Q:

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on survivability on the CoF Path 2 Magg defend scenario. [Suicide cycle]

Facts I know -

  • Dodge, twice, works sometimes.
  • Keep running around.
  • I even change to sword/dagger in this section cause I can use Flanking strike to evade, but only around thrice.

Other than the above stated, I was wondering if anyone had any advice on this matter.

The bomb part is defendable now. So have your group Kill the waves for as long as possible before you start kiting. Focus on the SmokeLord first. And then any other ranged mobs that spawn. By the time you have to start kiting, it’s all melee mobs which makes it much easier.

As a sin, get your dodges and blinds. Also your group stealth- for stealth on Magg if you’re the only person left in the room, buy some time for ur members to walk back.

If doing a suicide line, i usually sit back as a “failsafe” with Shadow Refuge ready to stealth Magg for 10 seconds…that is a huge time available to save him and remove aggro from him…if you’re actually inside killing, as Eve said…smokelord first…but your real bread and butter will be Shadow Refuge, which can be the turning tide in this fight..im a glass cannon, and thats basically all I hope to accomplish in this fight until a heavier member gets back to eat the aggro off of me

What our group does is:

-Nuke the crap out of the first smokelord and take down the 2 shadowblades if possible
-Fight the next wave as well as we can
-Start kiting in later stages

I’ve run two different builds for this, signets and stealths

With Critical Strikes traits for signets, you can have your entire hotbar loaded with signets (the heal and 3 utilities) and keep your initiative pool high (especially if you have a good crit rate, as you get 1 back for a crit 20% of the time). Stay at a decent range with a shortbow, and as soon as you see tells for an attack, hit Disabling Shot. You can keep your evasion up potentially for AGES, especially if you also have 5 Trickery as well. You could keep Shadow Refuge for if things get a little messy.

With stealths, I simply run the initiative for stealth equivalent to Critical Strikes in Shadow Arts and max out my Acrobatics as well, and use a lot of C+D to remove aggro and quickly regain it again with a BS. Blinding Powder, Shadow Refuge and Shadow Trap are what I use for this. You can keep Magg and yourself safe extremely well with this setup.

i manage to end that part of the dungeon fairly easy. right now im playing a condition build so what we do is get the mobs together. we put a lot of aoe focusing on ranged magic casters. i use caltrops signet of shadows to blind foes and if something goes wrong use shadow refugee on mag, this will give the party enough time to come back to the fight

Under Shadow Arts spend 10 points and get Master of Deception, this will lower the cooldown of Shadow Refuge by 20%.

Honestly, shadow Refuge is huge in this fight, I did a run that had 3 thiefs and it went pretty well, just got to time it correctly and cast it over magg while you are near him.

Also not sure if anyone mentioned but I also use my thieves to divert attention away, as well as (Shortbow) for Infiltrators Arrow as it allows you to shadowstep away and blind the enemy..

Definitely try kill the packs for as long as possible, if things start to go south then start kiting. Granted i do this with a guild group but we have 1 pug on occasion and we always killed everything except maybe the last pack or two and maybe 1 or 2 people die once if at all.

Actually did this with a warrior pug yesterday(making 2 warriors in the group) and we killed every mob, the warrior pug commented that it was his first time doing that event the legit way and it was far more enjoyable. However your mileage may vary.

rickets 80 elementalist
crickits 80 ranger
crickets 80 warrior – current main

Do not sacrifice firepower for survivability in your skill setup. You need to have sufficient attribute for survivability (don’t all out berserker/rampager), and make sure your weapon/utility setups is geared for firepower instead of survivability. Either fit into a dps or control role. Do not go support role. If you do it this way, you should be fine.

Unfortunately, I have yet to do the bomb room with my thief. The above suggestion is based on my experiences as a ranger. I will be doing it soon with thief, but the general idea is the same; you have to stand your ground while sacrificing the least amount of damage output. This means anything that causes large dps drops (evasion-centric, support) is not that great here. While the fight is long (200 seconds), treat it as individual small skirmishes, and do not spec for a long fight. Instead, spec for shorter fights (more burst) and go from there.

The group I run with has ran this path 3 times so far since easy days. Each time, we got better at it. Yesterday, we were able to fight to 100%. 2-3 downed, 0 death.
