Waiting for contested dungeon is not fun!
The problem is that most players do exactly the same as they do outside CoF i.e stand there doing nothing/ spamming for a group and not bother helping to defend. Granted Arah is harder to defend and CS isn’t as populated as it was (at least on my server).
I don’t know who thought it would be a good idea to have contested dungeons so you have to do DE’s to open them. If people make groups to do Arah, CoF or CoE they want to get in there and start, not spend 30 minutes outside doing DE’s first. And most of the time these groups are made in LA overflow so the group can’t even be on the same server in order to complete the DE’s. It doesn’t extend the gameplay experience by being forced to do them in order to get in the dungeon, it is just frustrating. It is also the reason the dungeons bug out and stay contested in the first place.
I don’t mind an event to open a gate, but it should be a weekly thing, not every three hours.

i thought the idea sounded “okay” at first but i think it stems from the issue that there arent enough players in the map floating around to do that event which have no interest in the dungeon. at least thats my understanding of how those places would of been kept open when the game was still brand new. not to mention the event to defend these places happens too often, and of course everyone is STILL inside doing the dungeon.
They could always lower the rate at which the waypoint is contested. They increased the waypoint contestion rate for CoF when people were mass farming path 2. I don’t remember if they did the same with Arah when people were shard farming the first boss. With the exodus of people from cursed shore, it would make sense to increase the waypoint contestion time. Anet will never get rid of the contestions though. It’s their way of preventing people from overfarming a dungeon in case any exploits like the 5 minute arah shard farm popped up.
It’s particularly annoying when your party is made up from folks of different servers yet you all can’t join into an overflow or something to collectively unlock a gate…. Pretty sure any of the gate encounters can be 5 manned.
I hate doing the open event for a dungeon just to come out and find its already contested. Kills some groups that wanted to do more.
I suggest the dungeon should stay of for at least 6-12 hours, and if failed to defend, the event to take back the dungeon should restart every 30 minute until taken back.
just stop the stupid event connection to dungeon crap period.
I agree; dungeons should stay open at least 4-6 hours after the event.

I might be the only one in the game but I like how these places are connected to the world outside, I don’t think you should be able to just stroll into the evil dudes base, the DE’s make it feel like you are actually deep in their territory.
I don’t have a farming mindset so I dont know what its like to try and do it super fast every 20minutes though.
For CoF it’s not too much annoying. The chain leading to the last event can be done by a single person and the final one is extremely easy.
For CoE it’s annoying. It takes more time than CoF.
Then we have Arah. The final push takes quite a while, so does the events leading to it. And it’s quite easy to fail…
And sometime it bugs…although I have noticed that now when it bugs (“Pact is at Caer Brier”) it resets after a while and the chain starts over.
And that is why I leave my character at the dungeon door. Stuck there until we are done with Arah, so we can enter it without having to do the whole chain (which is annoying, but not as annoying as when the gate bugs…).
CoF is annoying too, the event restart every 15 min on my server. My group usually clear P1 in 10-15 minutes, and zone out to find that the gate is under attack
There needs to be a better way than to have these blocked the way they are now.
Lets make it so there are two ways to free up a dungeon. Have the standard event chain that will unlock the dungeon for “x” amount of hours and then have a temporary event out in front of the dungeon that is a “Enemy Moral” event where you have to kill so many to unlock it for “x” amount of minutes.
This would also help when some events get bugged out. I think this would help inspire players to actually go down and try to get in because the way the mind set is now its to much of a chore and requires to much time for some players to want to go into some dungeons. I think this would also take care of that problem as well
