Top Ranged Dps?
Well, people here are just going to call you bad for wanting to use ranged. Anyway, from what I’ve heard (and I could be wrong because I don’t actually have any experience with it), staff ele is very good for ranged DPS if you spec full zerker, but it’s VERY squishy.
I think fire+staff ele is the only class/weapon combo that can bring good DPS at range… aside from engie nades i mean, but engie dps is pretty low compared to other classes. Range dps in general is pretty bad though.

Ele staff or scepter/focus would be okay and welcomed but if some other profession went full range I would probably kick if I was going for a full DPS group.
To have good DPS as an ele you need to be very glassy which means 0 or 10 points in arcana, water trait lines (20 in arcana if you want blasting staff). Scepter/focus is good for swirling winds but that’s really it IMO.

Scepter+anything brings kittenty dps without LH from what i’ve noticed.

I can’t understand why you would want to make yourself worse…Ranged and support are both bad. By doing more dps your supporting your team WAY more than you ever could by healing from 1200 range…

Oh you don’t have to be a one trick pony. You can run full cleric gear with your LB as a shout warrior. But just expect to be punted so quick, you’d swear you were watching a Jaguars’ game. Either get a group of friends who don’t mind doing fractals 5 times slower, or roll ele for range!

You can run staff on ele, but you should only go ranged when everyone ranges – like dredge power suit or imbued shaman. You melee or range as a group, never (or very rarely, I can’t think of an example) mix the two. Think of range/melee as techniques for dealing with an encounter, not as class rolls. It’s not that everyone is a “one trick pony”, it’s that positioning is not an element that differentiates classes.
I agree with the above, scepter itself has pretty crappy dps. S/d might stacking rotation has good burst damage but that’s at close range, and works best when used between conjures.
