This is a 2 part question. I am trying to help a fellow player and get different insight on tackling the first enemies (dogs) and up to the husk mobs upon starting the instance.

Normally our tactic is to run completely to the boss room. We clear most of the blossoms up to the dogs and begin the run. I usually run ahead and run toward the Husk to help pull them away from the rest of the group. Popping the Dolyak to get stability and prevent there perma knockdown. This tactic has been very successful with pugs and other guildmates. Grant it can be problematic if someone dies on Nightmare vines and has to run back through (which I might change up the tactic to killing the husk)

So the players question to me last night was. "Why don’t we just kill the dogs and work our way to the husk and kill the husk making the run through much easier for me since playing as a necro I don’t have skills that grant swiftness or stability (the player is not spec’d into 3 sec. death shroud stability trait)

I have found trying to pull the dogs out of the blossom room is extremely difficult and the dogs tend to reset. If 2 of the dogs leap on a person it brings you down very low on HP and if a blossom hits too you it’s a instant down state. Of course fighting the dogs in the room is even more difficult because of the amount of blossoms all over the place and needing room to move to avoid leap attacks from the dogs while trigger poison all over the place killing the entire party.

Is there an way to best tackle taking down the dogs or is it just something best to run past?

As a necro if you pug into a TA group and they suggest run pass the dogs. Is it extremely difficult for you to do so or what skills can help get you past? I suggested using a Staff for the Fear skill and using Chill to slow the dogs.

I know if I can get the friend past the dogs the Husk can be taken out without much of a problem.

Of course I can’t go to the friend and tell them, “Your doing it wrong”, or “Learn your class.” I want to be able to provide good suggestions.

Thanks

AOE blinds is a very good way to deal with these dogs.

As a guardian I can ensure three AOE blinds on engage and enough blocks and follow up blinds to last until rally range.

We usually skip everything in the instance beside those dogs, as they are extremely annoying to run past solo.

As a necro you have two blind skills to deal with the dog. Well of Darkness will give you 5 seconds. Plagueform blindness will give you 20 seconds. In 25 seconds, you guys should be able to at least kill half the dogs.

Thank you both for the suggestions. I’ll mention the blindness from Well of Darkness and Plagueform. I knew Nerco’s are the only class that can provide all of the different conditions but I just didn’t know the skills well enough.

Having a guardian with a staff in that room is pure genius on clearing those blossoms too.

If someone wants to do the dungeon properly or doesn’t like to bug mobs you should oblige them. Dungeons are about the challenge, if the mobs are proving a challenge then brilliant, more fun to be had.
And yes i know the dog packs, and yes we kill them and the first husk every time.

The dogs are annoying when people die and have to run back. With a necro you can aoe blind and we usually just aoe the dogs down. My party runs with mainly rare-MF gear and can take the dogs down fairly quickly, so gear is not necessary for taking out the dogs.

The attack patterns of the dog NPC is fairly simple. It only leaps on targets its fairly close too. Slowing and snaring them will keep you from getting rolled. The dogs have no long range abilities that are threatening. It will save your party way more time by taking 1 minute to clear them then having to wait on stragglers who keep getting caught by the dogs. Since most people have been skipping adds, they really don’t understand, these dogs aren’t too much of a threat from afar. Its when you run up to them and stand in their faces not knowing what they do. If you have melee classes, as long as they strafe and dodge, the dogs are no biggie.

Dogs: Stand in the waterfall. Have a Guardian or another class do AOE stability.
Husk: Basically use Stability, kill them quick.

Never had any trouble killing the dogs in the flower field. Just pay a little attention and kill the blossoms the moment they appear, and grab some condition clearing spells just in case.

The only thing you need to do with dogs is to make someone waste their initial leap attack. Then it’s just compress and drop all your skills on them. The husks are a non-threat because they do no damage and the worms you are in no hurry to kill so you may as well use all your elites on the dogs. They should be back in time to spike down the champion vine from 50%.

Thank you for the feedback. I will try it out in a guild run first before doing a pug run and then invite the friend back in and see the success rate.

Necros have a speed buff. #5 skill with a warhorn offhand. Just as good as anyone else’s and has a decently short CD.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….

i play a necro and have no problem running past the dogs or husk even if i was leading the pack.it all comes down to timing the dodge

just slot signet of the locust and spectral walk.after killing the blossoms, walk along the left side and run.when the dogs leap for you just dodge.just keep running towards the husk.when the first one comes at you, dodge again then keep running.this time the 2nd group should come at you then just dodge again

plague form
well of darkness
warhorn OH for aoe cripple/swiftness, or scepter/axe aoe cripple then have someone pop aoe swiftness (ele, guardian, warrior)

drop fear mark behind you, then chillblains
pop shroud, then grasp teleport to a husk. by this point all the dogs should be leashed.

guardians have aoe immobilize on hammer, line of warding if you can time it well.
hell even get thief or mes to pop group stealth for the first bit or if you’re feeling really creative, have him portal the group over.

personally I find it beneficial to kill the trash in case we have to run back for whatever reason.

What’s there to deal with? Pull them all and AoE them down. The only non-boss mobs in TA Explorer that are even remotely dangerous are the ones with the knockdown combo. Everything else melts to AoE and does little damage.

Of course, it should be a given that you’re using builds that actually have conditions/control effects. I for instance, play a condition necromancer, and just about all my AoEs have conditions, be it cripple, weakness, blind, vulnerability, chilled, poison, bleed and fear.

If you’re running a bunch of signet GS warriors, and other such builds that are all glass cannon and no utility, then naturally you’re gonna wipe even on the easy trash packs.

Get toughness on your gear and use utility spec. I see too many people running around with berserker gear and glass cannon damage specs, thinking that they’re doing tons of damage. Reality is, however, that you don’t do any damage when you’re taking a dirt-nap.

As for skipping the dogs at the start, I never bother skipping them, ’cos they melt in ~15 sec anyway.
