Have any of you ever experienced any runs where it seems like the mob damage jumps from when you ran an instance previously?

I was doing SE P1 today and it’s usually no problem with my guardian. I don’t take a whole lot of damage throughout the run and it gets finished within a reasonable amount of time.
But just ran SE P1 not even 20 minutes with 4 80s and a level 62. Shouldn’t be too much of a hassle right? Right???
Just fighting the elite mobs people were going down and my health was getting cleaved by the conditions and damage. Just only passing the first boss everyone gave up and jumped the ship.

I’m guessing that there’s nothing wrong and it was just a bad run but does this really happen? Like a glitch where dungeon mobs do catastrophic damage?

Well, it shouldn’t take twenty minutes anyways to run SE path 1.
And that’s partially why most people do not fight elite adds, they’re too much of a hassle.

But the damage spike is most likely just bad luck, you stood in the wrong place at the wrong moment, and alot of (when alone not dangerous) attacks hit at once or something.

I think those utilities were more of an issue. A lot of the mobs in SE P1 use ranged attacks, if you had wall of reflection slotted you could’ve migitated most of the damage in the dungeon.

Also, 20 minutes for SE P1 is extremely long. I usually do it below 10 with pugs

Two things happened:

A) You usually had people in your party that pulled the groups weight and carried those that contributed little. This time your party was missing reflects, condition removal, stability and/or damage.

B) Team chemistry was wrong/people had a bad day. Sometimes groups just dont work for various reasons.

Both of these happened at some ratio.

I cant rule out that anet just stealth patched that path to hell because I havent been there since the last patch but its probably not the case.

i got the feeling too some dmg appears out of nowhere now. i used to solo bloomhunger on lower frac levels, but now im dead within a few seconds. in a party with 2 guards. even when im standing inside the reflection wall. same happend in twilight arbor today, usually no problem, but now im feeling like a glass elementalist, as a warrior .. o.O

I’ve noticed some difficulty spike in SE P1 too. Normally I run it with my 80 Guardian, but now that my Warrior is a 65, the dungeon is a lot harder. Maybe it’s because my pugs have lost all their reflects, but I didn’t think I’d be so squishy.

When I switch away from my usual mesmer or guardian in some dungeons the entire group seems to have worse runs. It goes from being able to get smooth pug runs 9/10 times to 1/10 times. This is despite having guardians and mesmers in the party that should be able to do the things that they are supposed to do. (quite often I find that you have to tell people to bring reflects in basic 101 level stuff like CM and SE1). One of the reason why I stopped playing my warrior is I didn’t have as much control on critical skills. I can keep myself up as a warrior just fine, but the party tends to just fall down if I’m not the one doing the reflects/aegis/stability/cleanse, and its much easier to do this as a mesmer or guardian.

I can still get pugs to run well on ele, but lacking the reflect support means that in dungeons that have lots of projectiles there are still problems. As a thief I can get through just fine with blinds and stealth, but once again, there are issues that I can’t help parties through that my mes and guardian just carry parties through.

All this means is that If I’m pugging I need to run mesmer or guardian to get smooth runs. If I’m running with people I know, I try to run my other 3 good classes (I have a necro at 80 but nobody wants me to run that like ever). Even then I’m usually asked to run guard or mesmer because I’m reliable with those and the other players prefer to play with their wars/eles/rangers/theifs.

As for the topic: Mob spikes don’t happen if aegis/protection/area blinds are properly being used. You probably had a group that was failing to apply proper damage mitigation skills due to lack of group orientated skill use. Probably a party of signet wielding/meditation build ect instead of banner buffing virtue using ect players.

I’d bet if you have low DPS and try to kill every mob: doing the gate opening part between the first golem and Nokk can take a while.

1 hour is still horribly slow even if you clear everything. when I first did the dungeon with friends we cleared almost everything and the run still took ~20 minutes.

bear in mind that this was a year ago in some horribly unoptimised comp (2 war 1 ele 1 guard and something else, we didn’t know what FGS could do and only the warriors were in berserker+ruby) and all of us were relatively new to dungeons.
