So I was wondering if anyone else was having these problems with the Raids.

I am going as a zerker chrono, I specify that, and I ask for 1 tank, 1 support, 7 dps (4 power, 3 condi) and an other that can be dps or a hybrid of some sorts, not straight up tanky, another healer is fine. This I find is a well-balanced team similar to something from other games that have the trinity.

So I ask people for power builds, condi builds, etc, get a team after confirming what everyone says their role is, and go into the raid.

We get to the first boss easy, and that’s when I notice aggro is getting super weird, boss is running around to much making it hard to melee, and damage is way to low. I ask our dps what armor stats their running. I have one zerker and the rest are soldier… they said it was power dps build that is viable.

Assassin and Zerker are some of the only acceptable dps armors, Valkyrie for specific classes and runes, but what I am getting as is that anything with TOUGHNESS or HEALING POWER should not claim to be dps. For power DPS you need of course power and I was say either ferocity OR precision, both is optimal for power dps but you can get away with vitality, or something close (I dont know all the armor types, sorry.) However toughness gear begins to fight the tank for aggro, and we are also losing out damage.

Condi has less armor types to pick between I understand, but those are increasing, honestly avoiding rabid’s will probably be the best thing. What I am getting at in the end is that people seem to think zerker meta being “dead” means you don’t need any zerkers to dps…

I have always been for the play-your-way style, I ran cleric necro with friends occasionally and played my mesmer for pugs and speedrun groups when I wanted to do that. I understand the appeal of wanting to use a new armor type in new content but people need to mention what they’re wearing and what role they want to filll accurately. This DPS timer is easy to get past when you have a group that is primarily DPS with very little support and tank builds, the same way other MMO’s are designed. But I cannot get past the dps timer because we don’t have enough damage in the slightest because half the “power dps” builds i get are soldiers or something similar. If people don’t want to have inspect options become a thing they have to learn how to advertise themselves.

TL;DR Zerker meta is dead, but you still need a kitten ton of zerkers and other DPS armor types to do well, with one tank and maybe 2 healers, as any other mmo has. Soldiers doesn’t count as power DPS.

Marauder > Valkyrie for anyone but a necromancer, zealot’s a pretty good compromise if you’re going to have someone dedicated to healing using it instead of just cleric gear.

I know this is an issue for 3 years. What I am saying is the problem has escalated and it’s gotten to a point where people don’t know what “DPS” is. Just earlier on reddit someone complained that they were kicked for telling people they were dps when running soldiers, and they HONESTLY thought they were in the right, even though they were running soldiers. Before the problem was that everyone knew Zerker was meta, now Zerker and maybe 2 to 3 other armor types are the DPS meta and people dont seem to realize that anything with toughness, vitality, etc can’t really be considered DPS unless a niche build. (example being Valkyrie Necro… however I doubt there are any niche dps builds with toughness).

Yeah I’ve been pretty surprised by how many bad players there are lately.

This knowledge isn’t readily available unless you frequent reddit and metabattle, if only there was a way people could learn the proper way to play from the game itself.

This problem has existed since the dawn of MMOs. Its your fault for not being aware of such a old and basic occurrence.

Problem 1: You’re pugging. Pugs aren’t inherently bad, but you have to be a lot more meticulous in investigating players if you want to succeed…and even then it’s really a gamble on whether that player is any good or not.

Problem 2: You need to ask what everyone’s toughness value is before you start any encounters

I’m not surprised at all. Most good players that want to be serious in raid have a team or are building a team. A group of 10 people that will be able to raid on a regular basis. Most even have 2-3 other people able to replace if needed. What’s left? Serious players that for whatever reason can’t create or join a 10 man team, and pugs that ain’t that serious and think that it’s just another content. A lot of those people will stop doing raid in a couple of weeks/months, complaining on the forums that they get kicked, that the raid community is toxic, that Anet need to do something and that they quit.

or before going in a pug, ask everyone’s toughness, then healing, and finally utility, because more often then not, someones bringing solo utility instead of party utility.

example:A DH has purification, yes its the best heal(raw), but it doesnt save someone else when the time arises, on the other hand receive the light is awesome even if not a healer.
