Only did TA exp for the 500 tokens I needed for the gift of thorns but every single time I came to this point in the dungeon I would be the main target for the Wurm circles. If I am in range of their attacks I will be surounded by circles and they will not stop attacking me until I die. The annoying thing is there is like 4 other people randomize it abit. I took SS of when I was out of the range of the wurms and they would just wait staring at everyone else and as soon as I get in range they attack.

Is there a trick to this because it just seems racist to rangers.

On that fight wurms priorize ranged users first (along with a few other weapon sets, like guardian hammer, ele dagger and so on). Mainly why people use that 4 melee 1 ranged strategy at pugs.

Might be true regarding the ranged as that’s opposite of how aggro actually works, so it would be easily reversed, but I can’t see the AI being strong enough to prioritise one professions weapon set over another.

As for OP, why are you ranging anyway, it’s no secret melee is better.

You likely can’t see the circles because of your horrible draw distance, I can guarentee you there is no safe bit of ground near the champion.

If 4 people melee and only 1 ranged keeps aggro, all the area is safe as long as that guy keeps the aggro. You can even duo without taking damage with one person going afk if you want. It may not work like that for every other part of the game, but for that fight, it is as it is.

And yes, there are a few weapon sets that may count as “ranged” or whatever the programming is that draws aggro, some with higher priority than others but still.

From my mind weapon sets that draws aggro:

Warrior – Rifle / longbow
Guardian – Hammer (low priority) / staff / scepter
Mesmer – Greatsword / phantasms / clones / scepter / staff
Engineer – Grenade kit (low priority) / rifle / pistol
Elementalist – Pretty much every set but with low priority
Necromancer – Staff / scepter
Thief – Shortbow / pistol (low priority)
Ranger – Shortbow / longbow / a few leap skills (1h sword iirc, don’t have a ranger)

Some adds gets the aggro as well, like asura offensive golem, thieves guild because of the pistol add and so on.

I may have forgot one set or another but using any of these while everyone else is doing melee will get the preference in aggro.

On the case of the original poster, aggro was being switched probably because the mesmers kept spawning illusions and phantasms, ele kept only low priority and guardian going melee probably wasn’t drawing it as well. So, everytime the ranger was in line of sight with the vines, he would be called as target.

They seem to aggro ranged players so reason why 1 to 2 players aggro on purpose while the other 4/3 melee them down. Usually 2 is best since they’ll switch targets so the dodging player can have enough time to gain endurance.

Copy n paste from different post I posted on.

“Should be able to clearly see how it was intended to be done in this video.

Now most groups keep 1 person in a safe spot up top or on vines near the up path to hold argo of the boss and respawns allowing 4 others to melee it down easily. If no one in your group knows of either safe spot or of how range holds argo and you don’t have a group with a lot of dps then you should do it the way in the video."

If you can understand what fkay is saying its the best advice, his TA group is by far the best I’ve ever played with. They TA all day
