There’s apparently a bug with that event. One of my friends also didn’t get their mastery track unlocked even after receiving a kill reward and achievement for that encounter. From what i heard, it has been happening to others as well.
It also seems completely random, as the very same attempt unlocked mastery for others (and in fact can unlock it also for people that just maneged to enter the instance seconds befor the boss kill – you not only don’t need to be alive, but also do not need to tag anything, or even be present until the very last moments before McLeod is killed)
