoning left in them, while elitists are a totally different world full of sugar, rainbows, and rage. I know my coworker is some sort of perfectionist and that certain things have to be done a certain way with certain tools and/or procedures. However, he can still be reasonable and take in some constructive criticism when needed. Elitists, on the other hand, have some very fragile egos and any form of criticism tends to strike even the most sensitive cords.

I think you were the guy that left our group a few days ago because there was a noob in there that couldn’t run from crusher to 2nd boss in path 3. Of course we all got kicked.

You all are misinterpreting this post anyways. Seems to me he/she is saying that elitist/perfectionist turned him into one. Seriously people, try to read between the lines. Most of you are totally missing the point here. I for one see it… kitten I am glad I ain’t an elitist or perfectionist. I just enjoy whats left of the kitten game.

You are the one that failed to read between the lines.

The point is he’s not an elitist but an uninformed charlatan pretending to be an elitist.

He learned all the wrong lessons after being kicked from his teams for legitimate reasons that he didn’t understand and is now inflicting his ignorance on others for illegitimate reasons.

It can’t be me since I haven’t pugged Arah in over a week, but even then, I rarely ever leave a dungeon if someone in the group is a bit slow. I’m usually very patient. If I end up leaving prematurely, it’s usually because someone in the group decided to boot me just to be funny.

In your case, that’s an example of a “rage-quit”, which is something that I rarely ever do; even if I were to rage-quit, the entire party (not just one person) would be very very bad for that to happen.

Ah okay sorry about that but yeah, we had a guy that of course entered first, we killed crusher fine but we had a guy that wasn’t very good, this guy himself died on the run and after his second death he just said that the not-so-good player was a moron and left the group kicking us all out.
