Me and some friends play dungeons together, and will use VoiP for some of them.

Ive noticed:

1. CoE – Beggining mobs in hallway. The SAME mob dropped a Corrupted Lodestone for ME AND MY FRIEND. We both run 0 MF. Coincidence Much?

2. CoE – Often times (Not always) when he gets a Charged Core from a chest, I will also get a charged core.

3. CoF – Often times when a chest gives me a yellow (Which is semi-rare), my friends will come up with a yellow.

4. Fractals – Often times when I get a yellow from a end chest (non-maw), my friend will get the EXACT same yellow from the endchest

Seems like when you enter, the loot is pre-determined or something… Am I onto something? Or am i crazy?

These experiences are not outside the bounds of what one can expect from random number generation. In World of …, if a mob dodged or blocked an attack, it often dodges or blocks the next one also. This happened often enough that I remember it. As to getting the same drops, the loot tables in GW2 are not as varied as would be ideal. How many rare weapon drops at L80 are Traveler’s XX of Air?

It could be, but as long as it’s predetermined by the RNG it makes no difference.

Don’t forget lucky streaks! I had an awesome one my last fractal run. It was one of the most tiring fractals runs I had in a long time! The group just didn’t gel and we just had a sequence of very bad luck to compound our group inability to work together. But OMG it was such an awesome run for me personally for loot!

Chest #1 – Exotic back piece
Chest #2 – Exotic Spear (and I needed one for my newly 80 Necromancer too!)
Chest #3 – Exotic Heavy Helmet
Maw Chest – charged core

Didn’t get anything from the Daily chest but after leaving fractal noticed that I had also picked-up a couple of rares that salvaged to give me ectos, which I desperately needed. That was the luckies run of RNG I ever had! A good way to balance out what was a really painful fractal run.

My brain is shagging under the weight of changes… having six characters was not a good idea!

RNG is RNG. What’s predetermined (well, not really, more like determined) is from what loot table you’ll be selecting. The higher the MF, the better loot table you’ll be getting (well at least this is the current theory). I could be mistaken ofc.

Forget the RNG part, I just wish they would fix the loot tables. There is no reason for 5 level 80 characters to go into a dungeon and get mostly level 35 loot (yes I know AC explorable is level 35). We are constantly getting the back pieces, rings and amulets, and they are always the level 35 version.

Actually, why not? When you get downlevel’d, while you do have the chance to get level-appropriate items, you also have the chance to get the area-appropriate item. Dungeons would probably not be any different.

actually in guild wars 1, it was!

People did some crazy experiments with zoning into zones at the exact same time. They found that people who entered the same zone at the same time got the exact same (or very similar – same stats, modifiers and weapon type but sometimes different requirements) loot. Same amount of blues and yellows, same amount of crafting mats and so on.

Basically the monsters were dropping the same loot if you entered the instance at the exact same time as another person. Now the timing had to be literally exact. Being off by even a few milliseconds meant vastly different loot, but it definitely was interesting.

I’d be curious to see if the same loot system is in place here, but i’d be surprised if it was. For starters in gw1 everywhere was instanced, so I doubt openworld drops work the same, and as for dungeons, I believe it would only be substantial proof if you were in different dungeon instances.

But it is actually plausible. Highly unlikely, but plausible.

Being a coder I can say that this is entirely possible, b/c in general random number generators are generally speaking based off a “seed” which is usually a tone stamp. If two rngs have the same seed, they will iterate through the same sequence of random numbers.

I think it’s mostly RNG. However sometimes I tend to think there’s a bug with some things. Like the underwater fractals level. I’ve only ever gotten a rare trident from that chest, which would be fine seeing it’s underwater, I’m assuming tridets, spearguns, spears have a higher chance in the loot table. However, when I do get the rare, I always get TWO rares. So I either get no rares, or 2 rare tridents. I don’t run it a lot, but enough to see it’s very strange

RIP in peace Robert

As much as the ‘RNG preachers’ would like to tell you you’re crazy; chances are that you aren’t.

In GW1, tests were conducted were two or more people would enter their own version of the same instance at the same time. They would kill the same mobs, and they would receive the same loot as each other from the same mobs.

I’m not saying that GW2 follows the same thing; but it’s possible. This would most likely only apply to instances. I’m sure some clever people with the required knowledge could do some cool stuff, if they are predetermined loot drops.

Ive been playing since release, and neither me nor my guild has seen this occur when we have been running dungons and fractals.
