Vale Guardian fight
The solution is to balance the classes, not make the raids stupidly easy so meta classes can sleep through it.
Anyone can survive for 8 minutes. 8 nomad’s players with 2 druid healers can completely ignore the green circles and just face tank it for 8 minutes. The timer is there for a reason.

You’ve never gotten to the next boss. Guess what? He’s another DPS check and bringing Nomads WILL get you killed because he summons these Enrage Spirits that will increase his damage unless you kill them quickly.
Oh, and he’ll 1 shot you if he consumes any charged spirit. Plus he also has an Enrage timer because… ?
So you have no point. ArenaNet already has a boss that cannot be beaten by overly defensive groups.
So far there is alot of diversity in raids. Obviously you have some profession that seem nearly unavoidable like Viper Engineer, Zerker Herald, PS Warrior, etc. But you also have a lot of room to complete your group. I saw all kind of stuff from Celestial Tank Guardian to Zealot Druids to Venom Share Thief to Support Tempest, etc.
I saw team with 8 dps, 1 tank and 1 zerker support, I saw team with 1 tank and 9 dps with more defense, there is team of mostly condi, other with only 2 of those. Now you want to limit yourself, do what you want, but the timer doesn’t. Plenty of team kill him with 1-2min left on the timer so if you want to play it safe with a bit less dps you can. In pugs this might be a little bit tricker because you don’t synergize everybody together. We probably gonna end up with 5-6 of the build/profession set in stone. The best tank, the best support, the best might/fury source, the best conditions, leaving only place for 2-3 profession more free to choice. But in guild group you can balance the squad how ever you want, the defense, the support, the dps, the cc, etc.
I have no issues running a dps class i do most of the time anyways I just don’t like that raids have started off being for the dps only classes. I mean is arena net not intelligent enough to create survival bosses. This is why I got bored of cof warrior zerker only the game just is no fun spam hundred blades with only one or two classes pulling all the dps. I have yet to be in a group with ranger heals so I can’t say anything about that. I play mostly Elementalist or Guardian both are decent dps until the next nerf.
If you think the Vale Guardian pigeonholes you into DPS gear, you’re in for a rude awakening with Gorseval.
Vale Guardian might as well be majoring in diversity at NYU compared to Gorseval…
The Timer is cheap difficulty..
I am quite disappointed with the raid soo far..
Anet have gone for the same High Hp Timer cop out tactic they seem to love soo much..
this is not what I want to see representing soo called Challenging content..
The Vale Guardian is a kitten wimp overall.. his Ring AoE is the only attack he has that can even dent my main Raid characters Hp..
I want challenging mechanics… powerful bosses… enemies that force me to study them and learn how to deal with them.. not this high HP timer crap again.. im sick of this cheap difficulty being slapped on content instead of actual challenging content

Good God, the raid has been out for 2 days. TWO DAYS PEOPLE! (that exasperated sarcasm, not real capsyelling)
My group got our first kill last night, after about ~6 hours of total practice against him. Let me tell you what, the timer is probably perfect. This is supposed to be endgame content, it’s supposed to require innovation and challenge. Honestly my biggest problem with the Vale Guard is that my group discovered a tactic which made him a little bit too easy.
The timer exists to give you a goal to shoot for. To inspire you to figure out how to dps him down, and to ensure that you optimize everything you do. I fully believe that eventually groups will get him down well enough to just zerk faceroll the guard, but for now, we 100% would have not beaten him without our Druid (yeah, really was convinced I would never say that) and our ~1200 toughness guard. We brought condi, we brought banners, we brought alacrity, and zerkers, a tank, and a healer. But most importantly each and every person needed to do their job, or the group would not have succeeded.
And THIS is why, at the end of the day, the timer is important. Because without it, or if it were extended, my group could probably start selling the first encounter to pugs who afk after a couple more days. You should not be able to sell raids, they are endgame elite content. The timer exists to ensure that all players are pulling their weight, and that nobody (hopefully) can just coast through.
Have some patience, give it a try again. Find a group of people, throw them into free TS or make a guild out of them. And maybe… just maybe… (and I realize this is a novel concept for some people) Have some fun?
