Totally noob
Much of that is about exp modes not being easy to farm, you’d be doing story mode first. Don’t expect your first go to be faceroll and you should be fine. Bring condition clearing and trait for defense.
You have to clear the Story Mode in order to gain access to the Explorable Mode.
Story Mode is really easy, no big deal.
Explorable Mode is not easy if you don’t know/understand well the mechanics of the game.
But from my perspective it’s more a matter of the group/players rather than the content difficulty.
You just need to find some chill people to do Exp with. I, and I think many people now, don’t really care for AC as long as you’re over 35.
Alright thanks, that’s nice to know. I was mostly also thinking of story mode first obviously ^^ Time to do some dungeoning then I think!
I’ve seen a good engineer soloing Lupi in Arah for a while, so I don’t think you need a fully deck warrior level 80 to do AC.
Like timecookie said. It’s more about the group. If you have a patient group and you’re a patient person too then there won’t be a problem in the dungeons. The big challenge is to find a relaxed group.
If you don’t want to go completely blind you can check text/video guides (for example http://guildwars.incgamers.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?244-Guild-Wars-2-PvE)

So basically I’ve been playing a bit GW2 recently, and I’ve now got an engineer which is about level 43, which is my highest level character.
I was starting to think that maybe it could be fun to try some dungeon stuff, but I’ve read a lot of horror stories here on the forums about having to be a fully decked out lvl 80 warrior in order to do any dungeons at all.. So would it make sense to try getting into it or is dungeons basically not an option? :o
I think you have to take everything you read on the forums with a grain of salt. Not to mention check out different forums. I find some of the opinion expressed in this particular forum to be a bit too extreme. Needing to be 80 and in full exotics to do explorable mode being one of them. You do need level appropriate gear, i.e. not wear level 35 items when you are level 50+ and doing level 50+ dungeons but people do dungeons to get exotic gear, they don’t need exotics to do dungeons. Fractals is the only dungeon where you need to be in full exotics before you set foot in the dungeon.
If you are level 43, you should definitely do AC story and CM story. Also, as some people have mentioned, the speed runners aside, most people are pretty chill about taking folks level 35+ into AC explorable and 45+ into CM explorable. I.e. as long as you meet the basic level requirement, most people will take you. However, and I cannot emphasis this enough, your party is taking you in good faith and so you should join in good faith as well.
Basically that means that make sure you are not badly under-geared and your traits are upto date. You have invested in skill purchase and generally have a good handle on your class etc.
Also, if you need a guide, just advertise for one on gw2lfg.com. A lot of people are happy to help and guide in a patient manner. A guide does help in there.

Don’t bother.
Just get to 80 first, it’s easy anyway.

I disagree. You will not do yourself or your teammates any favours by being a nub 80 who has never been inside a dungeon. More importantly, without early dungeon experience you are not going to be able to fully understand your class and all its potentials.
It is NOT magically easier to do dungeons at 80. If a level 80 finds dungeons easier, it is because they understand their class better. But you are not going to understand your class within the dungeon setting if you don’t do dungeons until you hit 80. So in my humble opinion, you are better off doing at least story mode as they come-up. I.e AC at 30, CM at 40, TA at 50 etc.

you heard right my friend, your engineer class is of no use sadly.
as necro,thief and rangers.
I levelled my first character from 5x to 80 and my second from 35 to 80 almost exclusively through explorable modes of AC, CM and TA. I intend to do the same once I get my third character to 35. Don’t listen to these elitist ‘level 80 full exotics over 9,000 achievement points required’ whiners. The forum posters are not representative of the GW2 community. Most of them who come here with horror stories probably don’t know how to dodge.
If you’re in an NA server and are around level 45, I’m happy to take you on an AC or CM run if we’re ever online at the same time. Give dungeons a go with a more open-minded party and if you decide you don’t like it – at least you’ve tried it and you know what it takes to see a run through.

Hehe I was hoping it wasn’t representative on that point at least
Unfortunately I’m on the EU servers, it’s a shame you can’t guest other regions really.. but thanks for the offer though!
And thanks for the replies everyone, I will definitely give it a try on story mode at least when I got a few hours to play uninterrupted
If you’re on EU, then give me a shout (SR). I’m in a small group of players that are looking to start going through the dungeons at various levels and have a laugh whilst doing it, regardless of preferred class (we’ve done a few runs of AC and CoF). We met through a story run so if there’s a few of us on, I’ll let you know.
We’re nowhere near good or perfect, but we don’t give up until we have to. As for AC, we’re having serious issues getting that sorted atm, as we can’t deal the damage quick enough for p1, but we’re fine with the bosses and p2, unless the spawns glitch.
Good luck dungeon running
