So, after smashing my head against the brick wall that is the Twilight Arbor Aetherpath, I have to ask. Does anybody actually think this is a fun dungeon? Is this kind of nonsense the kind of thing i can expect from other dungeons?

If you’re expecting to spam 1 and win in this dungeon like open world then you’re sorely mistaken, same goes for all dungeons, if that’s what you want to do, then yes, you can expect that kind of thing in other dungeons.

TA Aetherpath is very different from other dungeons by having bosses that attempt to keep you from stacking and facerolling the bosses (not that you can’t).

If you actually bother to learn the mechanics then yes, it can be somewhat fun, especially the first few times. And you probably won’t party wipe even once. Unfortunately, 99% of PuGs are people from open world who want to spam 1 on bosses and get loot, that doesn’t work, so if you’re trying to PuG it is pretty painful.

7 months later, i still go to Aetherpath daily It’s imo the most fun dungeon to go with a group, because you need coordination, teamwork and not just spam skill 1, like Magic said.

However, Anet just broke it with this update, and the event after final boss, the one where you need to destroy 3 ships… well, you can’t destroy 2 of them. I hope a fix comes soon, otherwise it’s game-breaking since you can’t efectively complete the achievements in there.

I only did it one 5 days ago, we failed consistently at sparki and slick for about 2 hours (always tried to kill Slick first…), after that we invited two experienced players and did it in 45 minutes…
Propably the must fun i had since a long time, and i will definitely do it again, especially because dungeons are not affected by this kittening megaserver system…

Now for another viewpoint:

I like Aetherpath in so much as I’m with other players who know how to do it. However, even then, it is not anywhere near my favorite.

In reality, loot wise, it is terrible GPS. it is not worth it, unless you are actually enjoying the puzzles, the gimmicks, the scenery, or the RP immersion. Personally, I feel sick every time I think about it, because I miss the path it replaced more than anything in the game. That was my favorite path.

Other dungeons generally don’t have the “puzzles for the sake of puzzles” that Aetherpath does. They are also much shorter and in general, more rewarding for your time. As the above posters indicate, dungeons are not ever the face roll you see in open world (well, at least not at first). The mobs hit harder, the bosses hate harder, and you have to use your dodges. Aetherpath is just a longer dungeon in comparison, and you have to experience every mob kill, basically full clearing the path. This is not the case for most dungeons.

ANet need to buff the rewards. Aetherblade is more or less as difficult as Arah, and it makes no sense AC gets 1.5g while this one only gets 2g, while you can do all AC paths in less times than you’d do one Aetherblade path. Actually, you can probably do Arah in less time and get 3g then Aetherblade, assuming all party members are experienced in both.

Who seriously expects to just spam 1? That’d be boring. I haven’t done a lot of dungeons but the other 2 paths in Twilight Arbor are nothing like the Aetherpath. They’re actually fun, even!

stacking and facerolling is actually the quickest/safest way to handle those fights though.

Hell the final boss of the path, you’re literally told to facerub him so he wont throw the gears at you.

The dungeon is fine. The only problem is that it is long and can’t be skipped as easily. This means players don’t go there. This means that common knowledge tactics never accumulate. This means players find it hard. All the other dungeons are just as hard without the common knowledge tactics but you rarely find a group without any tactics (except for Arah which is lost to the path sellers).

In my opinion this is the most enjoyable dungeon ingame. After yout got known good tactics with your guild members you can easily complete the dungeon in 20-25 minutes. Also the chest at the end can drop with much luck one of the rarest twilight weapons. In comparison with guild wars 1 you can have luck and get rich. Or not.

Unskippable cutscenes? No thanks. Especially if you’re going to have so little new content that players are expected to run the same content over and over and over…

Yeah… and not. After 175 runs, i only melee’d it once. The other times i had SO MUCH FUN in that fight spamming gears. It’s really enjoyable, running around, dodging the attacks. I would do a 5 hours fight against him in there! it’s epic.

All you need? Positional awareness, wich it highly improves the skill of any player. That fight is great to build up your positional awareness.

According to that logic you shouldn’t run Fractals (playing devil’s advocate here).

I did it once and haven’t been back. I’d like to go finish the achievements but a bunch of them have to be done after the dungeon is technically sort of ALREADY FINISHED. So people who are experienced aren’t going to want to bother doing those parts, just hanging out in there even longer for no extra reward. That is what happened the one time I did it actually. Got to the “end” and half the group left. Seems like more trouble than its worth.

actually for doing above and beyond you get reward chest + you can go open 5 hidden chests

You don’t even need full group, it take 2 players to do it if they know how.

1 follow caithe. The other one kills captain and jump down to defend npcs. The one at caithe do ships when he finishes, then they 2 join in the Waypoint at 5:00. you only need 3:00 minutes or less to do chests… so they 2 together do chests. Piece of cake.

I once did almost solo. 1 person went to def lionguards. I killed captain, helped Caithe, used EMP grenades and then opened all chests xD if you are engi, you can probably solo whole thing by placing turrets at lionguards
