I have been trying dungeons (cm) on my warrior. I have decent
yellow and some green gear on. I have focused on toughness
and crit rating.

Problem is I can not seem to play my warrior in a close
combat role in the dungeon environment. The best strategy
I have found is to play like a ranged class using a rifle.
But shouldn’t a warrior excel in melee?

If I get in melee range then I get swarmed by 9 guys and
I am dead in 1-2 seconds. Forget about dodge and evade.
It does not work. The 9 guys follow and I take damage so
fast that in literally 2 seconds I am dead. I can not see
any course of action I can take to allow me to survive as
a melee fighter (?)

So, is a warrior intended to be just a ranged fighter in
slightly better armor? Or are warriors/dungeons just
that broken right now? What am I missing?

if you want to do damage, spec into rifle or longbow.
if you want to support, you can spec into banners or healing shouts (latter is great).

you can melee. sometimes. while switching between range and melee every few seconds. more hassle than it’s worth tho (you WILL get downed more often, so you don’t provide anything to the group during this time, even more so when people ress you).

I’ve honestly found the reverse in many places. A couple well geared warriors using hundred blades on well clumped trash makes the run go MUCH faster.

Yes you have to switch to ranged for many bosses.

Warrior 80 here, I play my warrior on melee. I admit I have a shield and mace and focused on defense, tactics traits but its possible for everyone.

One thing that works (almost all the time) is rotating while attacking. Mobs attack animations are not instant and many times you dodge more attacks that you’d think so.

Avoid at all cost using GS – hundred blades… nothing more deadly than standing still as melee on a dungeon.

Zerk is the average Joe build. Don’t pat yourself in the back too hard.

My experiences with melee in dungeon are only Pre-Update, but honestly, in those runs I’ve done, I found melee MUCH easier than ranged!

With Melee, not only is it easier to see the foe’s movements and anticipate their attacks, but you also have more blocking options.

When I played my Sylvari Engineer and used my Wrench-melee weapon, I found I had a much easier time in dungeons.

Greatsword Warrior is intended as a glass-cannon weapon, and you shouldn’t depend on it for defense in a dungeon. Especially not Hundred Blades! Try making use of weapon swapping to Mace/Shield to daze the foe and block before you start using Hundred Blades.

Seriously, I don’t think melee needs a change. Just the dungeon design philosophy about the 2KO crap…

Maybe if they change the Defiant mechanic of bosses, we might see Warriors take a more close-range approach since most of their close-range options are balanced around Crowd Control and Stun-like conditions in the first place.

I was successfully doing melee before the dungeon “update”. Now it
seems near impossible in many situations.

Every time I go into a dungeon I hope that someone (or two) shows up with a warrior. Correctly spec’ed (not a warrior so not sure what this actually is), they can show up with a greatsword and do both DPS and tanking o.O Always helps the run. This is even post-patch btw.

Game day is 12:00 AM GMT to 11:59 PM GMT. Nothing resets in between those times!
