Welcomed classes in dungeons
Warriors, guardians in Everywhere.
ugh… probably not inaccurate but I didn’t level up so many to just play Warrior and Guardian; and none of mine are zerkers. I’ll just take that as Plan B.
wich 2 war 1 ele 1 guard and 1 mesmer you can do anything
AC ele bow help alot for burrow
CM guardian and mesmer reflect help alot
TA guardian staff make skip less fun but more safest for all and mesmer in p1 for reflect (malrona and last boss)
SE p1 guard stab and reflect, mesmer reflect and p3 guard condition remover and mesmer for reflect
COF any class is ok
HOTW like cof guard will help
COE hammer ele with fiery gs is awesome guard for cond remover and reflect with higt dps party mesmer is a waste for me
ARAH dont have many advice im not so good in arah just mesmer for reflect
ranger is good too but you need to use frost spirit and spotter and ofc play him with sword warhorn
just tell if i have say something wrong

An ele is nice in almost all dungeons if you can use fgs properly and also you can stack might with fire field+blast finisher. Mesmer is good for reflects,tw pulling and intrerupts.
When i do coe i always have an ele and 1 mes rest 3 wa or 2 wa 1 guardian for all paths. AC all paths works kinda the same but better with 1 guardian for the regeneration though i do fine without a guardian.
pls no necro.

Why so much hate for necros :‘( ? I know they don’t bring much, but if you’re just aiming for a good run and not a record breaking speedrun, it works just fine, no ?
I mean if you play a power necro with spoj’s dungeon build, everything is good and well, right?
Thx for the replies; especially your long, detailed one, SoliSnake.
I’ll check out Frost Spirit and Spotter. Hadn’t given them much thought before.
On recent runs of CM 1 and 3, I noticed that Thieves and Mesmers could help avoid large tracts of mobs with Shadow Refuge.
Any other replies to Original Post would be welcome. Thanks!
There are only a few class specific cases i can think of that are like AC icebow cheese -thief for cm p1 springs to mind. There are some skips in arah p2 and one in TA forward that are a lot easier with a thief as well. Generally you’ll want to bring a mesmer in arah to feedback lupi’s big aoe. And lets not forget mesmer portal for COF p1 bolders.

Basically. They are fine in full zerk but. Why? Why take them over any other class?
That’s really it for me and many people who have multiple classes. Why play your weakest card if you don’t have to?
Some may say ‘because it’s fun’ which I could almost agree with in full zerk, but the problem I have with is that a dungeon involves not just you but 4 other people.
When I am in a party of other people, I want to perform my best because I don’t just impact myself anymore, my choices impact others too.
I look forward to the day that Arena Net adds some group utility to the necro that will make it competitive with the other classes in dungeons. This may not happen for a good while considering they pander to the PvPers and have no idea (the poor souls) how to split skills.

Here’s the build you want on ranger: Ranger DPS Build for Dungeons
You want another sword with sigil of the night for night dungeons. And if you ever need to range, take a Longbow

Just trying to get help to pair them up with dungeons where they can shine or at least be welcome
ugh… probably not inaccurate but I didn’t level up so many to just play Warrior and Guardian; and none of mine are zerkers.
Seriously. You were told Zerker is the go-to armor for every class, you have 8 classes and none of them has zerker gear? Talk about being stubborn.
Sorry for being harsh, but you ain’t going to “shine” in any dungeon unless you have zerker gear. If you don’t have DPS in GW2, you are a dead weight and you are getting carried by the other 4 members. As simple as that.

Still would rather a full berserker necro pug over a full clerics/pvt anything else pug.

Content is easy enough that 5 people aren’t needed. So long as the vitals are covered (banners, projectile defense if needed, some manner of stacking might), I personally wouldn’t mind one party member running necro for fun in a casual speed run. Probably wouldn’t add much more then a minute per run. That said on a dungeon tour >10, it could add up, so probably ask them to limit their necro fun play to only a few paths.

How exactly… Is. A Mesmer good (relative to others?) at interrupts?
As far as I know, thieves with an off hand pistol are best for interupts.
On a serious note: all professions are welcome in dungeons :P.

Lyssa’s Grimoire – a guide every Mesmer should read.
Necro is pretty good in TA. But yeah, not worth it over most other classes if you have them all.

Meh im not saying mesm is the best at intrerupts but magic bullet + temporal curtain works fine

Necro’s are pretty good overall. Unless there’s anything to cleave…
Give em ele conjures! Or go rampager and cleave the tree with aoe and condi.

I think mesmer is perfectly fine for CoE. I like them because they can very reliably strip boons from Mark T. Bearce, which means people don’t have to bother losing DPS to the turrets.
To the OP. I highly recommend you look into zerker gear for one of your characters. Make that your designated Dungeon character. If you’re not comfortable with full zerker right off the bat, start with knights armor and then swap pieces out for zerker til you’re used to it. I highly recommend looking at the dungeon meta builds for whichever class you settle on.
If you end up getting bored with that class, start gearing up another class with zerker and read up on the meta build for that class too.
The meta builds have been very thoughtfully laid out to optimize damage and provide necessary support to maximize your teammates as well. Let us know on this thread if there’s one class you want to bring to dungeons and I’m sure people will be happy to provide you with solid dungeon-focused builds.

thats the problem, mark t. is the only part where mesmer is good in coe, all the other boss go down in less then 15 sec w\o tw too i dont say mesmer is bad only i pref other class for coe

Ah. I agree, I prefer bringing my warrior over my mesmer to CoE. See, I read “mesmer is a waste to me” as saying mesmer was bad – probably something lost in the translation. But your clarification helps.
On a side note: All classes are welcome everywhere. . .

You say it like its life or death.
Or perhaps I should have posted this under General Discussions for more casual replies instead of pros telling me I must go zerker. LOL.
Sorry for the misunderstanding. I’ve edited the original post for clarity. My intention is just to join a ‘normal’ (read non-zerker only) group, be able to contribute (by ensuring some important functions or utilities are covered) and see some new content. Nothing so serious as wanting to break any speed records or maximize my gold/min.
@DigitalKirin – thanks for your advice. As above, I may have mis-represented myself here. Currently, I’d just like to see new content having only done AC and CM casually. If I ever want to spend much more time in dungeons, I will do as you’ve suggested.
@SoliSnake & Jeremlloyd – Thanks for sharing your Ranger builds. Have started testing the builds provided. Using Soldier armor and gear though…

You see people are trying to help you with this area, because the dodge mechanic is quite broken in this game most/any boss can be fought in all berserker gear because without vigor you can still dodge once every 10 seconds (excluding the first 2 dodges you have), and once every five seconds with vigor, a dodge gives you about 3/4s invulnerability meaning that if you have perma vigor you can be invulnerable 15% of the time just with your dodges, this allows you (once you have a good knowledge of the boss and how and when to dodge certain attacks) to kill bosses more quickly while still staying safe by dodging the hardest hitting of the boss’s skills. of course as you are new to dungeons its probably best to start off with a little bit tankier gear until you learn the boss mechanics, and phase out the tankier gear as you begin to feel more comfortable.
my 2 cents
Karl Marx: “Go away! Last words are for fools who haven’t said enough!”
Get the berserker gear, even in dungeon runs with pugs, the damage you will deal out will surpass anything else and make for a much more enjoyable dungeon experience. Otherwise, said dungeons will seem “broken” and hard.
And yes, if you are the only zerker in the pug none zerker group and you die, say halfway through a battle, you would have probably contributed more to the boss dying than the rest of the group that stays alive for 5 more minutes.
Any class is great in any dungeon so long as they are experienced with their class and know about the dungeon, I ran Arah path 4 with 4 necro and 1 warrior – I was scared yea but it was a breeze since all except me knew what to do- and they were extremely patient, couldn’tve asked for a better group.

Ah, if you’re doing a casual run, make sure when you post a dungeon LFG that you specifically state that it’s a casual run, or if you join a party, make sure they say “casual” or “anyone welcome”. It will save you heartache in the future because other types of runs tend to want people using more of the mainstream builds.
No necros or bearbows or thieves who dont know how to dodge. Anyone who isnt running zerker needs to go ahead and buy some zerker gear. Besides that you shouldnt have a problem getting into a dungeon. Also know the paths before you go in(Use youtube)

When you are looking for lfg.. stay clear from anything that states: experienced, speed, or quick. More than likely you would get kicked and those are for the full zerker gear peeps who would expect you to know the path already.
If you tell people in advance that you are new to the path/dungeon, most are likely to be give you instructions on how to clear the dungeon. There’s mechanics and things that you would need to know and it’s easier if the party knows ahead of time. Just listen to the instructions or read up on some guides beforehand. Some may just kick you but don’t take it personally, just keep looking for a group that is willing to teach someone who is new and be patient with you.
You do not need a full zerker gear if you are just exploring the dungeon in the beginning. It’s something to invest in if you decide to keep at it. I started with knights armor and switched over to zerker when I realized that I was going to spend majority of my time in dungeon/fractal as my endgame content. But I would also avoid the clerics, support, tank build because DPS does matter in dungeon. The quicker you kill the boss, the less chance the group has of wiping. And yes it does take longer to kill the boss if you are not zerked out- this is true. So be prepared to spend more time in the dungeon if you decide not to go the zerker route.
Joining a small to medium size guild might be helpful. That’s how I started dungeoneering in GW2. Some of my guildies took me to AC path 3 when I was only level 50 or so on my first toon and 3 weeks into the game. Being on a voip also helps. It made it fun for me which helped me in the long run to keep plugging at it. Had I used the lfg for my first dungeon experience, that might not have been the case.
Best of luck on your dungeon adventure. There are a lot of good people out there who are willing to guide and instruct you if you are willing to listen and put in the effort. It can also be a disaster at times but just learn to shrug/laugh it off.
As for what utilities to use on each dungeon will depend on class and you will learn that in time. I would check out some of the guides that some of the pros have linked here and go over them. Since you have multiple professions in your kitten nal, I will say that it is easier to pug in certain classes more than others which previous posters have mentioned.
Necro has the best AoE shenanigans out of all the classes.
The problem is most people on here are too stupid to understand what AoE even means.
Just read through this thread and you’ll see what I mean.
Ching chang shenanigan?
And no, they don’t.
Best AoE condition wise. It is not even up for debate.
Too bad zerkers don’t notice AoE weakness.
“Revenant is actual proof that devs read the necromancer forum” – Pelopidas.2140
Some of us do but an elementalist is better for that job.
Necros suck.
/thread.
But seriously, you’ll get by on any class if you just give it berserker gear and are able to play with it. If you really can’t play with berserker gear, go knights armor and zerk trinkets. If you can’t do that either, go full knights. If you can’t do that, pay someone to do dungeons for you. If you can’t do that, post here saying that you bet zerk elitists wipe 24/7 and only talk big on the forums, and hope that some of them take you on runs to prove you wrong.

and why would we take some puny damage mitigation we dont even need over a player who kills a lot faster?
faster kill, faster run. It is not even up for debate.

Weakness was very nice for high level fractals but since the cap was lowered and scaling reduced it became less wanted. But even if weakness was vastly needed, an elementalist is much better at its application while dealing much more damage and having much more utility.
One of plenty reasons why i love gazing into the sun.
Hmm…I didn’t see engineers specifically mentioned. Would a zerk nades build, doing decent DPS while spamming stacks upon stacks of vulnerability (basically +DPS for the entire group), be welcome in today’s dungeon runs?
