Thiefs are bad in high level fractals ?
Someone told me that thiefs are bad in level fractals.
Is he right ?
Not exactly. There are many fractals that a thief could fare very well in, even optimally. For example the final boss of the Chaos fractal is optimal for daredevils. They can provide super high dps while dodging his crippling attack without having a damage loss.
There are other encounters though, such as Mai Trin or the Underground Facility fractal or the Thaumanova Anomaly that are much much easier for classes that have good ranged options. Thief ranged options are quite mediocre.
Basically though, Condies/Ranged classes make pretty much every fractal about 10x easier than doing it with melee.
T4 fractals all power based damage goes down by about 30% due to armor scaling. Not to mention high power based builds are notoriously squishy and get sort of demolished fast if you lose track of stuff and this also gets amplified by having slower endurance regeneration. So if you take a look at a lot of groups in LFG, there’s a decent amount of people asking for condi and necro only now.
That being said, venom share is actually really good if you can pull it off right and it’s a very good build for T4 as well as a niche role in raids. Just don’t run power unless you want to kitten yourself on T4. If you do not know how hard condi trashes power builds for T4, I can provide footage as well.

Thieves are trash everywhere.
All they bring is damage. They’re a very selfish class with utilities. They’re amazing roaming in WvW if you want to be a disease though.

The recent changes to their venomshare was made to make them more useful to a team? Think of it this way: right now, thief brings very good cc utility in raids(750 CC units). Not to mention they’re useful for stealth in the first place, as well as constant blind fields in mob-heavy encounters.

The game has a lot of complex things you can do to support and counter things, but ultimately, conditions are so broken you can just spread them in an AoE and watch everything slowly die without caring at all.
Stealth is useless and mostly applies to themselves. Were it useful, engineers outclass them.
CC? Why waste the utility of another class with some CC and damage? All classes have CC, you hardly even need CC if every class present drops their CC. Breakbars are only an issue if people aren’t doing their jobs. They’re worthless in fractals to even pay attention to.

im seconding this post

Umm, no. The new Chaos fractal is a good example, if everyone just tosses a quick CC he’s cake, if they don’t then you have to run a mile to get out of the AoE, seems quite useful to me.

I mean.
Sure. It’s still a case of “why even bother” when you can stability/dodge it. It has a massive telegraph.
All melee and power classes demand 100% in range damage. If for 4/5s of the fight you’re not even on the boss (a la Chaos Fractal) then your effective DPS is cut into 1/5 of what it should be. Why? Because conditions in general are simply broken in PvP and outside of it. Anet rewards people for lazy play rather than using power/the class’s skills.

Agreed with many of the other poster… T4 = condi or gtfo… I always run with 4~5 necro and possibly 1 support for more dmg (ps war or druid).
every class is viable in fractals as long as you know what you’re doing

Much easier to press 3 buttons than 20 and actually have to react.
Thanks condi meta.

Are you implying the power meta is any different?

i think power meta is more engaging at t4 levels since you can’t really explode stuff that hard anymore.
